Katherine Dunlap Bias

Katherine Dunlap Bias, 83, of Nellis went home to be with the Lord Saturday, April 9, 2011.  She is survived by four sons and one daughter: Mike and Shirley Bias of Chatsworth, GA; David and Patty Bias of Liberty, John and Eula Bias of Ridgeview, Timothy and Ruth Bias of Teays Valley and Dixie and Ronald Barrick of Ridgeview; Two brothers: Kenneth Dunlap and Zack Pauley both of Nellis, WV; Two sisters: Virginia Kinder of Nellis and Mary Akers of Hewett and Several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 12 Noon Thursday, April 14, 2011 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Roger Kratz officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, McCorkle. Family and friends may gather one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Betty Jane Knightstep

Betty Jane Knightstep, 84, of Dunbar died Thursday, March 31, 2011, after a long illness. She was born November 12, 1926 in Sandyville, WV. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Kristopher Kenneth Samples, parents and siblings.  She leaves behind her husband of 64 years, Robert, daughters: Donna (Ken) Samples and Robbie (Matt) Coleman. 

Betty was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.  There will be a private graveside service on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at the Samples Family Cemetery, South Charleston, WV, where she will be laid to rest near her beloved grandson.

Zulema Marie McClure

Zulema Marie McClure, 83 of Sumerco was taken to heaven with angels by her side on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 after a long illness.  She was born January 12, 1928 in Lincoln County, she was a long time resident of Sumerco, WV. She was employed by Fas Chek for 25 years. She was a member of Cobbs Creek Missionary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clara and Emery Dunlap; sisters, Eleanor Dunlap and Sandra McCallister, and brother Kenneth Dunlap.   Zulema cherished her family and friends and leaves behind her husband, Clifford; Daughter: Vickie (Charles) Runyan of Sod; Grandchildren: Chris Runyan of North Manchester, IN; Lori (Brian) Woodrum of Sod;Great grandchildren: Elizabeth and Charlie Woodrum of Sod; Siblings: Marcel (Norma) Dunlap of Alum Creek; Ardith Dunlap of Sumerco; Sherry (Rudy) Thomas of Sumerco and Bonnie Roberts of Griffithsville.  She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and friends who loved her dearly.

Zulema was a faithful, loving and devoted Christian wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was always there with a smile on her face to lend a helping hand. She will truly be missed by many.

A service to celebrate Zulema’s life will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, April 2, 2011 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Rev. Clarence Hutton and Pastor Butch Leadman officiating. Burial will be at Lively Cemetery, Sod, WV. Family and friends will gather from 6 to 8 pm Friday at the funeral home.

Debbie Lynn Cawthon Hanson, 62, of South Charleston went to be with her Savior the Lord Jesus Christ Wednesday March 30, 2011 at home.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Ova Kidd Cawthon; and formerly worked for Elizabeth Arden at Kaufmann’s Department Store.

She is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Dick Hanson; Daughter and son-in-law: Angie and Tom Diehl of Rome, GA; 3 granddaughters: Taylor, Natalee and Zoe Diehl; Mother-in-law: Billie Wright of St. Albans; uncle and aunt: Kenny and Pat Kidd of Spring Hill.

A memorial service will be 12:00 noon Saturday April 2, 2011 at Spring Hill Baptist Church, 4707 Ohio St., South Charleston with Pastor Mark Patton officiating.  Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.  In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Hospice Care 1606 Kanawha Blvd., W., Charleston, WV 25312-2536.

 

Boyd Justice

Boyd Justice, 70, of Sumerco went home to be with the Lord Tuesday March 29, 2011 at Hubbard Hospice House after a long illness.  He was retired from General Electric and was a Christian.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert & Macel Justice; brother, Ernie Ray Justice and granddaughter, Savannah Lovejoy.   He is survived by his wife: Sally Justice; Children: Curtis (Gail) Justice of Alum Creek, Kevin (Deborah) Justice of Sissonville, Diana Lovejoy of Sumerco, Greg (Erica) Justice of Sumerco; Brothers: Londis Justice, Kessell Justice and Okey Justice; Sisters: Mabel Loftis, Artina Pauley, Vada Pauley & Margie McCallister; Grandchildren: Randy (Tiffany) Justice, Kenneth Abbott, Dakota Lovejoy, Auston Hughes, Amanda (Doug) Pauley and Curtis (Nikki) Banks and Great-grandchildren: Easton Justice, Alexis Pauley, Andrew & Alexander Banks.

