Barbra Estelle LeRoy Bennett, 92, of Charleston, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on September 17, 2024, surrounded by her beloved family after a brief illness. Born on August 4, 1932, she was the cherished eldest daughter of the late Alfred J. LeRoy and Mary Argenbright LeRoy.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, Barbra’s life was a testament to love and joy. She delighted in meeting her four great-great-grandchildren: Juniper “Juni” Fleenor, Lincoln Fleenor, Hudsyn “Huddy” Daniel, and Aeryn McClanahan. Their presence brought her immense happiness.
After graduating from Stonewall Jackson High School, Barbra dedicated most of her life to being a homemaker, and later, when her children were grown, she worked at Angela’s Pizza in Dunbar. Her unwavering faith and musical talents enriched many lives, as she served numerous churches in the valley. Barbra’s gift for music shone through her skilled piano, organ, and accordion playing, and her beautiful voice touched the hearts of all who heard her.
Preceding her in death are her beloved husband, Omer E. Bennett, Jr., her siblings Alfred LeRoy, Mary Ann Burgess, and Mickey LeRoy, and her two grandsons-in-law, Matt Daniel and Danny Wilson.
Barbra is survived by her children, Omer E. “Eddie” (Sarita) Bennett, III, of Charleston, Terry (Lynn) Bennett of Alexandria, KY, and Renee Bennett of Charleston. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her grandchildren Jennifer (John) Taylor of Grundy, VA, Beth (Bryan) Hoylman of Charleston, Sarah Leigh (Steve) Runyon of Peytona, and Justin Bennett of Alexandria, KY. Her great-grandchildren include Logan (Hannah) Fleenor, Ryan (Taylor) Fleenor, Dutch (Cheyanne) Fleenor, William “Billy” (Brooke) Grass, Layne (Mackenzie) Daniel, Christian Wilson, Leah Wilson, Amber (Dallas) McClanahan, and John “Jet” Taylor. Barbra is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service will be held for the family with Reverend Rick Gardner of Davis Creek Church of the Nazarene officiating.
Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, WV has been caring for families since 1950.
I send condolences to Barbra’s family. She was a very dear friend to me for many years. She was a loving mother, devout Christian, and talented singer and musician. I loved her so much. She will be missed,
So sorry for your loss
