Walter DeWayne Harmon, 50 of Flushing, New York, died January 25, 2003.

He was a truck driver at OH Trucking at Kennedy Airport, New York.

He is survived by his: Mother and Step-Father: Norva “Peggy” and Ivan Murphy of Charleston; Brother: William Edward Murphy; Girlfriend: Laura Paceione.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, is in care of arrangements.

Kenneth “Darrell” Holstein, 64 of Hurricane, formerly of Marlington, died Thursday, January 16, 2003 at the V.A. Medical Center, Huntington after a long illness.
He was an employee of W. W. Heating in Hurricane and had formerly owned and operated Ken’s Heating in Pocahontas County. He was preceded in death by his son, Kenny Dale Holstein.

He is survived by his: Wife: Annette; 3 Daughters: Jane and Linda of Rhode Island; Robin Compton of Marlington; 4 Sons: Kenny, Jeff and Steve of Rhode Island; David Stover of Hurricane; Mother: Clara Whiting of Chazleston; 2 Sisters: Janet Corns and Iris Stricker; 4 Brothers: Leslie and Doug Holstein; Roger and John Whiting; 7 Grandchildren; 3 Great-grandchildren. Megan, Tyler and Brandon.

Services will be 4:00 PM on Monday, January 20, 2003 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Mike Kordusky officiating. Burial will be in Forks of Coal Memorial Park at Alum Creek. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations to the Alzheimer’s Association,1200 Quarrier Street, Charleston, West Virginia 25301.

Macil E. Woodrum

Macil E. Woodrum, 90 of Alkol, died Wednesday, January 15, 2003 in Sunbridge of Dunbar after a long illness.

She was a cook for Kanawha County Schools, a member of Sycamore Grove Baptist Church, Alkol and was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie D. Woodrum and daughter, Brenda Carter.

She is survived by her: 3 Sons: Billy R. Woodrum of Tornado, WV; Larry and Keith Woodrum both of Cincinnati, OH; Sister: Helen Donnie of Phoenix, AL; Brother: Romie McDowell of Alabama; 4 Half-sisters: Emojean Robertson of Scott Depot, WV; Eujean Lawhorn &Dorothy Mallory both of St. Albans, WV; Neil Ruth Bassitt of Hamilton, OH; 9 Grandchildren; 14 Great Grandchildren.

Service will be 2:00 PM Friday, January 17, 2003 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Darrell Searls officiating. Burial will be in McDowell Cemetery, Garretts Bend. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Alma Faye McCallister

Alma Faye McCallister, 91 of Sumerco, went home to be with the Lord, January 10, 2003 at home after long illness.

She was a homemaker and proprietor of McCallister’s General Store at Sumerco for 15 years and a member of the Sumerco Church of God.

She is survived by: 4 Sons and Spouses: James and Ella McCallister of South Chazleston, VW; Cleo and Artie McCallister of Sumerco, VW; Eugene and Margie McCallister of Arab, Alabama; Richazd and Mary McCallister of Yawkey, WV; 4 Daughters and Spouses: Mildred and Dennis Clark of Dexter, Michigan; Juanita Porter of Sumerco, WV; Hilda and Larry Griffith of Yawkey, W V; Dottie and John Vance of Hamlin, WV; 1 Sister: Hattie Bradshaw of Belpre, OH; 26 Grandchildren; 41 Great Grandchildren; 21 Great Great Grandchildren.

Services will be 11:00 AM, Monday, January 13, 2003 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Butch Loftis and Pastor Oshel Bell officiating. Burial will be in Midkiff Cemetery, Sumerco. Friends may call from 5 to 7 PM Sunday at the funeral home.

Roy Denver Neal

Roy Denver Neal, 71, of St. Albans formerly of Sod, died Wednesday, January 8, 2003 at Thomas Memorial Hospital after a short illness.

He was a member of Midway Church of Christ, Hurricane.

He is survived by: 2 Sisters: Helen McKenzie of St. Albans with whom he had made his home for over 2 years. Alma Wade of St. Albans; Brother: Virgil Smith of Sod

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alonzo and Rosie Neal; sister, Ruth Neal Goode, and brothers, Harold and Carl Neal.

