John Fitzgerald Edman, 57, of Sumerco, WV, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, October 20, 2022, peacefully at home.

John was employed by Aqua Glass and Wal-Mart. He was a U.S. Army Veteran.

He is survived by his parents, Jerry and Sharon Louise (Holstein) Wentz, brother, Edward Wayne Wentz (Jordan), sister, Sheila (Ray) Lollar, and nieces and nephews, Nicholas Wentz, Elise Wentz, and Hunter O’Connor, Jennifer Lollar and a great-nephew Avery Lollar.

Service will be 12:00 noon Thursday, October 27, 2022, at Curry Funeral Home with Pastor Jackie Miller officiating. Military rites will be 2:00pm at the Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, 130 Academy Dr., Dunbar, WV 25064. Friends will gather 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Dewey Wayne Jones, 80, of Yawkey went home to be with the Lord Saturday, October 22, 2022, at CAMC Memorial Hospital.

Dewey was a member of Yawkey Missionary Baptist Church. He retired from the Stamping Plant. His ’36 Chevy was his pride and joy.

He was a devoted husband, proud father, & adored his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Agnes Schulte Jones; son, Floyd Jones.

Dewey is survived by his wife, Ruth Griffith Jones; daughters, Debbie (Terry) Snyder & Wanda (Randy) Clark; sons, Dewey Wayne Jones, Jr. & Charles Jones; granddaughters, Crystal (Joe) Cummings, Kalea Thompson, Amy Snyder, Ashley (Jon) Garcia; great grandchildren, Josie (Tyler O’Bryan) Cummings, Kameryn Guthrie, Peyton Bell, Bella Snyder, Emersyn, Carter & Alea Garcia; he was very excited for his great great grandchild on the way, Jaxon; brothers, Sam & Jimmie Rogers; sisters, Pat Zimm & Virginia Terry.

Service will be 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at Curry Funeral Home with Pastor Darrell Searls officiating. Friends will gather 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Carolyn Brogan Allen Perdue, 69, of Yawkey, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 23, 2022, after a long illness.

She was born on July 29, 1953, to Dewell David Brogan and Margaret Flint Brogan Stephens. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Jimmy David (Linda) Brogan. Carolyn loved her niece, Jessica Brogan Pauley (Matt) as her daughter. She was a very special Nana to Madison Pauley (Coy) and Mackenzie Pauley.

She is survived by her husband, “Bobby” Perdue and three stepchildren, Whitney, Garrett and Morgan Perdue. Carolyn cherished all her family and friends so deeply.

Carolyn was truly one-in-a-million that had a burning passion for life. Carolyn was loved by all who knew her and made friends everywhere she went. She lived her life in the service of others. She attended McCorkle Free Will Baptist Church and no matter how much suffering she went through, she never gave up.

Carolyn was renowned for her cooking and touched so many lives throughout the years. She worked for Bert Wolfe 36 years and loved their family as her own.

Carolyn and Dink Allen spent over 20 years together but their journey ended as a married couple and they remained friends.

It is with great sadness that the family wants to remember our Nana that asked for so little but gave so much. Our hearts are broken but we know that she is rejoicing in Heaven with a brand new body.

Service will be 12:00 noon Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at McCorkle Free Will Baptist Church, 175 McCorkle Road, Sod, WV, with Pastor Isaiah Hatfield officiating and Travis Long giving the eulogy. Burial will follow at Lively Cemetery, Sod. Friends and family will gather one hour prior to the service at the church.

Betty Jean Price, 92, of South Charleston went home to be with the Lord Thursday, October 20, 2022, at Thomas Memorial Hospital.

Betty retired from the Treasury Department with the State of WV. She was a member of Davis Creek Church of the Nazarene where she volunteered with many women’s groups. She also loved to shop.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Edward Price; parents, Dempsey and Jean Rogers Turley; brother, Jack Turley.

She is survived by her son, Jack (Carolyn) Edward Price, II; grandchildren, Jennifer Schoppert, Blake Price; great grandchildren, Lillie Schoppert, Connor Schoppert; half-brothers, Danny Turley, Paul Turley, Steven Turley, Gary Turley.

Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, October 24, 2022, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Gene Pauley officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston. Friends will gather 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Roston Woodrow “Woody” Hunter II, 50, passed away Saturday, October 15, 2022, at home. He is preceded in death by his parents, Roston Hunter and Edith Backus, and brother, Samuel Hunter.

Woody was a former electrician in the coal mines. He loved coaching sports and mentoring the players.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Danielle, children, Shawntel Hunter and Chloe (Josh) Workman, grandson, Remington Colt Workman, sisters, Becky (Johnny) Bias and DD Farmer, brother, Chester Hunter and many other family and friends.

Graveside service will be 1:00pm Saturday, October 22, 2022, at the Family Memorial Gardens, Low Gap, with Pastor John Workman officiating.

Claude Max Bare, 87, of Charleston, WV passed away Saturday, October 15, 2022, at CAMC – Hospice. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bess Bare, and his twin infant sister, Claudette.

He was retired from Union Carbide with over 30 years of service and was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War.

Claude is survived by his sons, Roger, Jeffrey (Tracy), and Duane (Tonia), and his siblings, Jean Shaver, William Bare and Richard Bare. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jared and Megan and great-granddaughter, Lily.

Service will be 1:00pm Friday, October 21, 2022, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Daniel Dent and eulogy by his son, Roger. Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery, Charleston, WV.

Robert Allen “Bobby” Means, 76, of Tango, WV, went to be with the Lord Monday, October 3, 2022, at home. He was preceded in death by his parents, W.T. and Louise Hill Means; grandson, Jacob Allen Neal Craddock; 6 brothers and 2 sisters.

