Dan Brogan PhotoDan “Wilbur” Brogan, age 66, of Seebert, WV, formerly of Alum Creek, passed away on Monday, April 10, 2017 at Pocahontas Memorial Hospital.  Dan was born July 9, 1950 in Charleston, WV.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Webb & Myrtle Brogan and sister, Linda Brogan.

A long-time Union Carbide employee, Dan retired to Pocahontas County along the Greenbrier River.  Dan never met a stranger and was well-known for his giving nature and helping heart.  He was known for always having a smile and everyone he met was instructed immediately to call him “Uncle Dan” as if they were a part of the family.  No matter where he went, he always knew someone and had a story to tell.  He enjoyed nothing more than hunting, fishing and gardening with his best friend Elwood Whitlock.  He liked to sit by the Greenbrier River in the “Chicken Hut” to relax and visit with the friends and tourists alike.  Dan’s passing has left a void in all who knew and loved him that can never be filled.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Marlington, WV, and was a 1970 graduate of GW High School where he was class president.

Dan is survived by his long-time partner Beverly Eads; son Calvin (Norma) Brogan of South Charleston; daughter, Melissa Chandler of Alum Creek;  and nephews that Dan and his former wife, JoEllen raised from their childhood, Tony (Jessica) Stewart and Justin Stewart; along with the loving children of Beverly, Michelle (Robert) Sharp and Lance Eads.  He is also survived by his brothers, Ezra “Blackie” Brogan and Timmy (Connie) Brogan and his sister, Sue Brogan; five grandchildren, Brittany (Brent) Griffith, Allison (Shaun) Adams, Jeffrey Allen, Logan and Cierra; and three great-grandchildren, Beckett and Brinley Griffith and Allie Stewart, and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be 1:00pm Saturday, April 15, 2017, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating.  Friends and family will gather from 11:00am to 1:00pm prior to the service.

A memorial service will also be held in Pocahontas County at a later date.

My heart and deepest sympathies to you and your family during this difficult time.  I know the heartbreak and pain of losing a loved one in death so I wanted to take a moment to share an encouraging scripture that gives me much hope.  1 Corinthians 15:26 “And the last enemy, death, is to be brought to nothing.”  When we lose someone in death our heavenly Father sees the pain we feel and he promises to very soon do away with this wicked enemy of ours once and for all.  And then he promises the most beautiful hope, to bring back to life all our dear loved ones and to reunite them with us again!  What a beautiful promise of comfort and hope and how we long for that truly special day so close at hand.

Dan was one of a kind. He was kind, caring, gentle, funny, loved his family, friends and could light up hearts with his smile. His obituary is beautiful. A wonderful tribute to the man he was. He will always live in my memories. I met Dan when he was13 and I was 12. He was my first puppy-love. We were best friends thur high school. My mom (RIP) always loved Dan like a son. She used to tease him and call him, Oh, Danny Boy. He would flash that big beautiful smile, laugh and give her a big hug. Dan will be missed by all who had their lives touched by him.
My Sympathy, Condolence, and Prayers to Dan’s family. I will keep you in my prayers, Susie. God be with you and give you comfort and strength.

Dan was many things, but foremost he was great family man and a very hard worker. He played just as hard as he worked. He will surely be missed by family, friends and the Seebert, WV. community. He loved the Greenbrier River and all that the river offered.

Condolences to his and Bev’s families.

Love and hugs to Dan’s family and friends. He was one of the first people my husband and I met during our many trips to Seebert. He always brought a smile to our faces when we’d hear him yell Dan the Man at my husband. He was the kind of person you felt you had known forever. He will be greatly missed by everyone.

What a beautiful obituary. Dan would be so proud, and yes he absolutely loved people and loved to tell stories. Would lend a hand regardless of what you were doing. Raised a beautiful garden and loved to can what he raised. We have lost a great man that will truly be missed by the entire community. Thank you for being a terrific neighbor but most of all a wonderful friend. Tom and Teeni
