Charles L. Sigmon, aka Papaw Charlie, 80, was born on Feb. 2, 1933 and raised in Julian, WV. Papaw went to be with the Lord Thursday, August 15, 2013 at the Hubbard Hospice House with his beloved wife and children by his side.
Papaw Charlie was a former underground deep miner, who worked long hard hours to provide for his family. The many joys of his life, aside from his loving wife, Laura Ellen of 59 years, were his grandchildren, great and great great grandchildren, dear friends, traveling the country and his coon hunting dogs.
Papaw was always full of laughter and could spin a tale so quick and with the most sincere face that you could never tell if he was teasing or not. Because of this, he was a charter member of “The Liars Club” at Hess Garage and a permanent position with “The Alum Creek Front Porch Gang”. If you were lucky enough to have known him like Jimmy Atkins and so many other dear friends, to many to mention, you knew you had one of the greatest friends for life!
Papaw Charlie was preceded in death by his son, Charles Junior; parents, Charlie and Marie Tyler Sigmon; brother, Romie Steve Sigmon; two sisters, Ina Irene Atkins and Wanda (Don) Turner; and great grandson, Crae Allen Justice.
He is survived by his precious and loving wife, Laura Ellen; children, Terry Sigmon (Rose McFarland), Debbie Sigmon, Bonnie (David) Williams, JoAnn (Clarence) Myers; grandchildren, Shawn (Allen) Justice, Danielle (Jeff) Thompson, Chasity (Mark) Cantrell, Davena (Jimmy) Hughes, Draunta (Jamie) Dorsey and Beth (Paul) Rucker; sisters, Maxine Black and Anita (Ron) Ripper;
twelve great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren and a whole host of family and friends.
The family gives a very special thank you to all the Hospice staff for their tender loving care.
Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Monday, August 19th at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, with Pastors Dan McCormick and Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will follow in Forks of Coal Memorial Park, Alum Creek. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
So sorry about Charlie. He was a great guy,and always had a smile on his face. You could always count on him to make you laugh. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.
