Mayme Louisa Keeling Zirkle, 77, of Sumerco was born 5 August 1936 and passed peacefully in her sleep Thursday morning at home on Keeling Ridge due to the chronic complications of rheumatoid arthritis.
Mayme was born, raised her children and cared for her parents at the family property on Keeling Road. She was an avid bowler, fisherman and hunter before her illness of 23 years. The last few years of her condition she cared for her husband as he dealt with Alzheimer’s. Paul died on 23 January 2011. Mayme’s niece, Pam, was with her when she died. Throughout her illness Mayme never lost her ability to laugh or to be honest. Most people called her a “straight shooter”.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Paul Zirkle; parents W. C. and Gertie McClure Keeling; siblings, Dessie, Norine, Cecil, Okey, Betty, Asa, Wynoka and Mae Keeling. Also, Mayme lost two brothers in WWII, Clifford Keeling and Eugene McClure.
Mayme is survived by her sisters, Mary and Phyllis of Sumerco; sons, Mark of Sumerco and Tim (Denis) of Texas; special nieces, Debbie Hudson and Pam Thompson of Sumerco; sister-in-law, Joyce Zirkle Bailey of Alum Creek and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 3 pm Sunday, June 15, at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will follow in Lively Cemetery, Sod. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Your mother is irreplaceable. Hold close the beautiful memories you have of her and your father. They are together once again.
