Mary Elizabeth Tiller, 99, of South Charleston, gained her heavenly wings while at home on Sunday, July 28, 2024.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband James, son Jeff, parents Frank (Poppy Doc) and Susie (Nanny) Taylor, brothers James, Bob, Buck, and Joe Taylor, sister Virginia “Ruth” Jones, and daughter in law Patty.

Mary is survived by sons Jim, Paul (Stephanie), and Charlie, 11 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, and many special nieces and nephews.

Mary was a member of the Eastern Star and D.O.A.

Mary was a personal shopper at the Diamond Department Store for many years. When it closed, she worked for the state at the DMV where she retired.

After retirement she found she wanted to help others, so she worked as a home health aide.

Mary loved to watch football and baseball and was very present at games either in the stands or working concession.

Mary was a very avid reader and once she retired it wasn’t uncommon for her to read a book a day. She also loved gardening and every flower and plant she touched thrived.

Mary also loved an adventure. On her 90th birthday she was in Hawaii and ziplined over 3000 feet.

Mary loved her family most of all. The grandchildren are going to miss her lap that they so lovingly climbed on to receive lots of hugs and kisses. She will be missed by all.

The family would like to extend a special Thank You to her hospice care she received in her final days.

Funeral services will be held at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek, Monday, August 5, 2024, at 2:00 with friends and family gathering one hour prior. Pastor Mark Thaxton will be officiating.
