Bessie Marie Thornton May, 91, of Griffithsville, died October 6, 2005 at Lincoln Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Hamlin, after an extended illness.
Bessie was born October 30, 1913 in Big Creek, the daughter of the late Ed and Maggie Mason Thornton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Terri Lynn May; her twin brother, Jesse; brothers, Raymond (Page), Edmond (Chink) and Harry; sisters, Glenneth Smith (Rome), Guyneth Vandelinde (Ben), Mareda Hill (Jimmie) and Lori Adkins (Roy).
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Dean Teal of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware; grandson, Christopher Teal and wife, Juen also of Rehoboth Beach, and her husband of 66 yeazs, Major Harold F. May of Griffithsville.
In accordance with her often and forcefully expressed wishes, there will be no service or visitation.
Her earthly body will be cremated and her ashes will be inurned in the Columbarium at Arlington National Cemetery.
The family gives their heartfelt thanks to the dedicated staff at the Nursing Center who cared for “Miss Bessie” so professionally, tenderly and lovingly during her final days here on earth.
