Chester Wayne “Chuck” Cyrus

Chester Wayne “Chuck” Cyrus, 73, of Griffithsville, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 1st, 2022, surrounded by his family. He was born on February 8th, 1949, to Charles “Boose” and Elva “Eke” Cyrus of St. Albans, West Virginia. Chuck had five siblings; Charles, Sharon, Eugene “Gener”, Rodger, and Randy Cyrus.

Chuck served in the United States Marine Corps from 1968 to 1974. He was an Engineer Equipment Mechanic and served as a Combat Aircrew member in the Vietnam War until 1973. Throughout his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, the Rifle Expert Badge, the Viet Nam Service Medal, the Viet Nam Campaign Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal and the Combat Aircrew Insignia. Following his service to his country, Chuck spent several years as a coal miner and worked for the United States Postal Service until retirement.

Chuck married the love of his life, Janet Rose Cash, in 1970. The two of them raised their sons, Chester Wayne “Chucky” Cyrus and Brian Anthony Cyrus in Griffithsville, West Virginia. Chuck was a devoted grandfather to 9 grandchildren. He was an avid outdoorsman. He spent countless days in the mountains, hunting and fishing, with family and friends. In his last months, Chuck was able to revisit his favorite hunting spots in the mountains and fulfill his lifelong dream of seeing Yellowstone National Park.

Chuck is preceded in death by his parents Charles Raymond and Elva Ethel (Adkins) Cyrus; brothers Rodger Dean Cyrus, Charles Ray Cyrus, and Davie Eugene Cyrus. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Janet Rose Cyrus; sons Chester Wayne “Chucky” Cyrus of Grifftithsville and Brian Anthony (Emily) Cyrus of Sod; siblings Randy Lee Cyrus of Tornado and Sharon Lynn (Jon) Loftis of Scott Depot; grandchildren Ashley Nichole Cyrus, Andrew Trenton Cyrus, Alayna Rose Cyrus, Aliyah Nicole Cyrus, Brian Joseph Cyrus, Aidan Wayne Cyrus, Anthony Wayne Cyrus, Josie Rose Cyrus, and Adeley Bo Cyrus. He also leaves behind a host of family and friends to cherish his memory. Chuck faithfully lived his life for his family, friends, God and country.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, October 15, 2022, at Griffith Cemetery on Parsons Ridge/Browns Creek, St. Albans with Pastor Richard Ruby, Pastor Richard McCallister, and Reverend Ford officiating. The family will also be honoring the lives of Chuck’s brothers, Charles Ray Cyrus and Rodger Dean Cyrus, at this time.
