Sandra Sue Stover

Sandra Sue Stover, 77 of Charleston, went home to be with the Lord on June 25, 2019 at Dunbar Center Nursing Home, Dunbar after a long illness.

Sandra is retired from JC Penney’s in Charleston.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Mildred Taylor and her brother, Johnny Taylor.

She is survived by her husband, Earl Stover; sons, John Shamblin, Gary (Kayla) Shamblin, and Todd Stover; step-son, Tim (Randi) Stover; three grand daughters, Emily, Haylee, and Natalie.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, June 29, 2019 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Mike Long officiating.  Burial will be in French Cemetery, Charleston.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Rev. David Callison

Rev. David Callison, 76 of Griffithsville, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday June 23rd, 2019 after a long illness.

Dave spent his life serving God and helping people.  He pastored Gallagher Baptist Church, Shrewsbury Baptist Church, Amy Baptist Church and Yawkey Methodist Church.  He was a member of Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church on Garretts Bend. He also worked in the coal mines for 12 years and was the owner and operator of Sparkle Wash in Charleston for 25 years.

He was preceded in death by his son, Christopher, parents, John and Evelyn Callison and nephew John Callison.

Left to grieve are his wife of 55 years, Shirley Bowe Callison; daughters, Kym Barnett (Mark), Terry Collins (Jeff);brothers, Carl (Marilyn) Callison, Joe (Betty) Callison), Mark (Sue) Callison; special daughter-in-law, Karen Callison; 7 grandchildren, Lyndsi, Mark Anthony, Jordan, Zac, Logan, Christina, Jessica; 5 great grandchildren, Bella, Hayden, Juliana, Tyler James, and Kinsley.

The family wants to thank Mark and Mark Anthony Barnett for the tender loving care they gave Dave while he was sick.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Monday July 1, 2019 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastors Homer Hensley and Mark Ruby officiating.  Burial will be in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Sunday at the funeral home.

Sandra Kay Cook

Sandra Kay Cook, 68, of Sumerco, WV went home Friday, June 21, 2019 at Thomas Memorial Hospital in South Charleston.

She worked at the VA Hospital in West Palm Beach, Florida for 12 years.

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Virginia Hancock Snead, two brothers, and two sisters.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Donald Cook; son, Donald R. Cook of Yawkey; three grandchildren Chloe, Cleah, and Hunter Cook; sisters Margaret Boyd of Quincy, WV, and Norma Snead of Myrtle Beach, SC; and many nieces and nephews.

A gathering of family and friends will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek.  Burial will follow at a later date.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the funeral home.

Michael W. McCallister

Michael W. McCallister, 65 of Sumerco, went home to be with the Lord Our Father, on June 16, 2019 at Hubbard Hospice House, South Charleston after a long illness.

Michael was a graduate of Duval High School and was a United States Navy Veteran serving on the USS Kitty Hawk.  He was a loving son, father, grandfather and brother.  We take comfort in knowing we will all be together again.

He was preceded in death by his father, Vaden McCallister, Jr.; grandparents; Vaden McCallister, Sr. and Faye McCallister, Emory and Oma Eddy.

Michael leaves behind his mother, Billie Shartzer; daughter, Sherrica McCallister of NC; grandchildren, Riley and Renesmee Paul of NC; sisters, Sandi McCallister of Spring Hill, FL, Dreama Hammack of Sumerco; brothers, Ronnie McCallister of Sumerco, and Timothy McCallister of Port St. Lucy, FL.

Memorial service will be held at 12:00 PM Noon on July 9, 2019 at Sumerco Church of God, with Pastor Richard McCallister officiating.  Final resting place will be in Midkiff Cemetery, Sumerco.

Joseph Charles “Joe” Messer, 71, of Sod, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown.

He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Goldie, sons, John Thomas “J.T.” Messer, and Jason Messer,  daughters, Kelly (Curtis) Shaw, and Tiffany Messer, step-sons, Tommy Miller and Larry (Cassie) Miller, step-daughter, Denease Miller, 15 grandchildren, and two great-granddaughters.

Service will be 1:00 PM Saturday, June 22, 2019 with Pastor Wayne Miller officiating, at Curry Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Anderson/Old Pine Grove Cemetery, Sumerco with military graveside rites.  Friends and family will gather Friday, June 21, 2019 at the funeral home from 6:00pm – 8:00pm.

