Larry Allen Sutphin, 73, of Hurricane, formerly of Tornado, passed away at home Thursday, October 19, 2017 surrounded by his loving family after a long illness.

He was born on November 20, 1943 in Mt. Carbon, Fayette County, WV to the late Ira and Matilda Kidd Sutphin.

Larry was a 1961 graduate of Duval High School and continued his education at Penn State.

He married the love of his life, Ann Chandler and thru much sadness and heartbreak they never parted for 54 years. Till death do us part.

Larry was preceded in death by his two loving sons, Brian Wesley and Larry Jr.; grandson, Aaron Combs; and 3 month old great grandson, Wesley Craig.

He was a Christian and a member of the Independent Missionary Baptist Church of Alum Creek.

Larry was an Air Force Veteran serving during the Vietnam Era.

He loved spending time hunting, fishing and talking with his late brothers, Melvin and Kennith.

Larry loved music and singing. He sang to anyone who would listen.

He is survived by his loving wife, Ann; beautiful daughter, Donna (Kirby) Simmons; brothers, Ira (Brenda) and Gordon; sister, Margaret Payne; babydolls, Kristen (Seth) Thornton, Jamie Craig and Heather Patton; grandson, Cameron Simmons; 16 great grandchildren who always put a smile on his face; and sister-in-law, Lenora.

He was loved by his “outlaw” family, the Chandler’s, and he loved each of them.

A memorial gathering of family and friends will be held Sunday, October 22, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek.

A celebration of Larry’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 23, at the Independent Missionary Baptist Church, 2309 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastors Frank Chapman and Daniel Dent officiating.

Larry will be laid to rest with his boys at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens in Yawkey with military graveside rites conducted by the Alum Creek VFW Post 4768.

The family would like to thank hospice nurses, Erin, Holly, Britany and most of all Kristen and Donna for their care.

“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes and death shall be no more. Neither shall there be mourning or crying nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” Revelation 21:4

Larry will be in our hearts forever.

Deepest Sympathy to Larry’s family. We were neighbors to Larry and his family when we lived on Snowden Rd. His brother Kenneth was in my class of 1957 at Duval, brother Melvin was in my brother Jim’s class of 1959 and Larry was in my sister Joyce’s class of 1961.They were great neighbors. I wish the family strength as you go forward.
