Julia Virginia (McCown) Clements

October 6th, 2023 | Posted by curryfuneralhome in Obituaries

Julia Virginia (McCown) Clements, 76, of Charleston, passed away Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at the home of her daughter, Annette Rader-Cameron, in Columbus, Ohio.

Julia was born in South Charleston, WV to parents, Ira McCown and Julia McCown in 1947. She was known to some of her friends as “Jules”. She was funny, feisty, hardworking and a fan of 4 letter words. Julia enjoyed politics and worked a few sessions with the WV Legislature, volunteering as a poll worker in her spare time. She wore many work hats and was known for her “Heinz 57” work ethic. She was extremely talented when it came to needlework. She would spend many evenings and weekends in her sewing room that she and her husband wallpapered in the strawberries that she adored. She used her talent in sewing to earn money at home, eventually opening a bridal shop with a friend called “The Bridal and Party Directory”. While the shop eventually closed, she continued doing what she loved for friends and family for a time. Her last working position was with Jackson Kelly.

Julia had many hobbies, but she worked tirelessly on family genealogy that filled her evenings after work and once she retired. She met new, extended family members and enjoyed keeping up with them on Facebook. She never met anyone she didn’t like and would give to anyone that needed her. She loved all types of music. She was an avid reader of fiction and would read right before bed. She enjoyed watching classic movies and crime shows like NCIS. Her favorite animals were dogs and she owned many over the years. But there was something about Loki. She immediately fell in love with a picture of this stray puppy and was heartbroken when she could no longer care for him. She and Loki had such a special bond.

Over the past couple of years, she was cared for by her daughter Annette in Columbus, OH and with the help of hospice, Julia was not alone as she passed peacefully with her hand held.

Julia was preceded in death by her husband, Charles A. Clements; her parents; and two infant sons, Charles, Jr. and Timothy.

She is survived by her sister, Gretchen (Harold) Stinnett of Roanoke, VA; daughters, Annette Rader-Cameron and Robin Duncan; sons, Randall (Stephanie) Clements and Jeffrey (Marcie) Clements; fourteen grandchildren; two great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Funeral service will be 3:00 pm, Sunday, October 8, 2023, at Curry Funeral Home with Pastor Craig Gillenwater officiating. Burial will follow at Eastwood Family Cemetery, South Charleston. Visitation will be 5-7 pm, Saturday, October 7, 2023, and 2 hours prior to the service on Sunday.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to HospiceCare, 1606 Kanawha Blvd. W, Charleston, WV 25312 or National Church Residence Hospice, 2245 Northbanks Drive, Columbus, OH 43220.

We send our deepest sympathies to Robin, Randy and your entire family. We continue to lift each of you up in prayer for strength, peace and comfort in the days, weeks and months to come.
We had a strong friendship with your mother for years and she was such a blessing to us and to others. She and John’s mother, Marie, had a special bond when they co-owned and worked together at The Bridal and Party Directory.
Our deepest condolences,
John and Cidney Keith