Billy Joe Pauley

Billy Joe Pauley, 85, of South Charleston, WV, went home Monday, June 10, 2019 at CAMC Memorial Hospital in Charleston.

He served in the U. S. Marine Corp. during the Korean War.

Billy was owner and operator of Pauley Masonry. He attended te New Direction Ministries in St. Albans.

Billy was preceded in death by his wives Lois and Elizabeth; sons, Rodney and Timothy Pauley; and step-son, Roger Mallory.
He is survived by his companion, Linda Anselment; daughters, Stephanie Lockhart and Sherry Pauley; sons, Joe and Kevin Pauley and Tommy Joe Baker; 12 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.

Service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 13, 2019 at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastor James Patton officiating. Burial will follow at Lively Cemetery, Sod, with with Military Graveside Rites. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Dana Lewis Graley

Dana Lewis Graley, 72, of Sod, WV, passed away Monday, June 10, 2019 at home.
He retired from the Laborers Union and was a graduate of Duval High School.
Dana is survived by his sons, Randy and Gary.
There will be no services.

Jason Russell Long

Jason Russell Long, 44, of Yawkey, WV, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at CAMC-GENERAL in  Charleston.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Emmett & Erma Wade and William & Dorothy Long, brother, James Long and step-brother, Roger Fore.

He was a plumber.

Jason is survived by his parents, Johnny (Susie) Long & Janice (Bill) Fore, son, Cody Long, daughter, Kelley Jo Long, brothers, Tony (Amy) Long of Tornado, Travis (Kristi) Long of Yawkey, Adam (Michele) Long of Sissonville, step-brother, Billy (Sue) Fore of Hometown, Steven (Jennifer) Abbott of Sod, Timmy (Melissa) Abbott, of Bulger, and step-sister, Kay Miller of Sod.  Jason is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Service will be 1:00pm Saturday, June 8, 2019, at Curry Funeral Home, with Pastor Richard McCallister officiating.  Burial will follow at Miller-Hughes Cemetery, Ely, WV.  Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service.

Linda Lou Allen Brogan

Linda Lou Allen Brogan, 63, of McCorkle, WV, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at CAMC Memorial Hospital in Charleston after a long battle with cancer.

Linda always enjoyed family gatherings and  time spent with her grandchildren who were the joy of her life. She was a 1974 graduate of Duval High School.

Linda was preceded in death by her husband Jimmy Brogan; mother Nellie Jean Allen; father Herman Glen Allen; sister Drema Gay Politino; and infant sister Christina Allen.

She is survived by her daughter Jessica (Matthew) Pauley and grandchildren Madison and MacKenzie Pauley all of Yawkey; sister Lisa (Jerry) Saunders of Hurricane; brothers Jerry Allen of McCorkle, Larry “Dink” (Kathy) Allen and Glen Dale Allen both of Yawkey; sister-in-law Carolyn Brogan (Bobby) Perdue of Yawkey; special niece, who was like a sister, Rhonda (Curt) McCallister of Arab, AL; and several other special nieces and nephews that she dearly loved.

Service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 6, 2019 at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastor Bub Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Lively Cemetery in Sod. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

The family would like to express a special thank you to Gary and Sharon Dunlap for always being there to help.

 

Romie J. Griffith

Romie J. Griffith, 90, of South Charleston, WV. “Knowing the way home, at Rest in the Promise”. Romie was born at Ivy Branch, WV, July 23, 1928 and passed from this life Thursday, May 30, 2019.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in St. Albans. He operated St. Albans Exxon and the St. Albans Service Company, retiring in 1982 after many years of very satisfying work. Romie was a Merchant Seaman and Veteran of the Army Signal Corps serving in Europe.

Romie was predeceased by parents, Romie E. and Elsie Mooney Griffith; brothers, Bill, Charles and Frank Griffith; and sisters, Betty Jo Griffith, Sarah Harless, Mary Wagner and Ruth Stover LaBlanc.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Barbara; son, Dr. Tom (Betty) Griffith; daughter, Lu Ann (Michael) Brown; sister, Minnie Palmer; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 2, 2019, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastor Joel Harpold officiating. Burial will follow at Forks of Coal Memorial Park in Alum Creek, with military graveside Rites conducted by the Alum Creek VFW Post 4768.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