Funeral service will be 3:00 pm Friday, April 1, 2011 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Rev. Bill Toler officiating. Burial will follow in Orchard Hills Memory

Harry “Ike” Mallory

Harry “Ike” Mallory 50, of Nitro passed away Saturday March 19, 2011 at home.  He was a 1978 Graduate of Duval High School.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul & Essie Mallory, sister, Linda Sue Walls and brothers, Steve & Clifford Mallory.

He is survived by Daughter: Misty (Robert) Burns of OH; Son: Jason (Amy) Mallory of Nitro; 3 grandchildren: Jenna ,Dylan and Chris; 4 sisters: Brenda Bowen, Jenny Collins, Edna Arias and Kathy (Steve) Stone and several nieces & nephews, other family and many friends.

Services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, March 24, 2011 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, with Pastor Dwight McClure officiating Burial will follow at Miller – Mallory Family Cemetery, Alkol.  Family and friends will gather 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Denny Ray Beach

Denny Ray Beach, 64, of Milton formerly of Sumerco passed away Friday March 18, 2011 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington.  He was a Vietnam veteran . 

He is survived by:  Daughter: Chris Marsh,  Wooster, OH;   Sons: Brian Keith Beach, North Ridgeview, OH; Shawn Stephen Beach ,Cleveland, OH; Sister: Dorothy Whanger – Milton, WV; 7 Grandchildren and 1 Great Grandson. 

Graveside services with military rites will be at 11:00am on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at the WV National Cemetery, Grafton, WV, with Chaplain Randy Jennings officiating.  Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, WV, is in charge of arrangements.

 

Robert Daman Redmond

Robert Daman Redmond, 33 of Charleston passed away quietly in his sleep Wednesday, March 16, 2011.  He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Betty Lupson.

He was survived by his parents; Ray and Jean Ann Lupson Swach of Charleston; Daughter: Addison Storm Redmond of Poca; Brother: Jonathan Lupson of Charleston; Fiancee: Andrea Newman; Grandfather: Arthur Lupson of Charleston; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many friends.

A graveside service will be held at Forks of Coal Memorial Park Alum Creek at a later date.

Carl Lester Bell

Carl Lester Bell age 78 of Yawkey, West Virginia, passed on to his heavenly home on March 15, 2011, at his home surrounded by his loving family.  He was born September 30, 1932, the son of the late Carl Bell and Marie Elswick Bell. Lester was also preceded in death by sisters Alta Faye Harmon, Rosalie Shirley and an infant sibling.

Survivors include his wife of over 57 years Shirley June McClure Bell, a sister Anna Mae Roberts, his only son, Mark Edward Bell (Vicki), and four grandchildren: Meghan, Meredith, Brendan and Joshua Bell.

Lester graduated from Duval High School in 1950 and married his lifetime companion shortly thereafter. He served his country in the United States Army. He retired from Columbia Gas Transmission in 1985 as a right-of-way agent with 30 plus years of service.  Upon retiring, Lester never stopped working. He was always helping those in need and his many neighbors and friends. In the late 1980’s he was called by God into the ministry and pastored the Porter Fork, Beech Grove and Joe’s Creek Baptist Churches. He and his lovely wife have served the Lord unselfishly over the past years. However, due to illness, Lester had to give up his great gift of preaching God’s word. He was a member of the Porter Fork Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday March 19 at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road Alum Creek with the Rev. Oshel Bell and Rev. Richard Ruby officiating. Burial will follow at Orchard Hill Memory Gardens, Yawkey, West Virginia.  Family and friends will gather from 6 to 8 pm Friday at the funeral home.  The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to a special friend, C. W. “Clifford” Griffith and the staff of Hospice of Charleston/Boone County Division, as well as extended family, friends and neighbors who have been so supportive during Lester’s illness.

Michael L. Miller

Michael L. Miller,  62, of Alkol died Tuesday March 15, 2011 at St. Francis Hospital Charleston after a short illness.  He was a disabled coal miner and member of UMWA.  He was preceded in death by his son, Paul; parents, Anna Gae Harless and Kendall Roberts; brother, Lyle Harless and grandparents, Willard and Mary Miller. 

He is survived by his: Sons: Jeff (Jodi) of Sod; Mike of Yawkey; Grandchildren: Reece and Bobbi RaeAnn Miller; Sister: Rosanna (Vernon) Asbury of Alkol; Linda (Rick) Bowling of Madison; Companion: Doris Arthur; and Daughter in the heart, MaKayla Faith Arthur

Funeral service will be Sunday, March 20, 2011 at 3:00 pm at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Ministers Brian Barrett, Ronnie Linville and K.D. Bragg officiating. Burial will follow in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens. Family and friends will gather 2 hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
