James “Bump” Vandale, 70, of Charleston, WV, passed away Saturday, May 9, 2020 at CAMC-Memorial Division. He is predeceased by his father, Jesse L. Vandale.
Jim retired as a manager for Allied Warehousing, and he was a Vietnam Veteran receiving three purple hearts. He also was a former Foodland store manager at South Charleston and Yawkey.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Carol Cash Vandale, daughters, Kelly (Jason) Varney and Tracy (Tyler) Arkell, son, James (Kelly) Vandale, grandsons, Chase and Dylan Arkell, and granddaughter, Halli Vandale. He is also survived by his mother, Genivieve Vandale, brothers, William “Bill” (Kathy) Vandale, Steve (Shelly) Vandale and David (Leslie) Vandale.
A private burial service will be Wednesday, May 13, 2020, at the Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, Dunbar, WV. Full military honors will be scheduled at a later date.
The family would like to thank the ER staff at CAMC-Memorial for their compassion and care.

We had the pleasure of meeting you and Jim while in Charleston visiting Duwane and Connie! You both were always so welcoming and Natalie loved coming up to play with Haley! Jim was such a kind soul. We will be keeping you and the rest of your family in our thoughts and prayers!
Words cannot describe what we are feeling. We will never forget the kindness, thoughtfulness and advise that Jim always showed to Duwane and I. We was surely blessed with amazing neighbors . Duwane looked up to Jim and thought so much of him.

As a fellow Veteran, it is always sad to hear of the passing of such a Great American Hero like Mr. Vandale. I have no doubt that anybody he came in contact with during his life became a little better person as a result.

I worked with Jim at Allied Warehouse. He taught me what a gig line was, I will always remember the pride he took in everything he did. I am sure he will be greatly missed by his family my prayers are with you.
