Buddie M. Snodgrass

Buddie M. Snodgrass, 72 of Charleston went home to the Lord Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at Hubbard Hospice House Charleston.   Buddie was born January 15, 1937 in Kanawha County.  He was a retired pipefitter from Union Carbide with 34 years of service.  Bud was a loving husband, father, grandpa and friend.  He loved the outdoors especially his time at camp in Sugar Grove, WV.  He is the son of the late Rudolph Monroe Snodgrass and Rhoda M. Snodgrass

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Donald Ray Snodgrass and Morris O. Snodgrass, and son, Donald Ray Snodgrass.   Survived by a loving family including his beloved wife of  51 ½ years, Shirley Mae Snodgrass, daughter Kimberly Lynn (Tom) Strain, South Charleston, sons: Jeffrey Monroe Snodgrass and companion Holly McClanahan of Charleston; Phillip Wayne (Brenda) Snodgrass, South Charleston, grandsons: Robert Fulks, South Charleston, Joshua Fulks, Charleston, Brandon Kinsey, Greensboro, NC, Shane Snodgrass, South Charleston, Zachary  Snodgrass, South Charleston, granddaughter Holley  Snodgrass, South Charleston, great granddaughters Learik  Fulks, Macee Fulks, South Charleston, two step-grandsons, two step-granddaughters and seven step-greatgrandchildren.  He is also survived by his brothers, Ernie (Pam) Snodgrass, Hurricane; Joe Snodgrass, Santa Rosa Beach, FL, and Charles (Jan) Snodgrass, Brambleton, VA, and a host of family and friends.

Services will be 1:00 PM, Saturday, August 22, 2009, at Davis Creek Church of the Nazarene with Pastors John Anderson,  Leslie Snodgrass and Steve Yancey officiating.  Burial will be Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston.   Friends and Family may gather Friday from 6-8 PM at the church.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hubbard Hospice House, 1001 Kennawa Dr., Charleston, WV 25311 or a charity of your choice.  Curry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Victor G. “Flib” Miller

Victor G. “Flib” Miller 72 of Alum Creek, WV died Saturday August 15, 2009 at Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston.  He was born in Alkol, WV May 19, 1937  to the late Charlie & Dulcie Smith Miller and was a 1956 graduate of Duval High School, Griffithsville WV.   Vic spent his working years at Union Carbide in South Charleston and Lotepro Corporation in San Francisco, CA.  He was a member and a past Master  of the Griffithsville Masonic Lodge #71 AF&AM and a member of the McCorkle Freewill Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by sons Kevin & Todd Miller, daughter April Miller and brother  Mancel “Dave” Miller of Madison.

Survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Una Miller, sons Christopher(Nancy) Miller of Fort Myers, Florida  David Miller(companion Nikki Luna) of San Diego, CA, step daughter Karen(Doug) Hancock of Victoria,  B.C. , step-son Scot Osborne (companion, Raffaella Bressan) of Victoria, B.C., Step grandchildren   Nikki, Ryan(Jenna) and Chris Hancock,  Lucas & Alexis Dewey, step great grandsons Austin Pandolfi & Owen Hancock of Victoria, B.C.   Sisters: Marie Thompson of Alkol, WV, Dorthy Meadows & Jane Weaver of McConnellsville, OH,  Nadean(Thomas) Dent of Beaver, OH, sister in law Lily Miller of Madison.  Brothers: Jimmy(Carrie) Miller of So. Chas., Larry(Linda) Miller of York, SC and a host of  nieces, nephews and friends.

Services will be 8:00 PM Monday August 17, 2009 with Pastors Russell Wright and Roe Smith officiating at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Rd., Alum Creek. Burial with Masonic graveside rites conducted by the Griffithsville Lodge will be 10:00 AM Tuesday at the Lively Cemetary Sod, WV.  Friends will gather Monday from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.  If desired donations may be made to Hubbard Hospice House at 1001 Kennawa Dr, Chas. WV 25311 or a charity of your choice.

