Alma June Fouts Stone Robinson, 64, of Charleston died suddenly Thursday, February 12, 2009.  Alma has traveled home to be with the Lord and her lovely husband Jackie L. Robinson, Sr.  She was a longtime employee with St. Francis Hospital where she shared the tremendous amount of love and compassion she had to offer.  She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church who recently became a deaconess and was excited about helping others find their way to the Lord as she did when she was saved at Calvary Baptist Church. She was a longtime member of the Eagles 519 Club where she was often referred by her friends as ma. Alma shared a passion with Jack in classic car’s and often shared that passion with other members of the Klassy Kruzers in Dunbar. Alma was a strong willed woman with a heart of gold. She will be sadly missed by all. She will be missed mostly by her three children whom she had a extremely very close relationship with.

She is survived by her children, David Anthony Stone V of Charleston, Beth Ann (Khalid) El-Shamy of Perrysburg, Ohio and Michael Andrew (Angela) Stone of Cross Lanes. Sister-in-Laws, Laura Hill, Patricia Nance, Sharon Fouts, Sheila Hill Sturm and special Aunt Toot’s. Grandchildren, Nicholas A. (Erica) Stone, David A. Stone VI, Jacob L. Smailes, Ashton-Kayte E. Smailes, Hanya K. El-Shamy, Austin Michael, Tarique-Jabrielle El-Shamy, Summer Michelle Stone and great grand daughter Fayth-Olivia M. Stone.

Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Tuesday at Calvary Baptist Church 510 Maryland Avenue, Charleston with Pastor Reverend Mark Newland officiating. Burial will be at Forks of Coal Cemetery at Alum Creek. Friends will gather from 6 to 9 PM Monday at the Calvary Baptist Church

Bob Pauley, 77 of Garrettsbend, Sod, son of Talmadge and Mamie Pauley, passed away Thursday, February 12, 2009 at home from complications of COPD.  He was a 1950 graduate from Duval High School, and went on to serve proudly in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict, was a member of the Benney Padilla VFW Post 4768 at Alum Creek where he participated in the award-winning Color Guard and was a member of the Peytona Church of Christ.  He was a strong , loving influence in all our lives, and he will be saddly missed.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Shirley, children, Cindy McKinney and husband Charles, Robert Pauley and wife Linda, Teresa Symmes and husband Lew, Sherry Roberts and husband Alan, and Melissa. Grandchildren, Alicia, Apphia, Gabe, Joel, Dorian, Deserea, Destiny, Katy and Cole, Great-Grandchild Tahlee. He is also survived by his brother Ray and sister Susie and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral service will be 11:00 am Monday, at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road Alum Creek with Donnie Pauley and Charles McKinney officiating. Burial will military rites conducted by the Venney Padilla VFW Post 4768 will be at the Pauley Family Cemetery Garrettsbend. Friends may gather from 6 to 8 pm Sunday at the funeral home.

Alice V. Gillenwater, 87, of Alum Creek, went home to be with the Lord on February, 10, 2009 at Hubbard Hospice House. She was born on October 3, 1921 at Alum Creek.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald and by her parents, Jim and Elsie Bowman.  She was the youngest of three sisters that also preceded her in death. They were Elsie Faye Frye and Ruby “Jack” Hill and a niece, Linda Stowers.  She was a former employee of Libby Owens and was well known for her home cooking especially her apple pie.  Alice was a life long member of the Forks of Coal Missionary Baptist Church where she served for 43 years as the church treasurer.

She is survived by three nieces, Patsy (Roger) Wheeler, Sue Childress, Nancy (Johnny) Matthews, all of Alum Creek and a nephew, Jimmy (Nadia) Kidd of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She is also survived by a special great niece, Laura Childress and other great nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, February 13, 2009 at the Forks of Coal Baptist Church, Alum Creek, with Pastors Robert “Butch” Leadman, Jody Pistore, Frank Chapman and Keith George officiating. Burial will be held in the Forks of Coal Memorial Park , Alum Creek.  Friends will be received at the Forks of Coal Missionary Baptist Church, Alum Creek, on Thursday between 6 and 8 p.m. and on Friday, one hour prior to the service.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Alice’s name may be made to the Hubbard Hospice House, 1001 Kennawa Drive, Charleston, WV 25311.

