Zenith Arlington Bragg, 86, of Alum Creek passed away Friday, January 16, 2026, at home.

Zenith worked as a roofer most of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dennis & Ivy Guthrie Bragg; sisters, Christine Pauley, Ethel Barker and Stella Cecil; brothers, Leroy and Damon Bragg.

Zenith is survived by his sisters, Janice Midkiff and Connie Raines; brothers, Stanley and Clinton (Dorie) Bragg; many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 1:00, Thursday, January 22, 2026, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastors Kenton Cecil and Kenny Pauley officiating. Burial will follow at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens. Friends and family will gather one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Jennings P. Miller

Jennings P. Miller, age 84, passed away from this earthly life to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday Jan 15, 2026. Jennings was a resident of Madison, WV. He was born on January 19, 1941.

Jennings was a 1960 graduate of Scott High School and attended two years at Marshall University. He served in the United States Army from 1963-1965. He began work with Armco Steel then for 17.5 years was a salesman for Carmet Mine Tools. In 1988 he was elected Sheriff of Boone Co, serving two terms from 1988-1996. During his time as Sheriff, he started Boone Co very first D.A.R.E. Program, Special Olympics and the Neighborhood Crime Watch. In 1997 he was then elected as Boone Co. Assessor where he worked until he retired on December 31, 2016. During his time as Assessor, he served as the President of the WV Assessor’s Association and was named West Virginia’s Democrat of the year in 2003. He was a member of the Madison Masonic Blue Lodge, 32nd Degree Mason Shriner and Order of Jesters and a long-time member of Madison United Methodist Church. In Jenning’s spare time he loved gardening, canning and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Sadie Miller, stepmother Virginia Miller, sister Jeanette Hodges (David), brother Leland Miller, brother Earl JR Miller (Carter), brother Harry Lee Miller, niece and nephews Veronica Miller, HL Miller and Pat Miller.

He is survived by his loving wife Mary “Ruth” Miller, son Jeff Honeycutt (Tara), son Leland Miller, grandchildren Nevin (Megan) Honeycutt, Chad Honeycutt, Ryan Honeycutt, Makenzie White, Katelyn Miller, Kaden Miller and Gavin Miller, great grandsons, Wylder and Rader Honeycutt, sister-in-law, Laverne Miller and brother-in-law, Jim (Pat) Castle and a host of nieces, nephews and close friends.

The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00pm, on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at Curry Funeral Home located in Alum Creek, WV.

The family would like to express their gratitude and thanks to Dignity Hospice Care of Chapmanville, WV.

In-Lieu of flowers, friend and family can make charitable contributions on behalf of Jennings P. Miller to Dignity Hospice Care at P.O. Box 4304, Chapmanville, WV 25508. A graveside service will be held in the spring for family and close friends.

Eugene Ward Ball

Eugene Ward Ball, 102, of Alum Creek, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Monday, January 12, 2026.

He was a retired veteran of the United States Marine Corps with 24 years of honorable service. He moved around during his career but loved his home in Alum Creek. He enjoyed nature and being outside.

Gene was born in Ward, WV, to the late Jake and Anna Cline Ball. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Harold Ball; sisters, Genevieve Lyon, Gladys Smith, and Shirley Smith; his wife, Jacqueline Ball, with whom he had no children; stepdaughter, Paula Pauley; and his longtime friend, Hershel “Woody” Williams.

He is survived by his brother, Donald Ball; his beloved wife, Evelyn Louise Ball; his brother-in-law, Paul Hedrick (Debbie); niece, Jacque Chapman (Jarrod) and their children, Jarron and Camille; special friends, with whom he loved to visit, Don Dunlap and Charlotte Robins; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by stepchildren, Diana Coffman; Patricia “Patty” Quessenderry; step- grandchildren, Matthew Pauley, Joseph Pauley, Anita Wade, Scott Coffman, and Amy Santigo; step great grandchildren, Tyler, Grayce, Garret, Dalton, Isaiah, Christian, Jayden, Ryan, Ethan, Paisley, Colin, Asher, Rebecca, and Thomas; 5 step-great-great-grandchildren and 10 step-great great-great grandchildren.

Memorial service will be 2:00pm, Saturday, January 17, 2026, at Curry Funeral Home with Pastor David Mitchell officiating. Friends and family will gather one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Burial will be on July 4, 2026, which is the 250th birthday of our nation, at his home, 136 Lock Lane, Alum Creek, WV.

Special thanks to Al Lipscomb, a personal Marine Corps friend, who has been a great help in Gene’s last days.

Paul Richard Kinzer

Paul Richard Kinzer, 87, of Charleston, son of the late George and Corna Corns Kinzer, passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at Valley Center, South Charleston.

Paul was a graduate of Washington District High School and a retired sales associate at Walmart in the Sporting Goods department.

He was preceded in death by his twin sister, with whom he shared a lifelong bond, Paulette Flowers; sisters, Glessa Elswick and Evelyn Jean White; brother, George “Buddy” Kinzer.

Paul is survived by his son, Paul R. Kinzer, II; sister, Brenda Layne; grandson, Matthew Kinzer; 1 great grandson; niece, Kimberli (Kevin) Lanham; nephew, Paul Edward Kinzer; great nephews, Sean and Brendan Lanham; and many more nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Service will be 2:00pm, Sunday, January 11, 2026, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek. Burial will follow at Tudor Cemetery, South Charleston. Friends and family will gather one hour prior to the service.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the caregivers who became friends at Valley Center.

