October 25th, 2026 | Posted by curryfuneralhome in Obituaries

Sherry Lynn (Miller) Runyon, 79, of Alkol, West Virginia, went home to be with Jesus on Friday, October 23, 2026. Born on July 27, 1947, in South Charleston, West Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Woodrow Miller and Betty Miller.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 61 years, Kenneth Ray Runyon; her mother, Betty Miller; her daughter, Ronda (Rusty) Akers; and her son, Richard (Nikki) Runyon. She is also survived by her granddaughters, Tyler (Chase) Johnston and Ella Akers; her grandsons, Russ (Madison) Akers, Elijah Akers, and Gabriel Akers; her great-grandsons, Radford and Judson Akers; and her great-granddaughter, Palmer Johnston. Other loved ones who cherish her memory include her sister, Cathi (Mike) Davis; her brothers, Kelly (Gayle) Miller and Larry (Debbie) Miller; her brothers-in-law, Gail (Joan) Runyon, Louie (Connie) Runyon, Johnny (Debbie) Runyon, and JB (Linda) Runyon; her sisters-in-law, Dottie (Fred) Snodgrass and Phylis Neeley; and many nieces and nephews.

Sherry was a member of Sycamore Grove Missionary Baptist Church for many years and later attended Beech Grove Missionary Baptist. When their health allowed, she and Kenneth enjoyed visiting and attending many other churches over the years. She had several special friends who checked on her regularly and shared meals with her and dad. We are very thankful for your kindness and generosity.

Known to many as “Miss Sherry,” she served as a kindergarten aide in the Lincoln County school system for 34 years. She always enjoyed encountering former students who still greeted her as “Miss Sherry,” whether she was shopping or at a doctor’s appointment. She loved making her famous peanut butter fudge and school days pickles to share with family and friends. Above all, she loved her grandchildren and great-grandsons with her whole heart and delighted in spoiling them.

Service will be at 12:00pm, Thursday, October 29, 2026, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastors Don Tabor and John Helvey officiating. Burial will follow at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey. Friends and family will gather one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Kenny, Ronda and Richie Sherry was a very good lady. I worked with her at Woodville for a while. I also remember her working in your grandparents ice cream shop. We were allowed to leave school and cross the road to buy ice cream. She always had a smile for all of the kids. She will be greatly missed
