Lucy J. Green, 82, of Royal Oak, Michigan, died Wednesday June 21, 2006 at Cambridge Nursing Home, Clawson, Michigan after a long illness.

She is survived by her daughter, Virginia B. Thomason; brother, Denzil Turley; four grandchildren, four great grandchildren.

Services will be held Saturday, June 24, 2006 at 10:00 AM at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will be held in Forks of Coal Cemetery, Alum Creek. Friends may call on Friday from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home.

Harriett C. Rubin

Harriett C. Rubin passed away on June 17, 2006 after a long illness.

Born January 3, 1934, the daughter of Ernest and Flocie Childress of South Charleston. She graduated from South Charleston High School in 1951 and was a graduate of Mason College of Music. She was a bookkeeper and retired from Bob’s Exxon. Harriett was an active member of the Davis Creek Church of the Nazarene where she was recently recognized as one of the longest serving members. Her ministry included women’s ministries, Sunday school teacher, mother and daughter banquet and NYI President. The Church of the Nazarene awarded her with the Distinguished Service Award. She served as church organist for 44 years, providing music for countless weddings and other special occasions. Harriett always responded when friends and family needed emotional or spiritual support in times of illness or loss. She was active as a Scout Leaders wife for troop 57. She developed a close bond with the scout leaders wives and enjoyed many outings with this close group of friends.

Harriett is survived by her husband of 50 years, Bob Rubin, son and wife, Bill and Judy Rubin of Charleston; daughter and husband, Frances and Mark Pack of Charleston; five grandchildren, Kelly and Nikki Pack, Leslie, Candice and Courtney Rubin; sisters, Mary Sheets, Mildred Johnson; brother, Ernest Herman Childress, Jr. of Chesapeake, Virginia.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Flocie Childress, sisters, Margaret Martini and Addie Jo Snyder.

Friends may call Tuesday, June 20, 2006 from 6 to 8 PM at the Davis Creek Church of the Nazarene with services being held at 8:00 PM at the church. A family graveside service will be held at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston, on Wednesday. Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, is in care of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Kanawha Hospice Care of Dunbar.

Nena “Emelie” Willhite, 68, of St. Albans died Saturday, June 17, 2006 in Thomas Memorial Hospital South Charleston after a short illness.

Graveside service will be noon Monday, June 19, 2006 at Spring Hill Cemetery, Charleston. Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek is in charge of arrangements.

Irene D. Loftis, 85, of Sumerco, formerly of Alkol, went home to be with her Lord and Heavenly family on Sunday, July 9, 2006.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Goldie Pauley; husband, Virgil Skitch Loftis; daughter, Judy Kessinger; grandchildren, Victor Craig Kessinger & Kevin Loftis; and brother, Jr. Pauley.

She was a member of Sycamore Grove Baptist Church and attended Sumerco Church of God faithfully and loved to sing in both church choirs.

Service will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, July 13th at Curry Funeral Home with Pastors Richard McCallister and Dwight McClure officiating. Burial will be in Lively Cemetery, Sod. Friends may call from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.

 

Forest B. (Frosty) Priestley, 76, of Alum Creek died Saturday, June 3, 2006 at Quarry Manor Personal Care Home, Charleston after a long illness.

He was a retired construction worker in the coal mines. He was a member of UMWA.
He was a Korean War veteran.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilburn C. “Pop” & Alberta Priestley.

Robert S. Milne

Robert S. Milne, 65, of Scott Depot, WV was called home on Sunday, May 28, 2006 after an extended illness.

He was born in Rochester, NY to his late parents, Esther and Scott Milne and was also preceded in death by his first wife, Marjorie.

He was a retired department manager with Eastman Kodak Co., in New York with 32 years’ service. He founded the Charleston Area Amputee Support Group in July 2003. He was a member of Teays Valley Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his wife, Bethel; children and spouses, Tyler (Toni) Milne, Troy (Jackie) Milne, Marlene (Jeri) Pickett, Terri (Rob) Dickerson, Cheryl Scites, and Greg (Kim) Snodgrass; brothers and spouses, Rick (Shirley) Milne, George ( Martha) Milne; grandchildren, Jeremy, Jerrod, Josh, Tate, Allison, Carli, Madison, Reagan, Joy, Nathaniel, Jessica and Tobias; many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Services will be 3:00 PM Wednesday, May 31, 2006 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, with Pastor George Bendall officiating. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery , McCorkle. Friends may call 1 hour prior to service at the funeral home.

Pearl May Brumfield

Pearl May Brumfield, 74, of Sumerco, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 30, 2006, at home after a long illness. She was the daughter of the late Hallie & Goldie Adkins.

She was retired from LCOC in Hamlin, and was a 40-year member of the Porter Fork Missionary Baptist Church.

Pearl is survived by her husband of 56 years, James Henry, sons, Richard Clay, Ronald James, Rodney Dale and Ottie Ray, daughters, Sharon Marie Bias and Sherry Lee Withrow, and brother, Chester Adkins. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. She left a host of nephews, nieces, friends and loved ones behind.

Services will be 11:00am on Friday, June 2, 2006, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastors Oshel Bell and Harlan Roberts officiating. Burial will be in Miller Cemetery, Sweetland. Friends may call on Thursday from 7:00 to 9:00pm at the funeral home.

Harry Lee Canterbury, 70, of Julian, died Saturday, May 20, 2006 at CAMC General Division after a short illness.

He was a brick mason.

He is survived by three sisters, Genevieve Redman of Sod, Vada Hughes of Melton, Vircie Griffith of Sumerco and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2:00 PM on Tuesday, May 23, 2006 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will be in the Old Pine Grove Cemetery, McCorkle. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Elsie McClard Dowdy

Elsie McClard Dowdy, 96, of St. Albans, died Thursday, May 18, 2006 at Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation, Hurricane after a long illness.

She is survived by his two daughters, Deloris Faye Reynold of Cross Lanes and Mary Belle Minton of St. Albans.

Burial will be in Armstead-Dowdy Cemetery, Dexter, MO. Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, in care of arrangements.

Elliott Lee Hammond

Elliott Lee Hammond, 80, of Julian, formerly of North Eaton, Ohio, died at home on Wednesday, May 17, 2006 at home after a long illness.

He retired from the assembly line with Ford Motor Co. in Brook Park, Ohio, served as a deacon in the North Eaton Baptist Church, was a member of Lory Baptist Church and was a veteran of the Korean war.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred; son, Benjamin Lee Hammond of home; sisters, Vernice Tranovich of North Ridgeville, Ohio, Juanita Kelley of Columbus, Ohio and several nieces and nephews.

Burial will be in Wood Cemetery at Camden on the Gauley. There will not be a visitation or funeral. Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, is in care of arrangements.
