Ralph Arnett, 88 of Dunbar formerly of St. Albans passed away peacefully in his sleep Monday November 27, 2011 at Sweetbrier Extended Living facility.

He was born February 2, 1923 in Spencer, West Virginia to the late Blanche and E. C. Arnott. He was one of 12 brothers and sisters.

Upon graduation from Spencer High School, Ralph went to Baltimore, Maryland to help build planes for WW II. There he met Arietta the love of his life. They moved to Charleston and later to St. Albans where they had 3 children. He worked for FMC as a maintenance foreman and retired in 1978.

Ralph was an active man who built his own house, was a faithful church member at Highlawn Baptist and enjoyed coaching the church youth basketball league. He was also an active member of the St. Albans High School Sponsors Club.

He was a wonderful family man and had an abundance of friends in the Kanawha Valley. Ralph never met a stranger and love to talk and tell stories about his past to friends and family.

He was also preceded in death by his wife Arietta, daughter Linda, brothers Omar, Harlan, Romie, Ray, Roy, and Herb, sisters Thelma, Beulah, Juanita, and Evelyn.

He is survived by his sons Alfred and wife Mary of Lewisburg, Denny and wife Debbie of St. Albans, grandsons: Jon of Huntington, Mark and wife Laura and great granddaughter Alexis of Virginia and grandson Davin of Charleston, and brother Kenny Arnott of Dunbar.

Ralph also loved the staff and residents at Sweetbriar. He lived there for 2 plus years, was easily a favorite there of many. The Arnett family thanks the staff there for keeping Ralph happy to the end.

Service will be at ll:00 AM Thursday December 1, 2011 at Highlawn Baptist Church in St. Albans with Pastor Mark Stauffer officiating. Burial will be at Cunningham Memorial Park St. Albans. Family and friends will gather from 6 to 8 pm Wednesday at the church.

Rev. Forrest W. Curry, 84, of Hamlin went home to meet his Heavenly Father Wednesday, November 23, 2011 after a short illness.

He was a Pastor in area churches for more than 60 years and a retired superintendent for Ryder Construction.

 He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Alberta Roberts Curry; brother, Gene Curry; sister-in-law, Linda Burns Curry; daughter-in-law, Carol Bailey Curry, and great grandson Dalton Bills.

 He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Kathleen Barrett Curry; daughter, Kathy Hodge (companion, John Welbourn);sons, Rodney (Kathy Sue) Curry, Charles (Valorie) Curry; sisters, Helen Curry, Ruth (Larry) Bays; Brother, Fred Curry; 10 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and other family and friends.

 Funeral service will be 11:00 am Sunday, November 27, 2011 at the First Baptist Church, State Street, Hamlin, with Pastors David Burch and Jim Caldwell officiating. Burial will follow in Harvey’s Creek Cemetery. Family and friends will gather Saturday from 5 – 8:00 pm at the church.

Tyler Forest Trammell, 21, of Ottawa, departed this world after a short illness on Monday, November 21, 2011 to dance with the angels in heaven. He was born September 16, 1990 in Logan, WV.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Nina Lois Trammell and his uncle, James R. Burgess, both of Ottawa, WV. Also, by his maternal grandfather, Larry W. Chambers of Danville, WV, and Barry J. Ulbrich and Scotty Ulbrich, uncle and cousin of Chapmanville, WV.

Tyler graduated from Scott High School in 2009. He was a former player and board member of the Washington District Midget Football League. He attended Spruce Laurel Church; he enjoyed music, knife collecting, four-wheeling, and playing with his dogs, Zero, Pebbles and Midnight. His interests included working on vehicles and being a helper to his friend, Terry Anthony. Tyler was a big fan of WVU Football and liked to watch wrestling with his dad. He was a true joy to everyone and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his parents, Kent and Ann Trammell; sister, Allison all of Ottawa; maternal grandmother, Corine Chambers of Bim; papaw, James Marvin White of Bim; uncle, John (Karen) Burgess of Greenview; aunt, Jean Myer of Seacoal; uncle, Kevin (Susan) Trammell, Danville; aunt, Myrtle (Brian) Miller, Salem, VA; aunt, Marilyn (Thomas) Jarrell, Greenview; aunt, Kim (Denzil) Ross of Alum Creek; best friends, Justin Chambers and Zach Ross and numerous other cousins and friends.

William F.( Freddy) Thomas, born October 3, 1939, of Thomas Mountain Road, South Charleston, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, November 19, 2011.

He was preceded in death by his parents; John Henry and June I. Thomas, brother James H. Thomas and sister Helen Blalock and granddaughter, Lavonna June Thomas.

He was a member of the Crooked Creek Church of God/Church of The Word of South Charleston and a retired construction worker and member of the UMWA.