Also surviving are several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews; many friends and relatives.

Service will be 2:00 PM Sunday, January 12, 2003 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Ministers Don Mash, Gerald Watts and Richard Runyan officiating. Burial will be in Watts Family Cemetery, Sod. Friends may call from 4 to 7 PM Saturday, January 11, 2003 at the funeral home.

C. R. “Bob” Peterson

C. R. “Bob” Peterson, 80 of Charleston, died Wednesday, January 8, 2003 at Putnam General Hospital, Hurricane after a long illness.

Bob was the owner and operator of Bob’s Fas-Chek for 32 years and was the owner and operator of the Yawkey Foodland. He served in the Navy/Air Corps during WWII and was a member of the Garfield Lodge #559 A.F. and A. M. in DuBois, Pennsylvania. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his: Wife: Jean; 3 Sons: Robert Peterson of Yawkey; Rick Peterson of Charleston; Randall Peterson, MD of Scott Depot; 1 Brother: Russell Peterson of Ghent; 7 Grandchildren.

Services will be held at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, on Saturday, January 11, 2003 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Entombment with Masonic graveside rites conducted by the Griffithsville Masonic Lodge #71 will be held in Graceland Memorial Park Mausoleum, South Charleston. Hilery Green Gibson, 55 of St. Albans, was dead on arrival at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston, on Monday, January 6, 2003 after an apparent heart attack.

He was a self-employed carpet installer. He is survived by his: Son: Chris Gibson of St. Albans, WV; Daughters: Anita Wileman ;of St. Albans, WV; Michelle Meyer of Battle Creek, MI; Brother: Bobby Joe Gibson of Hillsboro, TX; 8 Grandchildren.

Carl Eugene Thomas

He was retired from ARCO Steel, a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Tornado and was a W WII veteran. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Mae Miller Thomas.

He is survived by: Son: Paul Thomas; Step-Son: Carrie Mooney; Sister: Virginia Thomas Ennis of St Albans; 7 Grandchildren; 12 Great Grandchildren.

Services will be 2:00 PM on Tuesday, January 7, 2003 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor James Poe officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Tornado. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Tuesday.

Arietta Tyree Arnett

Arietta Tyree Arnett of St. Albans, passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2003 at CAMC Memorial Division after a short illness.

She was a faithful, loving mother of three children, three grandchildren and one great grandchild. Arietta was a long-time dedicated and active member of Highlawn Baptist Church which she dearly loved. She also was a retired cook at Belvil Elementary.

She was preceded in death by her oldest child, Linda.

She is survived by her: Husband: Ralph; 2 Sons: Al of South Carolina; Denny of St Albans; Grandchildren: Jon, Mark and Davin Arnett; Great Grandchild: Alexis; Sister: Doris Watson of White Sulphur Springs; Brother: Clayton Tyree of Lewisburg.

Services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 7, 2003 at Highlawn Baptist Church, St. Albans with Pastor Dr. Joe Hyde officiating. Burial will be in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Friends may call from 7 to 9 PM Monday at the church. In lieu of flowers family request donations be made to Highlawn Baptist Church Building Fund, 2304 Jefferson Avenue, St. Albans, W V 25177. Charles Roosevelt McCallister, 69 of Paris, Illinois, formerly of McCorkle, departed this life on Friday, January 3, 2003 after a long illness.

He was an auto mechanic and an Air Force veteran.

He is survived by his five sons, Charles Jr. of Nitro; Paul W. and Robert R. of Sod; Kerry D. of Yawkey; and Paul of San Jose, CA; six daughters, Lynn Holstein of Alum Creek; Sandra Bakke of Pflugerville, TX; Sarah F. Breedlove of Yawkey; Amy McCallister of Champagne, IL; Amanda McCallister and Alisa McCallister of Paris, II,; three brothers, Pat McCallister of Chazleston; Bub McCallister of Akron, OH; Bill McCallister of Kingman, IN; two sisters, Ruth McCormick of Danville; Pauline Clazk of McCorkle; 20 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, on Wednesday, January 8, 2003 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Gene Pauley officiating. Burial will be held in Forks of Coal Memorial Park, Alum Creek. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