Dica Edith (Dunlap) Glenn, 88, of Passaic, New Jersey, formerly of Brounland, died on Sunday, February 8, 2009. Born in Charleston, Dica lived in West Virginia and was a resident of Passaic for many years.  Dica worked for St. Francis Hospital, Charleston, for nine years, retiring in 1982. She was the beloved wife of the late, Thomas Glenn, who died in 1984.

She was the devoted mother of Roger Dunlap (Adelina) and Thomas Glenn (Debbie), all of Clifton, New Jersey, Roscoe Dunlap of Zephyrhills, Florida and John Glenn (Nancy) of Dover, Delaware; dear sister of, Nicholas Dunlap of Ohio, Julia Kirk and Ethel Tucker, both of Rural Retreat, Virginia; loving grandmother of 9 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, February 13, 2009, at Curry Funeral Home, 2090 Childress Rd., Alum Creek, with Pastor Rick Harless and Eddie Belcher officiating. Burial will be in Fox Hill Cemetery, South Charleston. Murrel Paul McKinney, 80, of Sumerco, departed this life on Saturday, February 7, 2009, at Charleston Area Medical Center. He was born March 13, 1928 in Tango, West Virginia.  He was an elder and member of the Griffithsville Church of Christ, where he preached for 45 years. He served as a minister at numerous Churches of Christ, since 1953.  Murrel was a merchant marine and later served his country in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1947.

He was an active member of his community. He was a past president and zone leader of the Lions Club. Murrel was involved in coaching and mentoring through youth athletics. He was an announcer of Duval High School Football and Griffithsville area little league baseball from 1957 to 1987. He was a loaned executive to the United Way of the Kanawha Valley. He graduated Duval High School and attended Morris Harvey College. Murrel retired as an accounting manager from Columbia Gas Corporation in 1985 after a 33 year career with the company. He is a fine example of a gentleman farmer. He reaped what he sowed, and the bounty of his labor was beautiful vegetable gardens, fruit trees, and animals for those around him. In addition to enjoying his big red tractor, he loved spending time in his workshop, hunting and playing golf.  Murrel is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Wavie McKinney; brother, Norris McKinney; sister, Roma Justice; son-in-law, Roger Lovejoy; and grandson, Joey Lovejoy.

Murrel was a devoted family man. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Alberta Alice (Watts) McKinney and their three children, daughter, Pauletta (Pam) Lovejoy of Alum Creek, son, Minister Charles McKinney (Cindy) of Beckley and son, David McKinney (Trena) of Alum Creek. Grandchildren, Ray Lovejoy (Corrie) of Charleston, Apphia McKinney of Kingwood, Dr. Gabriel McKinney of Sumerco, Joel McKinney of Huntington, Davy McKinney, Camdyn McKinney and Tamika Summerfield, all of Alum Creek. He had two great-granddaughters, Tahlee McKinney and Savanna Lovejoy.  Also surviving is his brother, Frederic McKinney, Jr. (Betty) of Charleston and sisters and brothers in law with whom he shared much of his life, along with numerous nieces and nephews and many special friends.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 12, 2009 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Kim Matthews officiating. Burial will be held in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey. The family will receive friends \from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at the funeral home.

H. Stephen “Steve” Hunt, 54 of So Charleston passed away Saturday, February 7, 2009 at Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston after a long illness.  He was a retired maintenance supervisor for General Corporation in Charleston, a member of the Dunbar Masonic Lodge #159 and loved the outdoors.  He was preceded in death by his parents: Ray & Beulah Abbott Hunt and Twin Brothers: Ronald & Roland Hunt. 

Steve is survived by his sister,  Donna Hunt of St Albans; brothers,  Danny (Alice) and David (Ginny)Hunt all of So. Charleston; 6 nephews & nieces: Jeremy, Kortni, Jason, Jonathan, Traci & Chris and 3 Great nieces: Valerie, Sophia & Chaney.  

Memorial service will be 7:00 PM Tuesday, Feb 10, 2009 at the Curry Funeral Home, 2090 Childress Rd. Alum Creek, with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Friends will gather 1 hour prior to the service.  Per his request Mr Hunt was cremated.  In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations to Hubbard Hospice House, 1001 Kennawa Dr., Charleston, WV 25311.

James “Jim” Cardwell, Jr. 85, of South Charleston, died February 5, 2009, after a brief illness. He was a native of McDowell County and the son of Rufus Franklin and Lena Vell (Burnett) Cardwell. His early work life included more than a decade in coal mining, In 1960, he and his family moved to Charleston where he began a successful association with The Prudential Insurance Company. Between 1971 and 1997, he was named twenty-four times to Prudential’s prestigious Million Dollar Round Table.