Richard Wayne “Rick” Ryan, 68, of Sod, WV, died Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at home. He is preceded in death by his father, Earl Junior Ryan.

He worked for Hobet Mining as a belt line mechanic and was a UMWA member where he served as treasurer of Union Local #2286. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge 71, Griffithsville, WV, where he served as treasurer for many years and was a member of Valley Woodworkers of WV, Dunbar, WV.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Terri Childs Ryan, mother, Peggy Ryan, daughter, April Leshon, and son, Travis Ryan. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Garrett Ryan, Gracey Darnell, and Grant Leshon, two great-grandchildren, Easton Ryan and Gwendolyn Darnell, and brothers, Greg Ryan, (Teresa) and Todd Ryan (Jane).

Service will be 1:00pm Monday, January 12, 2026, at Curry Funeral Home. Burial with Masonic Rites following at Ryan Cemetery, Flat Creek, WV. Friends and family will gather two hours prior to the service.

Landon Matthew Holley

Landon Matthew Holley joined his little Sister, Lauren, his Papaw Roger, Papaw Gary and Granny Susie in Heaven January 1, 2026. He was a 2025 graduate of LCHS. Landon was employed by Lincoln County EMS and was going to start a new job at the Donald R. Kuhn Juvenile Center on January 12th working for his Uncle Darren. He was still debating what actual Career field he wanted to go into. Landon accepted Jesus as his savior at the age of 8 was baptized and was a member of Sycamore Grove Missionary Baptist Church of Alkol.

Landon enjoyed all the things most young men enjoyed, spending time with his brother Logan and their friends, Hunting, Fishing, Football, especially the Chicago Bears and WV Mountaineers and going out with pretty girls.

Landon had a joke up his sleeve or a clever, funny comment for every conversation or situation. Nearly all the memories his friends and family are sharing are funny things he said or did.

He is survived by his Dad, Rodney Holley, his Mom, Angie Roberts Holley, Twin Brother, Logan Holley (Jaidyn Crosby), Mamaw, Pat Holley, Mamaw, Jo (Joann Loftis), Uncles, James Roberts and Darren (Mollie) Holley, Aunt, Amanda (Gibby) Holley Gibson, Cousins, Sarah Holley, Caleb and Noah Gibson, Lifelong friend, Jake Pauley, and many other friends and family.

Service will be 2:00pm, Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Clinton Craddock officiating. Friends and family will gather two hours prior to the service.

Lyndel Shaffer

Lyndel Shaffer, 88, of Alkol passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at Putnam Center, Hurricane.

Lyndel was the former owner of Shaffer’s Personal Care Home. She was a member of Beech Grove Baptist Church and loved to craft, knit, quilt, sew, and cook.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Maywood and Lena Griffith Turley; husband, Julian “Red” Shaffer; sisters, Wiladean Smith, Doris Harless, and Gatha Estep; twin brother, Denzil Turley.

Lyndel is survived by her daughter, Monica (Aric) Summers; son, Kevin Shaffer; grandchildren, Leslee Shaffer, Lynsey (Joe) Hargraves; great grandchildren, Dylan Hargraves and Reed Hargraves; caregiver, Amanda Braley; and several nieces and nephews.

Service will be 1:00pm, Monday, January 5, 2026, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Mike Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Friends and family will gather one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Orman Keith Wade

Orman Keith Wade, 72, of Griffithsville passed away Sunday, December 28, 2025, at Thomas Memorial Hospital.

Keith retired from Trimble Engineers and Construction as a equipment operator. He was a member of UMWA District #17. He was a 1971 graduate of Duval High School. He attended Eden Baptist Church and was baptized May 7, 2000. He loved being outdoors, farming, and was a true cowboy at heart.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Maynard and Emmer McCallister Wade; son, Brandon Keith Wade; sisters, Mary Ellen Miles and Margaret Vickers.

Keith is survived by his wife of 43 years, Karen; daughters, Kadara (Doug) Hudson and Sarah Wade (T.J. Meadows); sister, Paula Higginbotham. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Service will be 2:00pm, Saturday, January 3, 2026, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Rexall Cooper officiating. Friends and family will gather one hour prior to the service.

Adaline “Sally” Sayre Riester, 88, of South Charleston died Monday, December 29, 2025, at home after a long illness.

Sally was a member of South Charleston First Church of God.

She was preceded in death by her son, Charles “Chuck” Sayre and husbands, Kelly Sayre and Joseph Riester.

Sally is survived by her daughter, Karen (Howard) McClure of South Charleston; sons, Eddie Sayre of Leon and Walter (Lisa) Sayre of St. Albans.

Funeral service will be 1:00pm, Friday, January 2, 2026, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Jerry Walker officiating. Burial will follow at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes. Friends and family will gather one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mary Lou Pardue

Mary Lou Pardue, 74 of Hamlin, passed away on December 18, 2025, at Lincoln Health Care in Hamlin.

Mary Lou was the former owner of Pardue’s Grocery and enjoyed spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Stella Dotson Egnor, her husband, William H. Pardue, her daughter, Kimberly Pardue Adkins and her siblings; Ann, Lee, Evelyn “Burhead”, Ellen, Helen, Chuck, Roger, and Lucille.

She is survived by her daughter, Carrie Pardue (Joe); grandchildren, Heather Adkins, Hillary Sowards (Greg); great grandchildren, Braylee and Kayla Sowards. Sister, Sue Goode (Bill), and her brother, Johnny Egnor, Jr. (Ruth).

Graveside service and burial will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday December 22, 2025, at Forks of Coal Memorial Park, Alum Creek with Pastor Dwight McClure officiating.
