John Mark Parsons, 79, of St Albans, formerly of Olcott, died Saturday, May 24, 2003 at home after a long illness.

He was born at Olcott and was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey E. Williams Parsons and nine siblings. He was a retired pipe fitter and a member of the Plumbers-Pipe fitters Local 625. He was a WWII Army veteran and a Christian.

He is survived by a daughter: Audrey J. Parsons of NC; Grandsons: Jeremy B. Parsons and Jonathan R. Cobb both of KY; Several nieces and nephews; Special Garegivers: Carl and Sandi Parsons, Alfred Newman and Hospice of Kanawha Co.

Services will be 2:00 PM on Tuesday at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Rev. James McCallister officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston. Friends may call from 7 to 9 PM on Monday at the funeral home.

Elsie E. Slack

Elsie E. Slack, 83, of Alum Creek, died Monday, May 19, 2003 at the home of her daughter, Mary Holstein.

She is also survived by her other daughter, Carol Holstein; 10 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and one great great grandson.

Services will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2003 at 2:00 PM at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Rev. Larry Ross officiating. Burial will beheld in Marmet Cemetery, Marmet. Friends may call on Tuesday from 6 to 9 PM at the funeral home.

Nettie “Duckie” Hughes, 72, formerly of Peytona, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, May 13, 2003 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Gloria Jean and Roger Pauley of Myra, with whom she resided.

She was a homemaker and a born-again Christian.

She is also survived by: 3 Sons and daughter-in-laws: Michael and Mollie Hughes of Peytona; George and Shazon Hughes of Peytona; Danny and Teresa Hughes of Alum Creek; 2 Additional daughters and son-in-laws: Freeda and Leroy Crockett of Ripley; Dessie and Thurman Lovejoy of Woodville; 14 Grandchildren; 14 Great Grandchildren.

Service will be 11:00 AM Friday, May 16, 2003 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Dwight McClure and Pastor Danny Hughes officiating. Burial will be in Hughes Family Cemetery, Ely. Friends may call from 6 to 9 PM Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to Kanawha Hospice, 1143 Dunbar Avenue, Dunbar, W V 25064.

Stella Francis Sanford

Stella Francis Sanford, 95, of Elkview, formerly of South Charleston, died Monday, May 13, 2003 at the home of her niece, Arlene.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford; daughter, Sandra Linville; and son, Lloyd Sanford.

Stella was a retired cook from the Kanawha County Board of Education and a member of the Davis Creek Church of the Nazarene, where she taught Sunday school for 25 years.

She is survived by her: Loving niece and caregiver: Arlene and her husband, H. D. Sams of Elkview; 6 Grandchildren; 11 Great Grandchildren;

Services will be held at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, on Friday, May 16, 2003 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Merlin Provance officiating. Burial will be held in Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston. Emory Hughie Graley

Emory Hughie Graley, 84, of Winfield, died Sunday, May 11, 2003 at Teays Valley Center after a long illness.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ezra and Sadie Alshire Graley; wife of 62 years, Helen Margaret Richard Graley; son, Carles H. Graley; grandson, Hank Graley; granddaughter, Missy Foster; brothers, Emmitt, Earl, and Everette.

He was a retired self-employed contractor, an avid baseball player, and enjoyed camping and fishing.

Charles Graley and wife, Shirley of St. Albans; Emory Graley, Jr. of Alum Creek; Daughters: Midge Ball and husband, Sonny of Winfield; Doris Moore and husband, Leon of Winfield; Becky Foster and husband, Jerry of Winfield; Brothers: Rev. Ezra Graley, Jr. of St. Albans; Bill Graley of St. Albans; Sisters: Delcie Snodgrass of St. Albans; Grace Rabel of Alum Creek; Jenny Brown of St. Albans; Phyllis Kinzer of Tampa, FL; 13 Grandchildren; 8 Great Grandchildren; 5 Great Great Grandchildren; many loving nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, on Wednesday, May 14, 2003 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Ezra Graley, Jr. and Rev. Danny Kinder officiating. Burial will be held in Midkiff Cemetery, Sumerco. Friends may call from 7 to 9 PM on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Olive V. Smith

Olive V. Smith, 75, of Sumerco, died May 9, 2003 after a short illness.

