Tamala (Tammy) Rose Berry, 49, of St. Albans, died Saturday, February 23, 2008 at Thomas Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

She was preceded in death by her father, John Spaulding, sister, Peggy Barker, and brother, JR Spaulding.

She is survived by:

Husband: Gary Berry

Mother: Oma Pauley

2 Daughters: Melinda Treadway and  Tabitha Smith

Son: Wayne Berry

4 Sisters: Janet (Sue) Egnor, Paula Clay, Barbara Wilson, Chesalie Bauer and Myrtle Reid

Brother: William “Squirm” Spaulding

3 grandchildren: Johnna, Tyler, and Steven

Caregivers: Anna Roberts and Shelley Castle.

Services will be 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at the Sumerco Church of God with Pastor Richard McCallister officiating.  Burial will be at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens.  Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the church.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be given toward the funeral expense.

Paul K. Bays, 85, of St. Albans, died Saturday, Februrary 23, 2008, at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston.

Paul was a member of Highlawn Baptist Church in St. Albans and was a retiree of Union Carbide.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Lee Bays.

Paul is survived by his only daughter, Barbara Byrus; grandson and wife, Mike and Amanda Byrus; granddaughter, Kimberle Byus Smith; great granddaughter, Taylor Smith; and two great-grandsons, Will & Jacob Byus, all of St. Albans.

Paul’s family would like to thank Cindy Cobb and the staff at Country Villa for the wonderful care given by them to Paul.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m.  Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at Highlawn Baptist Church, 2304 Jefferson Ave., St. Albans.  Interment will be at Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar.  Friends and family may call 1 hour prior to the service at the church.

Dale E. Hudson

Dale E. Hudson, 66, of Alum Creek, was born September 15, 1941, in Charleston, the fourteenth of sixteen children of Harvey M. And Ina Means Hudson. He departed this life to enter eternal life on Saturday, February 23, 2008, following a short illness at CAMC Memorial Division.

On April 11, 1954, Dale received Christ as his Savior and was baptized at Oakwood Baptist Church where he remained a life time member. He attended Charleston High School and was a U.S. Navy Veteran. He was a retiree of the Huntington Banks, was an avid WVU Mountaineer fan and  loved to travel, fish and hunt in his native state.

Preceding Dale in death are his parents, five brothers, two sisters and his beloved beagles Katy and Dolly.

Surviving him is the angel of his life and companion of 23 years, Becky Phipps and her children, Keith Phipps and wife Ann of Danville, and Lisa Phipps Orr and her husband, Bob of Cincinnati; Ms. Phipps’ grandchildren, Joel Phipps, Delaney and Noah Orr.

Also surviving him are Dale’s eight remaining sisters, Macel Rader of New Jersey, Mary Poehlman and husband Howard of Michigan, Beuna Belle Withrow of Dunbar, Corinne Shumway of Wisconsin, Wanda Paxton of Poca, Patty Casto of Davis Creek, Margy Stockton and husband Dick of North Charleston and Claudia Sims and husband Tom of Charleston. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews locally and across the country.

Services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday February 27, at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road Alum Creek with Rev. Rick Harless officiating. Entombment will be at Graceland Memorial Park Mausoleum So. Charleston. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the funeral home.

The Phipps and Hudson families are grateful to Drs. Al Phister, Heather Tarantino and Liz Young and the MICU staff for their competent and compassionate care of our loved one.

Edward “Buck” Spencer Jr.

Edward “Buck” Spencer Jr.,  “Red”, of Charleston  died Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at Camc General after a short illness. 

He was a heavy equipment operator for WV Dept. Of Highways.  He was a veteran of the Vietnam War.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward & Delcie Spencer, and special girl, Stephanie Wright.

He is survived by:

2 Sons: Christopher and William Edward Spencer

Sister: Emma Young of Dunbar

2 Brothers: Herman Spencer of Florida

Brady Spencer of Hawaii

Special Uncle & Aunt, who were like second parents to Edward, Herman & Betty Boggess of Sissonville.

He will be sadly mssed by several other dear family members & friends including his special girl, Makayla Wright.

Service with military honors will be 7:00 pm Monday, February 25, 2008 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek.  Friends may call 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Buck shared with his family & would like everyone to know that he did everything he wanted in life at least twice, his only regret was some things he would have done more times.  About his life he said, “I did it my way.”

She was a retired clerk of U.S. Postal Service, a member of Cobbs Creek Missionary Baptist Church, Sod.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Clell & Esta Pauley; husbands Hershel Saul and Clifford Asbury.

Kevin Douglas Griffith, 40, of St. Albans passed away Thursday, February 14, 2008 at CAMC General Division Charleston.

He was preceded in death by his parents,  Douglas Griffith and Joan Carole Yallourakis; grandparents, James and Bremen Griffith and Noah Addison Harrison, 3 cousins and 3 aunts.

He was a employee of Cornerstone Builders of Teays Valley. He was an avid motorcycle rider and loved fast cars.

He is survived by his:

Son: Cameron Scott Griffith;

Daughter: Paige Elizabeth Griffith;

Grandmother: Phyllis M. Harrison;

2 Sisters: Amy (Paul) Lutz and Cody Griffith;

Niece: Raleigh Addison Lutz

Aunts: Jewell Haddad, Phyllis “Peg” Griffith, Patty (Don) Dimock, Jeanette (Bob) Rieck, Carley Jo (Dale) Means and Lucy (Roy) Howerton.

Uncles: Kenny (Ann) Griffith, Jack (Loxley) Griffith, Larry (Patsy) Harrison, John (Sandra) Harrison and David (Sharon) Harrison.

Step Children: Kaitlyn, Matt, Kelly and Christy;

A memorial service will be held at 7:00 PM Tuesday February 19, at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road,  Alum Creek,  with Mike Bell officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family request donation be made to Hubbard Hospice House Charleston in memory of Kevin’s parents,  Douglas Griffith and Joan Carole Yallourakis.

As a gift of life, Kevin donated his organs so that six people may receive continued life here in the local area.

Harold E. Stowers

Harold E. Stowers, 73, of Winfield  died Thursday, February 7, 2008 in St. Mary’s Hospital Huntington after a short illness.

He was born March 20, 1934 to Ashby and Lola (Burton) Stowers at Sugartree, Lincoln Co., WV

Harold was a 1952 graduate of Duval High School.  He received an honorable discharge from the US Army on July 13, 1962.  He retired from Brewer & Co., Charleston, WV in 1990 and was a 50 year member of the Sprinkler Fitters Local 669, United Association.  He was also a member of the Order of Elks 202 and a member of the Elk bowling league for many years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by special nephews, Kevin and Allen Loftis.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Janice Clark Stowers

 

Brother and sister-in-law: Luther and Phyllis Stowers of Charleston

Sisters and brothers-in-law: Wanda and Charles Smith of Nitro

Sylvia and Doyle Loftis of Valparaiso, Indiana

Several nieces and nephews.