He is survived by his; children; William H. (Sophia) Thomas of Parkersburg, Debbie (John) Erice of Lewiston, Idaho, James C. (Janeen) Thomas of Parkersburg, Paula Thomas of Cleveland Ohio, Anthony (Retha) Thomas of Parkerburgh, Troy L. (Janet) Thomas of Danville, Lisa White of Madison, Angie (Robert) Erwin, Lisa (Dallas) Acres, and William F. (Dina) Thomas III all of Fraziers Bottom.

He is also survived by his sister June I. (Patty) Thomas, and brothers; Gene R., and Edward R. (Valerie) Thomas, John L. Thomas all of So. Charleston, Danny Joe (Sharon) Thomas of DeFuniak Springs, Florida and Larry D. (Anne) Thomas of Ravenswood.

Mr. Thomas is also survived by 28 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren, and aunts Mary (Ernest) Pauley of Dunbar, and Joanne Fletcher of Brounland.

He will be sadly missed by his cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and many friends.

Service will be 1:00 PM Wednesday November 23, at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road Alum Creek with Pastor Mark Thaxton officiating. Internment will be in the Thomas Family Cemetery on Thomas Mountain Road,off Ballard Road, So. Charleston. Family and friends will gather from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.

Our Mother, Agnes Marie Pauley, passed from this life Saturday, November 19, 2011 at age 90.  Agnes was born Christmas Day, 1920 and lived a full active life at the place she loved most, Ivy Mountain, McCorkle, WV.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Seth and son, Roger; mother and father, Ethel and George Graley; brothers, Leroy, George, Arley and Bruce Graley; and sister, Delores Dunlap.

Agnes is survived by her children, Christine Holt, Ronald (Alma Lou) Pauley, Glen Pauley, Sharon (George) Hughes, and Donald Pauley; sister-in-law,  Eloise Graley; grandchildren, Anthony Arnold, Ricky Pauley, Melissa Ferrell, Tina Curry, Tony Pauley, Timmy Pauley, Denise Branham, Roger Pauley, Jason Elkins, Glen Pauley, Jennifer King, Krista Williams and D. J. Pauley; 30 great grandchildren; 17 great great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastors Rexal Cooper and Dwight McClure officiating.  Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, McCorkle.  Family and friends will gather from 12 Noon to 2:00 PM prior to the funeral service.

 Glenn Allenn Arrington, 73, of Alum Creek, passed away Monday, November 14, 2011, at home.     

Glenn was born on May 14, 1938, in Landisburg, WV to the late Hester Anderson Arrington Hanshaw and the late Harold Arrington. He attended Charleston High School. Glenn was a member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters United Association for 54 years.

 Glenn was known to many as the “Singing Plumber”. With his happy-go-lucky attitude, he always had a song ready. He was proud to have worked as the General Foreman on the remodeling of the WV Water Company. It was the largest mechanical contract of its time. He was privileged to work alongside his step-father and brother on the Charleston National Bank Building (now known as the Chase Bank building).

His step-father, Frank, started the plumbing  job there and Glenn and his brother, Dallas were the last two plumbers to leave when the building was finsihed.  Glenn could often be foundworking in his garden or taking his grandchildren for rides on his tractor.  He was a hard worker and always found time to help his friends and neighbors.

 Glenn is preceded in death by his mother, Hester Arrington Hanshaw, father, Harold Arrington, step-father Frank Hanshaw, and sister Ruth Burdette Clark.

Glenn is survived by his wife of 44 years, Virginia Ann Withrow Arrington; three daughters, Bonita McClure (Buddy) – Alkol, Lori Smith (Allen) – Alum Creek and Lynn Reynolds (John) – Alum Creek; brother, Dallas (Norma) Arrington – Charleston; sister, Karen Sue (James) Comer – Ravenswood; seven grandchildren, Amber Holestin, T.J. Meadows, Zeke Smith, Levi Smith, Caleb Smith, Samuel Reynolds and William Reynolds and several great-grandchldren.

 In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a favorite charity in his name. Being the giving man that he was, Glenn’s last request was that his body be donated to the Human Gift Registry.

 A celebration of Glenn’s life will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at Alum Creek Independent Missionary Baptist Church at 12:00 noon with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Family and friends may gather one hour prior to the service.

General C. Bowman, 88 of Alum Creek, departed this life Monday, November 14, 2011 after a long illness.

He was the son of the late Fred and Zella Bowman; also preceded in death by his wife, Mariah and brothers: Jerry, Freddie and Edward.

He was retired from Barboursville State Hospital.

He is survived by his daughter, Janet (Ben) Swartz of Parkersburg;  two sons, Bryant (Barbara) Bowman of Alum Creek and Giles (Sarah) Bowman of Charleston;  brother, Paul (Barbara) Bowman of Alum Creek;  sister, Kay (Jerry) Fannin of Charleston;  six grandchildren;  two great grandchildren;  two step-daughters,  Shirley (Phil) Thompson of Alum Creek and Joan (Fred) Lane of St. Albans.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am Thursday at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will be at the Bowman Family Cemetery at Alum Creek. Family and friends will gather from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Odie Kinsolving, 87 years and seven months old, of Charleston peacefully departed this earthly life at home on Saturday November 12, 2011 with his family by his side.  He courageously endured surgery, hospitalization and radiation treatment in his battle with cancer.  He loved to sing praises to the Lord and has entered his heavenly home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Odie was born on April 7, 1924 and was the seventh child of Walter Scott Kinsolving, Sr. And Edna Crowder Kinsolving. He was the last of ten brothers and sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Rev. Louis , Walter Jr., Matthew, Neal, James, and a baby brother, sisters, Helen, Ruby, and Ruth. He was also preceded in death by his much loved Shih Tuzu, Buffy Rose.

