William L. “Bill” Thomas, 75, of Sissonville died Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston after a long illness. He was preceded in death by his parents: Delmar and Margaret Thomas and two sisters: Margaret (Peggy) Jenkins and Nancy Eskew.
Bill graduated from Washington District High School, attended Morris Harvey College and was a graduate of West Virginia University. He was a Golden Legion Member of Phi Delta Theta and avid supporter of the Mountaineers. He retired from Union Carbide after 30 plus years as a professional mechanical engineer. He was a founding member of the West Virginia Greyhound Owners & Breeders Association where he served as president and board member. He also was a member of the National Greyhound Association. He was an avid fisherman, member of the Bass Masters Association and Three Rivers Bass Club. He also served in the Army and Army Reserve. He is survived by his wife of 50 years; Barbara, 3 daughters: Colleen Thomas Resley (Todd) of Daniels, WV, Teresa Thomas of Charleston, South Carolina and Deborah Schweizer (Bill) of Wheeling, WV. 2 Grandchildren: Jacob and Jaclyn Schweizer of Wheeling, WV. Brother: Richard Thomas (Delores) of Maryville, Tennessee. Sister Patricia Racer of Fairlea, WV and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be 2 PM Saturday at Cunningham Memorial Park, Upper Mausoleum in St. Albans with Pastor Robert (Butch) Leadman officiating.
