Mildred G. Fisher

Mildred G. Fisher 93, of Circleville, Ohio formerly of Charleston went home to be with the Lord Friday March 12, 2010 surrounded by her loving family.

She was preceded in death by her husband,  Henry S. Fisher;  son,  Henry Steve Fisher, Jr.; parents Iva and William Kuhn; brother, Charles Kuhn and sisters, Ruby McLaughlin and Louise Benincosa

Mildred was born in Clarksburg, West Virginia October 4, 1916 was a devoted mother and grandmother.  She formerly attended Loudendale Nazarene Church.

Left to Cherish her memory are children, Esther (Frank) Hudson of Circleville, Ohio, and Donna

(Ed)  Moore of Charleston, West Virginia.

Brother, William Kuhn of Cincinnati, Ohio and sister, Barbara Jones of Crossville, Tennessee.

7 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral service and burial will be 2:00 pm Tuesday March 16, at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens Mausoleum  Chapel with Pastor Clarence Hutton officiating. Family and friends may gather one hour prior to the service at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens Mausoleum.

The family would like to thank everyone who prayed and encouraged us through our mothers illness. We especially thank Columbus Heartland  Hospice and Brown Memorial Home in Circleville, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers donation can be made to Heartland Hospice P.O. Box 10086, Toledo, Ohio 43699 in memory of our mother.

Mildred was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She loved to read, crochet and bake. She was always wanting to give to give to family and friends. We will truly miss her but she will always be in our heart.

Alfred Charles Branham

Alfred Charles Branham, 74, of South Charleston passed away Friday, March 12, 2010 at home surrounded by his family.

He was a retired truck driver and member of Teamsters and United Mine Workers of America.  He was a member and served as an usher at Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard & Nell Branham.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Flo

Daughter and son-in-law: Rhonda and Jay Marino

Son and daughter-in-law: Jeff and Tina Branham

Son: Greg Branham

Grandchildren: Nichole Sweeney, Charles Marino, Cara Branham, Jeffrey Shane Branham, Scott Edward Branham and Emily Branham.

Great Grandchildren: Sophia and Coleson Sweeney, Shane and Jacob Branham.

Service will be 1:00 PM Monday, March 15, 2010 at Hopewell Baptist Church located at Junction of 119 S. And Brounland Road, South Charleston, with Pastors Dwight McClure and James Parsons officiating.  Burial will be in Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston.  Friends may call from 4 to 6 pm Sunday at the church.

The Family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the David Lee Cancer Center for their kindness and caring friendship. A special thanks to Dr. Ahmed Khalid.

Marvine Breedlove, 80, of Alkol went home to be with the Lord Monday, March 8, 2010

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Albert Breedlove; parents, Dora Tabor Egnor and William Egnor; Children: Harlan Wilbert, Teddy Lane, Benjamin Scott, Rose Jane and Dottie Evelyn Breedlove; brother, James “Cecil” Egnor; sisters, Pauline Adkins and Dottie Louise Egnor; granddaughter, Kimberly Adkins.

She is survived by:

Everett “E. J.” Cooper, 78, of Charleston, died Friday, March 5, 2010 at CAMC Teays Valley after a long illness.

He was preceded in death by his wife Glennith, parents Everett and Carrie Cooper, sisters Effie   Lovejoy and Glenna Stone and brother James Lawrence Cooper.

He was retired from Smith Transfer Corporation with 33 years of service and was a Army Veteran of the Korean War.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Jackie and Steve Paine of Hurricane, and sister Esta Daugherty of South Charleston. 4 grandchildren Holly Michelle Magnuson, Jonathan David Paine, Elizabeth Anne Paine and Brooks Andrew Paine and 1 great grand-daughter Rhys Jacqueline Magnuson.

Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Monday March 8, at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road Alum Creek. Burial will follow in Orchard Hill Memory Gardens, Yawkey. Family and friends may gather from 4 to 6 PM Sunday at the funeral home.

Sally Ann Means

Sally Ann Means, 62, of Camden, went home to be with Jesus, on Friday, February 26, 2010, at West Virginia University Hospital in Morgantown, following a short illness.

She was the wife of Bruce Dallas Means. They shared 43 happy years of marriage with never an argument.

Besides her husband she is survived by her daughter, Gloria Kay Means of South Charleston, sons, Dallas Lee (Brenda) Means of South Charleston, and John William (Kathy) Means of Clover, and step-son Ralph Pistore of Charleston.

Sally is also survived by 6 grandchildren: Robert, Brandon, and Jason McCord, Michael and Bruce Means, and Jessica Dillon. Brothers: John Johnson of Arizona, and Jerry  (Tina) Reed of Germany. Sister Pat Wagner of Camden.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Delbert and Edith Johnson of Milton Freewaters, Oregon; sister Mary Johnson and brother Leslie Johnson both of Oregon.

A Home-going Celebration  will be 2:00 PM Tuesday at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road Alum Creek with pastors Paul Thompson and Danny Whited officiating. Burial will follow in B J Means Memorial Cemetery on Spring Hill Mountain. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Her children arise up and call her blessed, her husband also, and he praiseth her. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. Prov. 31: 28, 29.

