Gary E. Byrd, 76, of Nitro passed away peacefully at his home on January 16, 2023.
He served in the US Army as a SP5 Sergeant and a sharpshooter. He willingly served and did one tour of duty in Vietnam.
He was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all. He is survived by his wife, Sharon, of 54 years; sons, Gary W. (Shawn), of South Charleston, Mike of Clendenin, Eric (Dreanna) of Nitro; daughter, Crystal (Wayne) of Nitro; brothers, Gene (Dorothy) of South Charleston and Paul of Haughton, LA; 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral service will be 11:30 a.m., Thursday, January 19, 2023, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Mark Thaxton officiating. Burial will follow at Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, Dunbar. Friends and family will gather one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses at Kanawha Hospice for the care and comfort over the last few weeks.

Dear family, love and prayers for all of you. Gary,Dreama, Jimmy, Barbara and myself all were a couple years apart. When we would visit out there we had a great time together.