Dorothy (Graley) Payne

Dorothy (Graley) Payne, 97 of Emmons entered into Heaven on Saturday, August 15, 2009 at the Boone Nursing Home where she was a resident for more than two years.  She was born October 24, 1911 to the late Lawrence and Lola (Barker) Graley and lived all her life at Fork Creek and Emmons.  She was also preceded in death by three brothers, one sister, husband, Omer Payne; son, Johnny Payne; daughter, Yvonne McClure; grandsons, Thomas and James Thompson; granddaughter, Terri Payne and son-in-law Billy Sisson.

Surviving are daughters: Sherry Thompson;  Betsy (Frank) Johnson;  Selma Sisson and Charlotte (Paul) Lee;  Special sister-in-law, Juanita Graley all of Emmons; Special son-in-law, Darrell McClure of Cleveland, OH; 11 Grandchildren including Billy, whom she raised, 28 great grandchildren; 18 great great grandchildren.  Several special nieces and nephews and a host of friends throughout the nearby communities and at the nursing home.

Services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at  Emmons Church of God with Pastors Butch Brogan, Almon Giles, Pete McNeely and Michael Graley speaking.  Burial will be in the Gillispie Cemetery, Emmons.    Friends may call Tuesday from 6 to 8 pm at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek.  Friends may also call one hour prior to the service at the church.

Donavan Lee Lude

Donavan Lee Lude, 35 of Sod, went home to be with the Lord Saturday August 8, 2009.   Donavan was a member of Boilermaker’s Local 667, he loved the outdoors,  hunting, fishing and camping, riding his rail buggy with his wife and kids and most of all joking and giving everyone a hard time. He was a great dad and will be sadly missed by all his family, friends and buggy ridding buddies.  He was preceded in death by his grandfathers Sam Hudson and Delmer Lude.

He is survived by his wife of 9 years Angie, sons Dalton and Gavin, mother and step father Debbie  and  Wayne Grass of Sod;  father and step-mother Delbert  Neica Lude of So. Charleston, grandmothers Nina Hudson of St. Albans and Helen Lude of So. Charleston.  Many cousins, aunts and uncles, and special nieces Ashley and Shelbi Isaacs.

Funeral service will be 8 PM Tuesday at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road Alum Creek. Private burial will be held at a later date. Family and friends will gather from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.   The family would like to give a special thanks to Tamera Shank, Mike Graley, Travis Hudson, Brock Justice, and Tanya and Jason Elkins for being with Donavan when he passed.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family for the benefit of Dalton and Gavin.

Linda Madden

Linda Madden of Alum Creek, 90 years old, born October 6, 1918 died Saturday, August 8, 2009 at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston.   She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe S. Madden; parents, Roy and Dona Linville; brother, Carlleal Linville; sisters, Ora Wolford, Jean Birch and Sue Williams.

Linda retired from Thomas Memorial Hospital as an unit clerk.  She was a member of the Alum Creek Church of Christ.  Linda enjoyed spending her time reading, cooking, and her most favorite past time that gave her the most joy was working in her vegetable garden and raising flowers.  She is survived by her sisters, Patricia “Peggy” Madden, Ruth Miller-Madden; brothers, Sid and Buddy Linville; lots of nieces and nephews; step-daughter, Phyllis Brown of Chicago, Illinois; caregivers, Donna Miller, Peggy Madden and Sandy Pauley.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 10, 2009 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Minister Justin Imel officiating.  Burial will be held in the Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey.  Family and friends may call on Monday one hour prior to the service.

Michael Edward DeWeese

Michael Edward DeWeese, 64, of Alum Creek, went home to the Lord Monday, August 3, 2009 at the VA Regional Medical Center in Huntington after a long illness.   He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene Clair and Margie Davis DeWeese, brothers Glen Alan and Eugene Upton DeWeese and sister Reathel Ella Cochran.   He was a member of the Independent Missionary Baptist Church at Alum Creek  the Benny Padilla VFW post 4768 and a Navy Veteran of the Vietnam war .

