Ricky E. Marker, 56, of South Charleston, WV went to be with the Lord Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at CAMC Memorial Hospital in Charleston after a short illness.
He was vice president of Garcie R. Marker & Sons, Inc. He was a tireless worker and hardly ever took a day off work. Ricky was a mediator, always wanting to make peace and a 1977 graduate of George Washington High School.
Ricky was a friend to everyone, he loved spending time with his dogs. He loved riding dirt bikes with his friends, known as “The Brier Creek Ruff Riders”, and until recently never missed a Sunday riding. Ricky loved riding the Olcott trails, helping name two of the trails: The Red Fender Hill, where he lost his red fender, and also Rick’s Pipeline. It was his desire that his remains be placed on these trails. Rick had a witty sense of humor, a unique voice and memorable laugh. He was a meticulous record keeper, having lists and notes for everything. Rick loved to fish and frequented most of the small privately-owned ponds in the Alum Creek area.
He is survived by his companion of 18 years, Heidi Stoeke; son, Michael Ball (Chrissy Cochran); parents, Garcie and Geraldine Marker; brothers, Allen (Tami) Marker and Steven Marker (Laura Stover); nieces, Autumn Humphreys, McKenzie Marker and Stevie-Lynn Marker; and nephew, Seth Marker.
A memorial service will be 7:00 p.m. Friday, October 2, 2015 at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastor Ron Scott officiating. The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association, 1248 Greenbrier Street, Charleston, WV 25311.

Dear Garcie and family,
I’m sincerely and deeply saddened over Rick’s passing. My working relationship with you was professional and friendly as I recall the many conversations we had on the AML project sites, especially with Rick and Allen. Although I can’t say anything to ease the pain and loss you feel, time and faith in God will. May God bless you all.

Charles and I are so very sorry for your loss. We love you both and know how much your family means to you. Continue prayers for your family.
I’m Richard Marker, son of Brady Marker who was a brother of Rick’s grandfather, Ray Marker. I’m Rick’s second cousin. I didn’t know Rick well, but I did have the opportunity of seeing him in action when he put in a new sidewalk at my house in South Charleston. As has been previously stated by others, Rick was a hard worker (a Garcie Marker family tradition) and obviously enjoyed working. Rick was a craftsman. I had numerous compliments on how good the sidewalk looked. I always replied to these by saying that I had my cousin and his crew to thank for that.
I wish to extend my most sincere sympathies to Geraldine, Garcie and all of Rick’s family and loved ones.
Dear Garcie & Gerry, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Our prayers and sincerest sympathies are with you and the family. May God’s peace bring you comfort during this difficult time.
Love, Susie (Clark) Williams

It’s been many years since I last saw Ricky. We were still kids. To this day I could have picked him out of a room.
It’s hard to let anyone go but you never expect it to be your own child. I know someday we will see him again in
heaven. What a reunion that will be with all the Brogans, Markers, Painters Mears and Dunnings. I love you all.
Sending much prayer, hugs and kisses your way.

I was very upset today when I read the obituaries and discovered Rick had passed away. I met Rick for the first time four or five years ago at one of our estate sales. I immediately realized what a tender heart Rick had as I watched him help people that he didn’t know load items into their vehicles. I always looked forward to seeing his warm and friendly smile as he got out of that big red truck with Heidi. I can also recall Rick giving away his purchase to a complete stranger because they commented on how much they liked the item he had found. This world has lost a wonderful soul and I will sadly miss his friendship. I pray that God watches out for Heidi, Mike and the rest of his family during this difficult time. I thank you Rick for setting a wonderful example for all of us to follow. Jeff Northcutt

Rick was a great person.
Garcie Marker & Family,
So sorry for you loss. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

We are so sorry for your loss. Rick was an awesome neighbor who helped everyone that needed it. My grandmother, Betty Creech, when she had the plumbing problems and with her pool pump. He never would charge her so she would make him chocolate turtles. He always took care of the road with gravel, was friendly with everyone. He leveled out our property so we could build a house. I would always meet him coming back from dropping off my kids at school while he was on his way to work. He’d try to pull over but I’d let him go since he was going to work and I was just going home. He always had a smile. You could tell he loved Heidi just when he’d say her name, he’d have that twinkle in his eyes. I’m just so sad for the whole Marker family. They all are great folks and neighbors. Rick will be sorely missed by everyone out here and it will never be the same. -merri