Patty Jean Justice, 71, of Cross Lanes formerly of Alum Creek, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, February 25, 2010, at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston, WV.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Eugene Justice, grandson, Timothy Michael Sterling, and brother, Lloyd Gillenwater.

She was a graduate of Duval High School and a member of Cobbs Creek Missionary Baptist Church, Sod, WV.

She is survived by:

Two Daughters: Kim (Jim) Cyrus  –   Cross Lanes, WV

Dee Dee (David)  Sterling  – Siberia, Russia

Two Sisters: Geraldine Marker  – Sumerco, WV

Bonnie Clark     – Sumerco, WV

L. Calvin Robbins

L. Calvin Robbins, a World War II Veteran, died on February 24, 2010,  at the age of 84.  He was being cared for at the Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston.  His wife, Charlotte Sue Kinder Robbins, and his stepdaughter, Rebecca Robbins Kimmel, were both with him as he peacefully took his last breath.

Born July 20, 1925, in Cinnaminson, New Jersey, he was the son of Lindley C. And Ida Vandervoort Parry Robbins.  He graduated from Westfield Friends, George School and Vanderbilt University, with a B.A. degree in Business Administration.  He was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity.  He was enrolled as a freshman at Swarthmore College before he was drafted in the U.S. Navy.  While in the Navy, he served abroad ship for three years and was awarded two bronze stars.  He was attached to the Third Fleet, spending his entire time in the Pacific Oceans Area.  While still aboard ship in Okinawa, he received an appointment to the Naval Reserve Officer’s Training Program and was sent to Vanderbilt University, where he subsequently graduated and received his commission as Ensign in the United States Naval Reserve.

After graduation from Vanderbilt, he began his career in retail with Montgomery Ward & Company as a management trainee.  During a twelve year period he was the manager of two stores and the regional manager of advertising and sales promotion in Chicago for their North Central region.  While in Chicago he attended Northwestern University, earning credits toward his M.B.A. on the Chicago campus at night.

He then joined Joseph Horne Company, a leading department store in Pittsburgh, during which time he opened and managed two suburban stores and later became the new store development manager for the entire company.  Subsequently., he was appointed by the parent company, Associated Dry Goods Corporation of New York City, to be one of a three-man team to open a new store division in St. Petersburg, FL.  As a Vice President of operations and Superintendent of the company, Robinson’s of Florida grew to be a chain of thirteen major department stores located in west, central and south Florida.  This parent company and all operating divisions were eventually taken over in a merger by The May Department Store Company out of St. Louis.  After this, he joined Heck’s Department Store of Charleston, West Virginia (his wife’s hometown) as a Vice President.  At that time they were operating 65 stores, but the competition forced the company to close.

Following this, he left retail and the then governor of West Virginia, Hon. Gaston Caperton, appointed him Deputy Cabinet Secretary of the Department of Health & Human Services.  After a change of Governors, he was appointed Assistant Director of the Department of Economic Opportunity.  Upon leaving state government, he joined the United National Bank as a Trust Investment Officer and this was his last professional position before he retired.

He served on the advisory board of the Salvation Army, was a Lieutenant in the U.S. Naval Reserve and belonged to the Reserved Officer’s Association. Mr. Robbins was also a member of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, a charter member of the Illinois Huguenot Society and a member of the Board of Trustees of The Alice Paul Institute in Mt. Laurel, New Jersey.  A birthright Quaker, he was the first cousin of Alice Paul, a fellow Quaker and the American suffragist leader who fought for the passage of the Nineteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution which secured a woman’s right to vote.  He was also a direct descendent of John Winthrop, a long-term colonial governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony and of British Naval Captain, William Crispin, the uncle of William Penn and the first Chief Commissioner of the Province of Pennsylvania.

Mr. Robbins is survived by his wife, Charlotte Kinder Robbins of South Charleston, his son, William Greenlee Robbins of St. Petersburg, FL, his stepdaughter, Rebecca Robbins Kimmel of Drexel Hill, PA, and his stepson, Troy A. Mynes of Dunbar.  He leaves three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara Hatley of St. Petersburg, FL.  There will be no viewing or service.  The family will have a private burial in Moorestown, NJ, at a later date.  He donated his brain to The University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia to be used for research in finding a cure for Alzheimer’s disease.

Halley Richard Mitchell

Halley Richard Mitchell,  95, of Alum Creek went home to be with the Lord   Tuesday,  February 23, 2010 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Huntington, WV.

He was a retired manager of Carbide Construction Electrical Dept. with 35 years of service.

He was a member of Dunbar #159 Masonic Lodge & Scottish Rite and a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church but had recently attended Maranatha Fellowship in St. Albans.  He was a Navy Veteran is of WWII.

He is survived by:

Son: Michael (Sandra) Mitchell of South Charleston

Daughters: Myrna Mitchell of South Charleston

Marcella (Jerry)  Turley of Brennigville, PA

3 Grandchildren: Lori, Angie & Jason

Service will be 1:00 pm Friday, February 26, 2010 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Gene Pauley and Rev. David Mitchell officiating.  Burial will be in Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston with military graveside rites conducted by the Benny Padilla VFW Post 4768.  Friends will gather from 6 to 8 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
