February 14th, 2012 | Posted by curryfuneralhome in Obituaries

Linda Sue Dunlap 67, of Alum Creek passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2012 , just in time for morning service in heaven. She died at home after a long illness.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dillard Mark and Blanche Mortana Griffith McCormick, her life-long love Jerry Lee Dunlap and nephew (or third son) Daniel “Meathead” McCormick.

She was a member of the Alum Creek Church of Christ and a 1962 graduate of Duval High School. Linda was employed by the Diamond Department Store, Lincoln County Opportunity Council, and Kroger. She retired from Kroger in 1990. She also owned and operated a family restaurant, grocery store, and ceramic shop with her husband, Jerry. Linda and Jerry were best known for their open home to relatives or anyone else who needed a place to rest his or her head. Their Saturday night pizza parties were a community favorite in the Alum Creek area for children and adults. Her artistic talents were often displayed through her paintings and ceramic creations. Even though the last fourteen years of her life were filled with loss and illness, her grandchildren were always her inspiration. This was evident when she turned her home into “Granny’s Playhouse” filled with boats, pool tables, construction areas, movies, and their own art center. She will be best remembered for her generous nature, love for family, and sweet spirit.

She is survived by her two sons, Jay (Sonya) of Sod, Chris (Sarah) of Alum Creek, grandchildren, Weston and Gavin of Sod, Dylan and Mackenzie of Alum Creek, two brothers David McCormick of Sod and Michael(Diane) McCormick of Crystal River, Florida.

Service will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Minister Joseph Watts officiating. Burial will follow at Lively Cemetery Sod. Family and friends will gather from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Hey Chris and Jay just wanted to let you know that I was thinking about you. One of the worst feelings in the world is to realize mom and dad are both gone. Just wanted to tell you that God will see you through as He always does. Thank you for sharing the life of your beautiful sweet mom. She was a great Christian lady that I loved dearly. God Bless, Teddy