He is survived by his wife Donnarae, daughter Robin, brothers Jerry W. (Judy) of Greenville, So. Carolina and Donnie W. (Peggy) of Newton Falls, Ohio. 3 Grandchildren, Bill, Lyndsay, and Donnarae and 3 Great Grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Service will be 1:00 PM Friday at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road Alum Creek with Pastors Frank Chapman and Michael Graley officiating. Burial with military rites by the Benny Padilla VFW Post 4768 will follow at Graceland Memorial Park So. Charleston. Family and friends will gather from 6 to 8 pm Thursday at the funeral home.   Special thanks to Kanawha Hospice and the VA Medical Center staff and especially the Oncology Department for the kindness and care given to Mr. DeWeese.

Jill Suzanne Smith

Jill Suzanne Smith, 44, of Sumerco, passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at home.  She resided in Sumerco at the home of her parents.  She was a member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church and a student of the Special Needs Adult Program.

Jill had an unusual life long disease, Xeroderma Pigmentosa.  While a child of the community, she was as well a citizen of the world since laboratories around the globe have used her cells for decades in the advancement of disease research.   Jill’s loving, sweet and kind nature will be missed and long remembered.   Jill is predeceased by her mother, Betty W. Smith, who through the years provided remarkable devotion and love to her; maternal grandparents, Carlos and Hazel Westfall and paternal grandparents, Rev. J. Edgar and Velma Smith.

She is survived by her father, Dr. J. Loren Smith of Sumerco; brothers, Dr. Scott and Polly Smith of Sumerco, Clark W. Smith of St. Albans; sister, Julie C. Smith of Canton, CT and seven nieces, Tori, Taylor, Elizabeth, Gracie, Mattie, Jillian, and Shellie.  The family would like to thank special friends, Jo Ann Midkiff and Tammy Pearson.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 1, 2009 at St. Andrew United Methodist Church, 815 Kanawha Terrace, St. Albans, with Rev. Loretta Isaiah officiating.  Family and friends may gather from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM on Saturday at the church.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Special Needs Adult Program, St. Andrew United Methodist Church, 815 Kanawha Terrace, St. Albans, WV 25177.

Ruby Mae Plumley

Ruby Mae Plumley, 88,  a long resident of Spring Hill  went home to be with the Lord  Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at Belle’s Assisted Living, St. Albans after a long illness.  She was born June 24, 1921 to the late Jack & Flossie Aldridge; and was preceded in death by her husband, Sherman Plumley.    She is survived by:  3 Daughters: Phyllis Jean Craddock of KY; Billie Jo Bias of FL; Margaret Ann Tully of Springhill, WV; Granddaughters: Sherri Lanham of FL; Theresa Craddock, of KY  and Great Grandsons:  Tyler and Troy Craddock.

Services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, July 30, 2009 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, WV with Pastor Randy Stanley officiating.  Burial will be in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey.  Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Edith Bailey Gawthrop

Edith Bailey Gawthrop, 90, of Scott Depot, WV,  formerly of Yawkey went home to be with the Lord Sunday, July 26, 2009 at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston.   Edith was born February 5, 1919 at Grass Run, WV to the late Berl & Zella Bailey.   She was preceded in death by  her husband, Robert L. (Bob) Gawthrop; 2 sons: David Ray and Douglas Allen Gawthrop and grandson. Stephen Robert Gawthrop II.   She was a loving mother & grandmother;  a former member of Beech Grove Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher and choir member; she was a  member of Good Shepherd Baptist Church, Scott Depot.

She is survived by:  Son: Stephen Robert (Linda)  Gawthrop of Hamlin; Daughter: Becky (Chuck) Graley of Scott Depot; Brother: Charles Bailey of Wolf Summit, WV; 2 Sisters: Wilma Coffman of Clarksburg, WV and Betty Wright of Cleveland, OH; 8 Grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren and 3 step-great grandchildren.

Funeral Service will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, with Pastor Oshel Bell officiating.   Burial will be in Fairview Memorial Gardens, Hamlin.   Friends may call from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.   In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to Hubbard Hospice House, 1001 Kennawa Dr., Charleston, WV 25311.
