GRANT A. CANTLEY, 85, OF LEXINGTON, NORTH CAROLINA, FORMERLY OF KANAWHA COUNTY, DIED SATURDAY, JANUARY 10, 1998 IN ROWAN MEDICAL CENTER, SALISBURY, NORTH CAROLINA, AFTER A LONG ILLNESS.
HE WAS A MEMBER OF JERSEY BAPTIST CHURCH, LEXINGTON, NORTH CAROLINA, A FORMER MEMBER AND SENIOR DEACON OF BRIAR CREEK BAPTIST CHURCH, BROUNLAND, WEST VIRGINIA AND WAS A CHOIR DIRECTOR FOR 50 YEARS. HE WAS A RETIRED MINE FOREMAN WITH CEDAR COAL COMPANY, CHELYAN, WEST VIRGINIA, A FIRST AID INSTRUCTOR FOR US DEPARTMENT OF MINES AND A CERTIFIED RED CROSS FIRST AID INSTRUCTOR.
HE IS SURVIVED BY HIS: WIFE: IO ASBURY CANTLEY; 3 DAUGHTERS: AVONELLE NEFF OF STACEY, NC; REGINA CHREST OF LEXINGTON, NC; DAWN ROSE OF ST. PETERSBURG, FL, 2 SONS: WALTER CANTLEY OF OXFORD, NC; MICHAEL CANTLEY OF LARGO, FL; 1 SISTER: PHYLLIS WILLIAMS OF ST. MARY’S, ID; 3 BROTHERS: CY CANTLEY OF PROCTORVILLE, OH; HOMER CANTLEY OF INDIANAPOLIS, IN; JACK CANTLEY OF WESTERVILLE, OH; 14 GRANDCHILDREN; 9 GREAT GRANDCHILDREN; 1 GREAT GREAT GRANDCHILD.
SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT CURRY FUNERAL HOME, ALUM CREEK, ON THURSDAY, JANUARY 15, 1998, AT 1:00 PM WITH REV. MORRIS HOLLIFIELD OFFICIATING. BURIAL HELD IN GRACELAND MEMORIAL PARK, SOUTH CHARLESTON. FRIENDS MAY CALL ON WEDNESDAY JANUARY 14, 1998 FROM 7 TO 9 PM AT THE FUNERAL HOME.
