JOHN H. SMITH, 86, OF SO. CHARLESTON, DIED THURSDAY, MARCH 6, 1997 AT HOME AFTER A LONG ILLNESS.

HE WAS AN ELECTRICIAN WITH 56 YEARS OF SERVICE AND A MEMBER OF THE INTERNATIONAL BROTHERHOOD OF ELECTRICAL WORKERS LOCAL #466. HE WAS A WWII NAVY VETERAN, A MEMBER OF THE ALUM CREEK V.F.W. POST #4768 AND A HONORARY MEMBER OF THE KENTUCKY COLONELS.

HE IS SURVIVED BY HIS: WIFE: OPAL DENT SMITH; 2 SONS: EDWIN E. “GENE” SMITH, OF SO. CHARLESTON, WV; DONALD P. SMITH OF CHARLESTON, WV; 2 DAUGHTERS: JANET E. SHAMBLIN OF TAMPA, FL; PHYLLIS L. DOLLMAN OF CULPEPER, VA; 1 BROTHER: KENNETH M. SMITH OF NAPLES, FL; 10 GRANDCHILDREN; 11 GREAT GRANDCHILDREN; 1 STEP GREAT GREAT GRANDDAUGHTER.

SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT CURRY FUNERAL HOME, ALUM CREEK, ON SUNDAY, MARCH 9, 1997 AT 2:00 PM WITH PASTOR MAYFORD WITT AND PASTOR CHARLES LARUE OFFICIATING. BURIAL WITH MILITARY GRAVESIDE RITES CONDUCTED BY THE ALUM CREEK V.F.W. POST #4768 WILL BE HELD AT GRACELAND MEMORIAL PARK, SO. CHARLESTON. FRIENDS MAY CALL AT THE FUNERAL HOME ON SATURDAY, MARCH 8, 1997 FROM 6:00 TO 8:00 PM. IN LIEU OF FLOWERS THE FAMILY SUGGESTS THAT DONATIONS BE MADE TO KANAWHA HOSPICE CARE, INC., 1143 DUNBAR AVENUE, DUNBAR, WV 25064.
