James R. Cooper, 74, of Charleston died Saturday, January 22, 2000, at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston after a short illness.
He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, a W WII Army Veteran and was called the miracle man because he was the only survivor out of 254 men in a battle in Germany.
He is survived by his: 1 Son Terry Lee Cooper of Humcane, W V; 6 Daughters: Doris Jean Cooper of Cartersville, GA; Maxine Cooper of Dunkirk, IN; Sandra Cole of Cleveland, OH; Margaret Oxley of Davis Creek, WV; Carolyn Cooper of St. Albans, WV; Eva Lou Cooper of NC; 2 Sisters: Estel Wade of Griffithsville, WV; Virginia Griffith of Yawkey, WV; 5 Brothers: Jasper Cooper, Jr. of Yawkey, WV; George Cooper of Yawkey, WV; Rev. Bernard Cooper of Griffithsville, WV; Raymond Cooper of NC; Gene Cooper of Massillon, OH; 24 Grandchildren; 22 Great Grandchildren.
Services will be held at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, on Wednesday, January 26, 2000 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Oshel Bell officiating. Burial will be held in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey. Friends may call on Tuesday, January 25, 2000 from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.