 He was a lifelong resident of Kanawha County, growing up in Ward. He graduated in 1943 from East Bank High School, where he was president of the Carbon Chemistry Club. On September 29, 1950, he married his sweetheart Mildred. He was an operator and shift mechanic at Dupont Chemical Plant in Belle with 43 years of service.

Odie accepted Jesus as his Savior when he was 26 years old. He lived his life as a Christian and attended the Bible Center Church for many years. He prayed the Lord would allow him to have his 87^th birthday and he was humbled and blessed by more than 100 birthday cards. The family would like to thank the pastors and congregations of Alum Creek Independent Missionary Baptist Church, First Baptist of St. Albans, and Mount Calvary Baptist Church of Greenville, South Carolina for their continued prayers and Christian love.

Odie was a faithful husband, daddy, granddaddy, great-granddaddy, uncle, brother, son, and friend. He was always busy with his hands, fixing things that needed to be repaired, and helping others. He lovingly provided and sacrificed for his family. The WVU Mountaineers were his favorite team–football and basketball. He loved the blue and gold! He always enjoyed filling the birdfeeder watching the birds and working in his garden.

Odie is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years Mildred (Moore) Kinsolving, daughters, Ann of Charleston; Mary Beth (John) Hiller, of Taylors, South Carolina; son, Athel (Kelly), of Alum Creek. He has eight grandchildren-Jonathan (Laura), Joshua, Johanna (Daniel) Ellis, Joy and Justin Hiller, Bethany Simmons, Lacy and Caleb Kinsolving, and two great-grandchildren, Annie and Peter Ellis. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and DuPont buddies.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at 1:00 pm at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road. Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman and his friend Bryant Bowman officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm prior to the funeral service. Burial will be held at Elk Hills Memorial Park in Big Chimney.

The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to Dr. Ed Hamrick Jr., Camc Memorial Hospital, the nurses of Three North and Three South, Dr. Arun Nagarajan, Charleston Radiology staff, and Dr. Prem Raja, Sam and Fruth Pharmacy Express for the compassion and care shown during Odie’s illness. The family would also like to express deepest gratitude to the Hospice nurses and staff who came to care for him. They have been a source of encouragement and support making it possible for Daddy to remain at home until his homegoing.

Vaughn (Pete) Bryant, 72 of Yawkey, went home to the Lord Thursday, November 10, 2011 at home after a short illness.

He was the son of the late Herman and Helen Bryant and was also preceded in death by his wife Shirley,  brother Ray, sister Mary Clark,

He was a retired coal miner from Hobet Minning Inc. and was a member of the UMWA. He loved horses and was an avid trail rider.

He is survived by his daughters, Dianna (Roy) Gibson of Goldtown, Sherry Bryant of Malden, and Amanda Bryant.

Grandchildren: Debbie (Mark) Wilt, Michele (Roger) Sias and Kassie Roberts.

Great Grandchildren: Heather, Michael, Olivia, Brandon and

Braden and many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all his family and trail riding buddies.

Services will be 2:00 PM Sunday November 13 at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Greg Reese officiating. Burial will be in the Bryant Family Cemetery at Yawkey. Family and friends will gather from 7 to 9 pm Saturday at the funeral home.

Harold Cline Harvey, Sr., 66, Yawkey died Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at the VA Medical Center in Huntington after a long illness.

He was a retired coal miner, a member of the UMWA, 32nd degree Mason with the Griffithsville Masonice Lodge 71 in Griffithsville and a lifetime member of the Benny Padilla VFW Post 4768 of Alum Creek; a volunteer driver for Duval EMS for 18 years; and attended New Covenant Baptist Church, Alum Creek.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Joan;  two daughters, Ginger (Tai) Chaowadee, Becky McCallister and companion, David Boggs; son, Henry Harvey and companion, Lora; two brothers: Harry (Barb) and Cesco (Joy);  two sisters, Jane Harvey and Mae (Guy) Shultz; eight grandchildren, Sarah, Carlo, Holly, HN Raychel Huggins USN and her husband, Max; Justin, Haley, Dakota & Carly and four great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 3:00 pm Saturday, November 12, 2011 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor’s Jackie Miller and Londis Justice officiating. Burial will follow in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens with Masonic graveside rites by Griffithsville Masonic Lodge 71 and Military graveside rites conducted by the Benny Padilla VFW Post 4768 of Alum Creek. Family and friends will gather 2 hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
