John W. Solberg, 65, of Charleston, West Virginia, passed away peacefully at home on October 29, 2026.
John was the proud owner of John Solberg Plumbing, Heating and Cooling. He served as an elder at Rock Lake Presbyterian Church, where he attended. He was a very kindhearted, thoughtful, and giving person. He never met a stranger and was able to carry on a conversation with anyone about anything. He loved family gatherings and spending time at the shooting range. He enjoyed gardening with his wife, collecting guns, and attending auctions. He loved camping and side-by-side riding with his son Nick. He had an eye for deals, most commonly at Piggly Wiggly, Kroger, and his favorite, the Dollar Tree. Being a father and a grandfather brought much joy to his life.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ernst Solberg, his mother, Madaline Solberg, both of South Charleston, and his sister, Margaret Ann Jarrell of Beckley, WV.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marlene Solberg, his son, Nick Lacy (Melissa), his grandson, Colin Graley and granddaughter, Emma Lacy, his brother-in-law/best friend, Gary Jarrell, nephews, Gary Jarrell, Jason Jarrell, and niece, Julie Eastman, and his fur babies, Willow, Tucker and Paisley.
He will be remembered for his great generosity. He was always willing to offer a helping hand to those in need. Whether it be his family, friends or someone he barely knew or to simply remember someone on his many trips to the store.
Viewing will be Monday, November 2, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm with memorial service following at 7:00 pm. Viewing and memorial service will be held at Rock Lake Presbyterian Church, South Charleston, WV, with Pastor David Bragg officiating. Curry Funeral Home, of Alum Creek, WV, is assisting the family with the services.

I am so sorry to hear this. I knew John thru the Presbyterian Youth Council. We attended many retreats together, and once, he literally gave me the shirt off his back. It was an older youth retreat shirt from before I came on, and I was admiring it. He took it off and handed it to me! (and I wore it for years) I am very sorry for your family’s loss.
John was a man of Faith, a generous sole and very thoughtful in dealing with folks. I knew John at Rock Lake Presbyterian Church, as Session Member, Professionally in my work as Facility Director, as a customer and most importantly, a friend. John was extremely intelligent like his Dad-Ernie and loved helping others and sharing all that was important to him.. I am praying for Marlene and Nick and extend my sincere feelings of sadness and shock to all who knew John.
John was a good man . He could talk for hours about many subjects. He was highly intelligent. He new his job from the front to back. I had not seen him for a few years. Didn’t know of any problems. Really sorry to hear of his passing.
