EDGEL MCCORMICK, 84, OF SO. CHARLESTON DIED TUESDAY, JANUARY 7, 1997 AT HODGES NURSING HOME IN CHARLESTON AFTER A SHORT ILLNESS.
HE WAS RETIRED FROM EI DUPONT CO. AT BELLE. HE WAS A WWII ARMY VETERAN, A RECIPIENT OF THE PURPLE HEART, AND A MEMBER OF THE WV CHAPTER OF THE 82ND AIRBORNE DIVISION. HE WAS A 50 YEAR MEMBER OF THE MASONIC LODGE #71 AF&AM AT GRIFFITHSVILLE. HE WAS A MEMBER OF ALUM CREEK VFW POST X4768 AND HE WAS A DEACON OF THE FORKS OF COAL MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH.
HE IS SURVIVED BY: HIS WIFE: MABEL PRIESTLEY MCCORMICK; 2 SISTERS: OLIVE WHITE OF SO. CHARLESTON, WV; VIRGINIA BONHAM OF CHARLESTON, WV; A NIECE WHO MADE HER HOME WITH THEM FOR SEVERAL YEARS: PHYLLIS ELKINS DANFORTH OF SPRINGFIELD, MO;
SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT THE FORKS OF COAL MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH, ALUM CREEK, ON FRIDAY, DECEMBER 10, 1997 AT 2:00 PM WITH REV. C. T. BULLINGTON, REV. JODY PISTORE, AND REV. GALE PAULEY OFFICIATING. ENTOMBMENT WILL BE HELD IN GRACELAND MEMORIAL PARK MAUSOLEUM, SO. CHARLESTON. GRAVESIDE RITES WILL BE GIVEN BY THE ALUM CREEK VFW POST X4768 AND BY THE GRIFFITHSVILLE MASONIC LODGE #71. FRIENDS MAY CALL ON THURSDAY, JANUARY 9, 1997 FROM 6 TO 8 PM AT THE FORKS OF COAL MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH, ALUM CREEK.
