Billy Gene Hager, 78, of Hurricane, born May 30, 1930, son of Gladys E. Ryan and Edison W. Hager, entered into eternal rest on September twenty-ninth, the year of our Lord two thousand and eight.
After graduation from Hamlin High School in 1949 as an Honor Student, Bill served in the U.S. Marine Corp. in the capacity of sergeant during the Korean Conflict. He retired with 32 years service as a machinist with Union Carbide and Rhone Poulenc. Billy truly loved his fellow man and served many years as a representative of his Local Union 656 Machinist and AFL-CIO and on the Board of Directors of United Way in West Virginia and other community services. He was a member of Hurricane First Church of the Nazarene and was loved by many.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years Cleta Moore Hager; daughters, Sonora Winds and Jenny Hager Johnson (Dennis); son, Rev. Edison W. Hager (Carol); grandchildren, Callie Elizabeth and Samuel Ryan Hager; brothers, James D. Hager and Charles T. Woodall; nephews, James D. Hager, II and Charles E. Hager.
Service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 3, 2008 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Phillip Bower officiating. Burial will be held in Lawson Family Cemetery, Hamlin. A visitation for friends and family will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
We would like to thank all of the medical personnel at Frecenius Center for their dedication and loving care as part of our extended family as well as Putnam General – CAMC nurses and doctors, Kanawha Putnam Ambulance Services who went above and beyond in their care to us all. Thank you for the many midnight cups of coffee, hugs and moral support. Our special neighbors who have held us close and gathered all loose ends in the past and the present.
