Macy Brumfield Bell, 94, of Alum Creek, WV, passed from this earth on Monday, January 2, 2012, after a long beautiful life.

Macy was born on December 20, 1917, the daughter of B.W. “Bernie” and Goldie Young Brumfield of Griffithsville in Lincoln County. She was a child of the depression growing up on a farm with 13 other siblings. She graduated from Duval High School where she met and married a handsome young man, Rodney Rexford Bell, and they settled in Alum Creek, Kanawha County, to raise two daughters. In her last years she made her home with daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Doyle Hudson of Alum Creek. As her caregivers, they provided family members with comfort in knowing that she was cared for in her final years.

Macy was a member of the Oakwood Church of Christ and served the Lord over her many years. She was a true believer in the 4-H program and in her earlier years, she served as a leader of the local 4-H club.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband and 9 siblings: Beulah, Corbett, Cabell, Calvin, “Dyke”, Frank, Gary, Glenna, Bernie, Ralph and James Russel.

Left to cherish her in their hearts are her two daughters: Jane (Doyle) Hudson of Alum Creek and Judy Cox of Charleston. Macy was blessed with 5 grandchildren: Kathy Holtsclaw of St. Albans; Pamela Bailey (Thomas) of Partlow, VA; Julie Facemire (Lovell) of Elkview, Melinda “Mendy” Cox of South Charleston and Rodney Cox (Jennifer) of Walton. Additionally, she lived to cherish the joys of having five great grandchildren: James Bailey of Partlow, VA; Evan Bailey of Fredericksburg, VA, along with Gwendolyn, Madeline and Joscelyn Cox of Walton. Macy is also survived by four sisters: Eldona Rife, Betty McGraw, Eloise Fishback and Wilma Jean Dolan.

Service will be 11:00 am Friday, January 6, 2012 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Minister Jonathan Chaffin officiating. Burial will follow in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey. Family and friends will gather from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

While Macy loved flowers and they are appreciated, the family kindly requests that donations be made in her memory to the 4-H program at WVU Foundation, 1 Waterfront Place, Post Office Box 1650, Morgantown, WV 26507 or at www.development.ext.wvu.edu.
