Gene Kelly Chandler, 60, of Alum Creek died at home after a short illness.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise.

Gene was a member of the Praise Assembly of God, Alum Creek, and was a retired mechanic from the West Virginia Department of Highways.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Tonya and William Osborne of Midway; sister and their spouses, Shirley Williams of Alum Creek, Sandra and Bernard Harper of Alum Creek, Charlotte and Leonard Gallegos of Farmington, New Mexico; brother and wife, Johnny and Debbie Chandler of Alum Creek; grandchildren, Kelly Lee Chandler, Tiffany and Robert Osborne.

Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, December 22, 2005 at the Praise Assembly of God, Alum Creek, with Pastors, Dan and Danny McCormick officiating. Burial will be held in Chandler Family Cemetery, Alum Creek. Friends may call on Wednesday from 7 to 9 PM at the church.
Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, is in care of arrangements.

Ethel Irene Pauley

Ethel Irene Pauley, 91, of Davis Creek, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 18, 2005 at CAMC Memorial Division.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernie; son, Leon; daughters, Janice and Nancy; and her parents, Luther and Verna Goins.

She was a Christian, a member of David Creek Church of the Nazarene and she lived on Davis Creek most of her life where she and Ernie raised seven children.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Chazles and Mildred Pauley of South Charleston, Sharon and Bob Mann of North Carolina, Pat and Frank Sisson of Alum Creek, Margo Ginn of Charleston; sisters, Elsie Lore of Florida, Ruby Higginbotham of Teays Valley; brother Freddie Goins of South Charleston; 19 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and 15 great great grandchildren.

She lived with her granddaughter, Brenda Parsons, who gave her excellent loving care.

Services will be held 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 21, 2005 with Pastor Tommy Roberts officiating. Burial will beheld in Pauley Family Cemetery, South Charleston. Friends may call on Tuesday from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home.

Radith L. “Shorty” Bell

Radith L. “Shorty” Bell, 72, of South Charleston died Tuesday, December 13, 2006 at CAMC Memorial Division after a long illness.

He is retired from AT&T/Lucent with 37 years service; attended Hopewell Baptist Church. Shorty was the youngest of 9 children born to Antonio & Belva Brown Bell.

He was also preceded in death by brothers: J.E., Freeman and Sanford “Sachet” Bell. He is survived by his wife: Betty Gail; Daughter: Penny Lee Brown & husband, Donald of Peterstown, WV; Son: Gregory Kurt Bell and wife, Joy of South Charleston, WV; Sisters & Brothers: Phyllis Harrison of Dunbar Rondal Bell & wife, Jean of Alum Creek; Kenneth “Kenny” Bell  &wife, Marcie of Charleston; Eloise Dunlap of Alum Creek; Dennie Bell & wife, Denise of Alum Creek; Sisters-in-law: Faye Bell of Ripley; Marie Bell of Alum Creek; 3 Grandchildren: Leetha, Daniel, & Aaron; Step-Granddaughter: Nicci Dan & son, Jacob; Special Great Grandson: Radith Blake; Best buddy: P. J. Midkiff; Special Angel: Cheryl.

Service will be 1:00 PM Saturday, December 17, 2006 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Dwight McClure officiating. Burial will be in Tyler Mountain Memory Gazdens, Cross Lanes, WV. Friends may call Friday from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

 

 

Nannie Toney Hannah

Nannie Toney Hannah, 80, of Matheny, WV formerly of St. Albans went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, December 13, 2005 at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley.

Nannie was an associate member of the WV State Gospel Singing Association at Mt. Nebo. She was a member of the United Methodist Church at Matheny, WV and formerly attended Grace Baptist Temple in St. Albans. She loved singing in the choirs.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Roger W. Toney.

She is survived by her husband: Ralph M. Hanna; 3 daughters: Shirley Adkins of Cross Lane;s Johnna Toney Black & husband, Alan of Charleston; Diane Gordon &husband, Mark of Wooster, OH; 1 son: Ralph E. Hannah &wife, Sharon of Matheny; 1 brother: Russell Meadows of Weirton; 1 sister: Jo Ann Midkiff of Yawkey; 7 grandchildren: Bryce Adkins & wife, Wendy; Kim &Jeremy Adkins; Mason Hannah & wife, Jennifer; Kelly Walls &husband, Patrick; Mark Gordon &wife, Carrie; and Sazah Gordon.  5 Great Grandchildren: Kelsey, Kasey, Tanner, Autumn, & Lauren;

Madlyn Campbell Cooper

Madlyn Campbell Cooper of St. Albans, died at CAMC Memorial Hospital Charleston Monday December 12, 2005 after a short illness.

Madlyn was the daughter of the late Irvin and Lou Vada Campbell, one of 11 children and Aunt to 28 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Andrew J. Kolesar was of the Lutheran Faith and was a kind, Gazing lady, avid gardener and loving and devoted mother. She will be missed by all who loved her.

She is survived by her: Daughter: Myra Cooper of Wilmington, NC; 2 Sisters: Patsy Hess of So. Chazleston; Emma Lou Hayes of Melbourne, FL; 1 Brother: Sam Campbell of So. Charleston;

Service will be 1:00 PM Thursday December 15, 2005 at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Rd. Alum Creek. Burial will be at Graceland Memorial Park So. Charleston. Friends may call one hour prior to service at the funeral home.