He was a former member of Joe’s Creek Baptist Church, a Christian for 47 years and retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam war receiving the Purple Heart Medal.

Bobby is survived by his wife, Betty of 49 3/4 years; children, Misty Means (Jimmy) Hinton and Mark Wilson; grandchildren, Tyler (Kaila) Wilson, Caleb (Destiny) Craddock, Whitney (JC) Morrison, Isaac Craddock, Noah Craddock, and Caitlan (Mike) Kearns. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Lily Wilson, Jayce Morrison, Paislee Wilson, Rockson Morrison, Madelyn Graley, Hadlee Wilson, and Leila Craddock; brothers, Harlan (Jeanette) Means and Ronald Means; sisters, Martha Mathes and Delphia Cole.

Service will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 7, 2022, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Jimmy Lawrence officiating. Military rites will follow by Hamlin American Legion Post 111. Burial will be at Means-Webb Cemetery at Tango. Friends will gather from 6-8 p.m., Thursday evening at the funeral home.

Jack G. Stockman, 90, of Pinetops, North Carolina, formerly of Gassaway, WV, went to be with the Lord Sunday, October 2, 2022, at the home of his son, John Stockman (Heather Gibbs).

He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Dolores Stockman, daughter, Pamela Stockman, and great-granddaughter, Bethany Jean Rundgren, brothers, Rex and Bob Stockman, and Don Duggan, and sister Billy Stockman.

Jack was an ironworker and jack of all trades. He was a Christian.

Jack is survived by his daughters, Kathy (Melvin) Griffith and Gwendolyn Stockman, son, John Stockman (Heather Gibbs), grandchildren, Jason Young, Regina Young, Brent (Brittany) Griffith, Marty Griffith, Jack Tulley, Brandon Lamar, Bruce and Jesse McCallister, Terry Simmons, Jackie and Jade Stockman, and Travis Stockman. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Draven, Darrah and Jarred Young, Beckett, Brinley, and Bailey and Kanden Griffith, Ava McCallister, Liam Simmons, Gage Simmons, Amarie Williams, Farnie Williams, Gabriel Grounds, Annabella Grounds, and Journey Grounds, half-brothers, Case Duggan (Jeanie), and Aarron Blaine Stockman.

Graveside service will be 1:00pm Friday, October 7, 2022, at Jacob Shaver’s Memorial Cemetery on Sunrise Road off Exchange Road, Sutton, WV, with Pastor Isaiah Hatfield officiating.

Chester Wayne “Chuck” Cyrus, 73, of Griffithsville, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 1st, 2022, surrounded by his family. He was born on February 8th, 1949, to Charles “Boose” and Elva “Eke” Cyrus of St. Albans, West Virginia. Chuck had five siblings; Charles, Sharon, Eugene “Gener”, Rodger, and Randy Cyrus.

Chuck served in the United States Marine Corps from 1968 to 1974. He was an Engineer Equipment Mechanic and served as a Combat Aircrew member in the Vietnam War until 1973. Throughout his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, the Rifle Expert Badge, the Viet Nam Service Medal, the Viet Nam Campaign Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal and the Combat Aircrew Insignia. Following his service to his country, Chuck spent several years as a coal miner and worked for the United States Postal Service until retirement.

Chuck married the love of his life, Janet Rose Cash, in 1970. The two of them raised their sons, Chester Wayne “Chucky” Cyrus and Brian Anthony Cyrus in Griffithsville, West Virginia. Chuck was a devoted grandfather to 9 grandchildren. He was an avid outdoorsman. He spent countless days in the mountains, hunting and fishing, with family and friends. In his last months, Chuck was able to revisit his favorite hunting spots in the mountains and fulfill his lifelong dream of seeing Yellowstone National Park.

Chuck is preceded in death by his parents Charles Raymond and Elva Ethel (Adkins) Cyrus; brothers Rodger Dean Cyrus, Charles Ray Cyrus, and Davie Eugene Cyrus. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Janet Rose Cyrus; sons Chester Wayne “Chucky” Cyrus of Grifftithsville and Brian Anthony (Emily) Cyrus of Sod; siblings Randy Lee Cyrus of Tornado and Sharon Lynn (Jon) Loftis of Scott Depot; grandchildren Ashley Nichole Cyrus, Andrew Trenton Cyrus, Alayna Rose Cyrus, Aliyah Nicole Cyrus, Brian Joseph Cyrus, Aidan Wayne Cyrus, Anthony Wayne Cyrus, Josie Rose Cyrus, and Adeley Bo Cyrus. He also leaves behind a host of family and friends to cherish his memory. Chuck faithfully lived his life for his family, friends, God and country.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, October 15, 2022, at Griffith Cemetery on Parsons Ridge/Browns Creek, St. Albans with Pastor Richard Ruby, Pastor Richard McCallister, and Reverend Ford officiating. The family will also be honoring the lives of Chuck’s brothers, Charles Ray Cyrus and Rodger Dean Cyrus, at this time.

Brian K. “Catfish” McCallister, 49, of Griffithsville passed away Friday, September 30, 2022, at home of longtime health problems.

Brian was a disabled coal miner. He loved to fish and hunt. He loved his two sons and family dearly and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his sons, Devon McCallister of Griffithsville, Jerry McCallister of Beckley; father, Bill (Linda) McCallister; mother, Anna Mae (Steve) Thaxton; brothers, Billy Jr. (Melinda) McCallister of Nitro, Chris (Ronna) McCallister of Griffithsville; niece, Alli McCallister; nephew, Trip McCallister; two great nieces and one great nephew.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 6, 2022, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Kim Matthews officiating. Burial will follow at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey. Friends may gather one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