The continuing influence of Jim’s life is felt through his gift for developing relationships and forging friendships. His generosity of spirit was expressed in many ways, private and public, including support of the University of Charleston, the Church of Nazarene, and West Virginia Health Right. He was a proud West Virginian with a gift for storytelling and a wicked sense of humor.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Joseph, Mason, and Daniel. He is survived by his beloved and loving wife of nearly sixty-five years, Loretta June (Dove) Cardwell; their children and spouses, Connie Snodgrass of Leesburg, VA; Beverly DeBord of Springfield, OH; Karen Teel and husband Brooks Teel of South Charleston; Nancy Knurek and husband, Chuck Knurek of South Charleston; Cathy McCue and husband, David McCueof Plano, TX; David Cardwell and wife, Laura Cardwell of Abilene, TX; grandchildren and spouses John Snodgrass of Washington, D.C.: Elizabeth Snodgrass of London England; Charles DeBord and wife, Amanda DeBord of Lexington, KY; Rodgers Harshbarger and wife, Kate Harshbarger of Chapel Hill, NC; Sam Harshbarger of South Charleston; John Michael Harshbarger of Morgantown; Bryan Knurek and wife, Holly Knurek of Milford Center, OH; Melissa Buckley and husband Jacob Bucklew of Fairmont, WV; Allison Taylor and husband, Jamie Taylor of Alexandria, VA; Katie Vaden and husband, Ray Vaden of Porter, TX; Chris Cardwell and wife Jami Cardwell of San Antonio, TX; great granddaughters: Kennedy Knurek, Lucy Harshbarger and Katharine Snodgrass; sister, Margaret Geneva Ball of Tazewell, VA; and brother, Franklin Lane Cardwell of Auburndale, FL.

Robert “Bob” Wade, 43, of Griffithsville, passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2009, at home after a sudden illness.  He was an employee of Ashworth Mobile Home Movers and a farmer. Bob was a good husband, father, son and a friend who would do anything for anybody.

He is survived by his wife, Teresa; five daughters, Jenni Lynn, Connie Marie, Becky Renee, Sara Hope and Keri Dawn; mother, Erma Wade; one sister, Janice Fore; four brothers, Freeman, Bill, Dale and Joe; several nieces and nephews.  Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 8, 2009 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Homer Hensley officiating. Friends will gather from 5 to 7 p.m on Sunday at the funeral home.  The burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday at the Samson Cemetery, Garretts Bend.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the funeral home.

Nellie Faye McClure, 82, of Sumerco went home to the Lord Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at home surrounded by family and friends.  She was preceded in death by her husband Wilbert O. “Pugh” McClure, 3 children Priscilla “Pat” Holt, Alice Faye and Darrell Ray. Parents Archie and Rev. Angie Williams. Sisters Cornia Loftis Tribble and Carrie Johnson and she was a member of Summitt Community Church.

She is survived by her Daughters; Mariam Tackett of Cincinnati, Ohio and Darlene Mae Tackett (JR) of Sumerco. Sons; Rev. Dwight McClure (Janet) of Sumerco, Gilbert McClure (Joyce) of North Port, Florida and Rev. P. Timothy McClure (Jenny) of Melbourne, Florida.  Also survived by 16 Grandchildren 25 Great Grandchildren 2 Great-Great Grandchildren; Sisters; Ruth Cornell of Woodville and Ann Egnor (Carl) of Sumerco. Brother; John Williams (Jean) of Dayton, Ohio.

Betty Gillenwater Dunlap, 64, of Sumerco, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, February 3, 2009 surrounded by family and friends.  She was preceded in death by husband, Billy; parents, Wilkie and Ella Gillenwater; brother, James Gillenwater.  She attended Morning Star House of Prayer at Ridgeview. 

She is survived by her sons, Billy (Lisa), and Frederick (Nancy) both of Yawkey, Alvie (Mary) of Nitro; daughters, Alice King and Belinda (Chris) Smith both of Pine Grove; four grandchildren, Amanda, Mike, Chris and Riley; step-grandson, Curtis; brothers, Darrell and Kenny Gillenwater; sisters, Helen Steele, Ruby Sandt and Janet Estep; and lots of friends.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 6, 2009 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastors Barry Meadows and Frank Chapman officiating.
