Betty Lou Rose Creech

April 17th, 2019 | Posted by curryfuneralhome in Obituaries - (19 Comments)

Betty Lou Creech of South Charleston, WV, passed away on Wednesday, April 16, just three days shy of her 90th birthday. Betty was preceded in death by her husband Eugene Creech, and her brothers James, Scottie, and Edgar Rose, and sisters Jean Lively, Patsy Fitch, and Doris Gallione.

A long time member of Humphrey’s Memorial United Methodist Church (now Dunbar United Methodist Church), Betty was steadfast in her faith and strong in her convictions. Unknown to many, she also kept a quick wit and sharp tongue hidden behind a loving smile and warm eyes of crystal blue. A unique standout from a generation of conservative values, Betty’s progressive world view made her a friend and ally to everyone, rich and poor, young and old.

Born the daughter of the manager of a company store, in Logan, WV, Betty completed high school before joining her father and siblings to run their family business, Rose Shopping Center. A staple of the Alum Creek community for many years, the customers who frequented “Rose’s” became just as much a part of the family as the Roses themselves. Even thirty years after the store closed, there wasn’t a time when Betty would be out in the community that she wouldn’t be approached by some friendly face wanting to see how she and her family were doing and share updates on their own. These were always faces that “used to come into the store.”

Beyond her faith and her work, Betty took most pride in her family. Survived by her three children; James (spouse: Terri), Joseph (spouse: Sandra), and Genie Creech of South Carolina and South Charleston, respectively, Betty was also the loving grandmother to her seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

Never one to be the center of attention, there will be a small service in the Chapel at Graceland Memorial Park on Friday, April 19, (what would have been Betty’s 90th birthday) at 1:00 pm to celebrate the life of an amazing woman, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother! In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), or a charity of your choice in her name.

Prayer for Serenity

God, grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time,
enjoying one moment at a time;
accepting hardship as a pathway to peace;
taking, as Jesus did,
this sinful world as it is,
not as I would have it;
trusting that You will make all things right
if I surrender to Your will;
so that I may be reasonable happy in this life
and supremely happy with You forever in the next.

Amen.
