He was born in South Charleston to Hugh and Louise Jones. He was a 1981 Graduate of Duval High School. After graduating he moved to Alabama, then Texas. He traveled to 40 states working as an electrician contractor. He moved back to WV in 1996 and began working the family tobacco farm again while continuing his electrical career. He once said that when he moved to Alabama, he never wanted to put his hands in dirt again. He was thankful that work moved him back home to his deep connection to the land and animals. He retired from AC&S in Nitro WV, his most favorite employer and co-workers.

He is preceded in death by his parents Hugh&Louise, brother Ralph Jones, Sister-in-law Sherry Jones and Stepson Bobby Fields.

He is survived by his wife Paula Turley Jones, brothers Olin Jones, Keith (Rita) Jones, sister Sheila (Jarrett) Jamison of Morgantown WV. Many nieces & nephews, Sister-in-law Debbie (CW) Sigman of South Charleston, Nephews Bryant Jones, Jeremy Jones, Jarrett Jamison, Brad Linville, Joshua Boggs, Adam Boggs, Bryce Boggs, nieces Ashley Jamison, Jessica Owens, Gariann Boggs, Allyson Foster, Jennifer Sigman, Lilly Boggs, Diantha Smith, Miranda Jarrell and Isabella Jarrell.

His homestead was important to him, and he loved working cattle and being a farmer. He was a hard worker and was always willing to help his neighbors and anyone in need. Alan loved going to church and his church family at McCorkle Freewill Baptist Church, Sod WV, and faithfully attended. The family will forever be grateful for the heroic efforts of the Ashley Furniture staff at Southridge, all EMS and paramedics of the South Charleston and Kanawha County ambulance authority, and the staff of CAMC Memorial for giving every effort to save his life.

Services will be 11:00AM, Saturday, January 24, 2026, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, WV with Pastor Isiah Hatfield officiating. Friends and family will gather one hour prior to the service.