She was a homemaker and a Navy Veteran of WWII.

There will be no services. Burial will be in Barker Cemetery, Ashford. Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek is in charge of arrangements.

Keith W. Hall

Keith W. Hall, 66, of St. Albans, died Thursday, May 8, 2003 at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston, of an apparent heart attack.
Keith was preceded in death by his father, Clifford W. Hall.

He was a member of the Highlawn Baptist Church of St. Albans. He worked at CVS as a pharmacist and was semi-retired. Keith graduated from South Charleston High School and West Virginia University. Keith was a gentle, loving and kind man; everyone loved Keith for his Christian virtues. One of his greatest joys was helping others. He loved studying history, his WVU Mountaineers and spending time with his family and friends.

Keith is survived by his: Wife: Bette Thornton Hall; Mother: Virginia Hall of Teays Valley; Sons: David Keith Hall of New Orleans; Dean Kinder of St. Albans; Daughters: Marilyn Hall of St. Albans; Susan Treen and husband, Tim of Alum Creek; Stephanie Hensley and husband, James of Nitro; Brothers: Larry Hall of Houston, TX; Paul Hal] and wife, Carolyn of Scott Depot; Grandchildren: Brandon Keith Treen, Brittany Treen, Ashley Hensley, Autumn Hensley, Sean Kinder and Marisa Kinder; Uncle and Aunt: Harold and Fern Swisher Several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2:00 PM, Sunday, May 11, 2003 at Highlawn Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Joe Hyde, Pastor and Rev. Allen Stewart officiating. Burial will be at Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Morton “Pal” A. Griffith, Jr., 75, of Scott Depot, formerly of Sod, passed away Thursday, May 8, 2003 at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston, after an extended illness.

He was preceded in death by his son, Dana Griffith.

He leaves behind one daughter, Jo Ellen of Boback, PA; one grandson, Tyson Paugh of Barboursville; several nieces and nephews and many good friends.

There will be no services. Cremation is planned and burial will follow in Lively Cemetery, Sod as requested by Morton. In lieu of flowers, donations in Morton’s memory are requested to Hubbard Hospice House, 1001 Kennawa Drive, Charleston, W V 25311. Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, is in care of arrangements.

Daniel P. Estep

Daniel P. Estep, 71 of Yawkey, died Sunday, May 4, 2003 after a long illness.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sylvia.

He was retired from Chemical Leamon Truck Lines, a member of Teamsters Local 175, a member of the Griffithsville Church of Christ and an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by his: Wife: Jean; 1 Son: Donnie Estep of Teays Valley; 1 Step-Son: David Brumfield of Yawkey; 1 Step-Daughter: Libby Summers of Beckley; 1 Brother: Omer Estep of Alum Creek; 6 Grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey on Tuesday, May 6, 2003 at 11:00 AM with Minister Tom Racer officiating. There will not be a visitation. Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, is in charge of the arrangements.

Harry H. Humphrey

Harry H. Humphrey, 79, of Yawkey, born November 11, 1923, departed this life May 1, 2003 at Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation Center, Dunbar.

He retired from Pennzoil Company with 35 years of service. He was a member of Teamsters Local #175 and a member of Amy Baptist Church, Yawkey.

He is survived by: Wife: Norma Kingrey Humphrey; Nieces and nephews and friends.

Service will be 2:00 PM Sunday, May 4, 2003 at Curry Funeral Home, of Alum Creek with Rev. Don Toler and Pastor Forrest Curry officiating. Burial will be in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey. Friends may call Saturday from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home.