Patty Jo Holstein

Patty Jo Hosltein, 66, of Alum Creek, was delivered into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, December 11, 2006 surrounded by those who loved her most, her children. She conducted her death the way she did her life, with beauty, grace and the faith of a true Christian.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jackie; parents, Hobart and Mae Sowards and sister, Anna Lou Shamblin.

She was a member of Briar Creek Baptist Church.

She is survived by her children, Cathy McCallister and husband, Red, Isaac “Jay” Holstein IV and wife, Danette, Steven Aulden Holstein and wife, Catherine E., Eric Lee Holstein and beloved friend, Susan Harrah; 1 I grandchildren; three brothers, Donald, Ronald, and Rodney Sowards; one sister, Wilma Halley.

Services will be 1:00 PM on Wednesday, December 14, 2005 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Rev. Robert Van-Fossen officiating. Burial will be held in Holstein Cemetery, Dartmont. Friends may call on Tuesday from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home.

Annie “Pat” Clark

Annie “Pat” Clark, 69, of Alum Creek died at home Saturday, December 10, 2005 after a short illness.
She was the daughter of the late Arl and Freda Pauley and was also preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond and Robert.

She was a long standing member of the Council Gap Church of Christ at Sumerco and was a loving and giving mother, friend and neighbor who will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her children, Deborah Cottrill of Charleston, David Clark of Alum Creek, Tammy Ore of Alum Creek, Robert Clark of Sumerco; brother, Arl Pauley of Alum Creek; many loved nieces and nephews; seven grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

Service will be 2:00 pm Tuesday December 13, 2005 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Minister Harold Burns officiating. Burial will be in the Pauley Cemetery, Alum Creek. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to Council Gap Church of Christ, PO Box 93, Sod, WV 25564.

Emmett L. Mitchell

Emmett L. Mitchell, 92, of South Charleston died Wednesday, December 7, 2005 at CAMC Memorial Division, Charleston after a short illness.

Emmett was an active member of the Forks of Coal Missionary Baptist Church, Alum Creek where he was granted the honor of Deacon Emeritus for 44 years of loyal and dedicated service as a deacon. He retired from Dupont with 37 yeazs of service was a WWII Marine Veteran serving in the China Theater of Operation and played a key role in getting the Washington District water service started. Emmett loved working on his farm at Greenview Road since 1952.

He is survived by his two daughters, Melanie Evelyn Williamson and Penelope J. Fockler both of Chazleston; two sons-in-laws, Chazles Parsons of South Charleston and Wallace Webb of Gallatin, Tennessee; 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and one great great grandson.

Service will be 11:00 AM Saturday December 1Q 2005 at the Forks of Coal Missionary Baptist Church, Alum Creek with Pastors David Cyphers and David Mitchell officiating. Burial will be at the Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston. Friends may call from 6 to 8 PM Friday at the Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek.

Carl Lee Stewart Young

Carl Lee Stewart Young, 54, of Orlando, Florida, departed this world December 3, 2005 on a recent hunting trip in West Virginia.

He was the son of Glenver Calvin Stewart and Betty Stewart of Parkersburg.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Jo Ann Young Stewart and son, Glenver Keith Young.
He was employed by Winn Dixie in Orlando, Florida.

He is survived by his wife of seven years, Patty; sons, Kenneth Young and wife, April, Kevin Young; three grandsons, Eric Damain Young, Chase Dillon Young, Brennan Gage Young; sisters, Joyce Brunty of Orlando, Florida, Jo Ellen Brogan of Alum Creek, Melody Anne Futrell of Harriman, Tennessee.

Services will be 2:00 PM on Wednesday, December 7, 2005 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, with Rev. Charles Simmons officiating. Burial will be held at Alford Cemetery, Garretts Bend. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home.

Melba J. Estep

Melba J. Estep, 84, of Alkol, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 2, 2005 at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston.

Melba was known for her singing at church. In the late 1940’s, she first sang with the Linville Quartet, consisting of Melba and her brothers, Ford, Clarkie and Jim Linville. She later sang with the Cooper Family, a group she helped form with her sister and brother-in-law Fred and Helena Cooper, the group was later renamed Saved by Grace. In the later years she sang with her brother Gary and Jim Linville and her sister Helena Cooper, they mostly sang at funerals, including Helena’s funeral in 1997.

She was a member of the Left Fork Church, Alkol.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Collie Estep, Jr.; parents, Sesco and Icy Linville; stepmother, Mary Peter Linville; two brothers, Ford and Clarkie Linville; three sisters, Bessie Linville, Reba Phipps and Helena Cooper.

She is survived by her two sons and their wives, Ronnie and Christy Linville of Alkol, Bobby and Jan Estep of Tornado; two daughters and their husbands, Kathy and Mike Vickers of Alkol, Drema and Donnie Midkiffof Griffithsville; two sisters, Odessa Holley ofJulian, Nellie Keen ofAlkol, four brothers, Gary and Jimmy Linville of Griffithsville, Direamous Linville of Alkol, Doug Linville of Chazlotte, Michigan; nine grandchildren and spouses, Ronna and Chris McCallister, Jamie and Kim Linville, Joey and Susan Estep, DeAnna Cooper, Karrie and Chad Newsome, Robbie Estep, Rachelle Estep, Danielle Cooper, P.J. and Kasey Vickers; 11 great grandchildren, Alli, Austin, Brandi, Hannah, Tanner, Abbi, Jayden, Logan, Jeremiah, Josie and Jessi.
