Bobby Leo Adkins, 78, of Sod went home to be with God on Monday, March 26, 2018 after a long illness.
Bob retired from Appalachian Power Co., after which he and Kathy traveled cross country many times. He loved to read and work puzzles and was an endless source of knowledge.
Bob served in the U. S. Marine Corp., afterward he attended Bible College and also earned his pilots license. He attended McCorkle Freewill Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Romie and Martha Adkins; brothers, Charles, Frank, Fred, Calvin and James Adkins; and sister, Mary Rutledge.
Bob is survived by his wife of 22 years, Kathy; daughter, Nisa Adkins and wife, Cindy; step-sons, Bobby (Wanda) Cooper and Rodney (Jenny) Cooper; step-daughter, Melinda (Tommy) Lyons; brothers, Terry (Jean) and Bill (Pat) Adkins; sister, Rose (George) Shaffer; grandchildren, Samantha Sanchez and Jordan Kaelin; step-grandchildren, Shantel and Dakota Cooper and Zachary and Nick Lyons; great grandchildren, Erin Clanin, Ruby Sanchez, Gabriel and Catalena Kaelin; and step great grandson, Oakley Pierce.
Service will be 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 30, 2018 at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastors Isaiah Hatfield and Frank Chapman officiating.
Military Honors conducted by the U. S. Marine Corp will immediately follow the service at the funeral home.
The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
We would like to express a special thank you to Stephanie Wright, Linda Vickers, Nancy Pauley, Jerry Allen, Terry and Jean Adkins and Heidi for all their help and care of Bob.
Kathy and Nisa, you are in our thoughts and prayers everyday. You are both free as well as this was trying in both your lives. Kathy you need to focus on your health and mental well being. You have truly become an angel in getting him through to the other side which is beautiful and he will be their waiting when it is your turn to pass. Not soon I hope.
John, Johnnie and Kristen whish we could be their for you and too give you a great big hug.

Sorry to learn of the death of a childhood friend , I have great memories of grade school and going to their farm to play games.
