Gilbert Dime Wilson, Jr., 70, of Hamlin, WV, went home Saturday, January 4, 2020 at CAMC Memorial Division in Charleston.

He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and served in Vietnam. He was a truck driver for McComas Dairy. Gilbert was also a former clown with the traveling circus.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert Dime and Constance Doile Wilson, and sister, Penny.

Gilbert is survived by his wife of 47 years, Helen; daughter, Angie Cornell; sons, Gregory, Christopher, Dime, Nicholas and Joshua; 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; and 4 sisters.

There are no services planned at this time. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made towards funeral services.

Daniel Christopher Arthur, 29, of Dunbar, WV, died Friday, December 27, 2019 in Dunbar. He was employed at Graziano’s of Dunbar.

He is survived by his 5 year old daughter, Audrey; mother, Angela Arthur Henry; and father and step-mother, Bobby and Kathy Powell; brothers, Layne and Chris Henry.

No services are planned at this time.

Roe Ellis Smith

Roe Ellis Smith, 86, of Sod, WV went to be with the Lord December 31, 2019 at home surrounded by loved ones.

He was born on August 26, 1933. Roe was saved on March 17, 1961 and served God faithfully for the last 58 years as pastor of Old Glory Free Will Baptist, Emmons Free Will Baptist, and McCorkle Free Will Baptist. God used his faithful service to touch the lives of countless people. He leaves behind a testament of faithfulness and God’s grace.

He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and a retired journeyman electrician from Volkswagon of America.

Roe was preceded in death by parents Dolly and Charles; siblings Harry, Howard, and Goldie; son Jeffrey; son-in-law Randy McClure; and grandson Jeremy Swann.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Grace; daughters Terri Duttine, Sandra McClure, Lisa (Mike) Swann, Rita (Robert) McCallister, and Norma (Calvin) Brogan; grandchildren Josh Browning, Michael (DeeDee) Browning, Holly (Josh) Dingess, Brandon (Kayla) McClure, Brittany (Brent) Griffith, Katie Murray, Emily (Stephen) Jones, Taylor (David) Landers, Megan (Tommy) Jenkins, Allison Adams, Rachel McCallister, Morgan Swann, Austin Swann, Grace McCallister, and Destiny Sparks; great grandchildren Randi, Emylee, Garrett, Kaydon, Isabella, Haley, Kolton, Colt, Farryn, Beckett, Everly, Brinley, Rosalynn, Maximus, Gwendolynn, Moses, Eliot, and Bailey; brother Charles (Wanda) Smith and sister Betty Pauley.

Service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 4, 2020 at the McCorkle Free Will Baptist Church with grandson Brandon McClure and Pastor Robert McCallister officiating. Burial will follow at Lively Cemetery, Sod, with military graveside rites conducted by the Alum Creek VFW Post 4768.

The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service at the church.

Dallas Lee Means

Dallas Lee Means, 52, of South Charleston, went home on Thursday, December 19, 2019, at CAMC-Memorial Division, Charleston.  He was preceded in death by his mother, Sally Ann Means.

He formerly was self-employed in the timber business.

Dallas is survived by his father, Bruce D. Means, sister, Gloria (Raymond) Mann of Claredon, NC, brothers, John (Kathy) Means of Looneyville, WV, and Ralph Pistore of South Charleston. 

He is also survived by two nieces and five nephews, Jessica, Abigail, Brandon, Jason, Robert, Michael, and Bruce, and many other great-neices & great-nephews and extended family. 

Graveside service will be 2:00pm on Monday, December 23, 2019 with Pastor John Means officiating at B.J. Means Memorial Cemetery, Spring, Hill. 

In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions toward funeral services.

Glada G. Javins

Glada Gayle Javins, 54, of Ashford, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 18, 2019, surrounded by her loving family.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Javins & Maggie Holstein, sister, Darlene Butcher and close friend Wendy Dickerson.

Glada was  a department manager with K-Mart department stores. 

She is survived by her two daughters, Kayla and Courtney Javins, granddaughter, Tiffany Holstein (Chad) and their son, Jaxson, lifelong friend, Christi Benedict, brother, Charles Javins (Samantha) and their daughters, Chloe  and Nikki. 

Glada is also survived by her extended family, Shawnte Benedict (Shawn), Jeremiah Benedict (Nikki) and their families, James Benedict (Crystal), Tammy Lushbaugh (Randy), and their families, Steven Benedict (Michelle) and special niece, Melissa Stephens (John) and their son, Nolan, and niece, Cassis Hodges (Justin) and their two sons.

Service will be 4:00pm Saturday, December 21, 2019, at Curry Funeral Home, with Pastor Robbie Legg officiating.  Family & friends will gather one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers family requests contributions toward funeral expenses.

Janet R. Mooney

Janet R. Mooney, 79, of Alum Creek, went home Tuesday December 17, 2019

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Edith Clendenin; brothers, Delford and Gary Clendenin; and sister, Charlotte Means.

Janet is survived by her sons, Bobby (Jeanette) Stout and James Stout; four grandchildren, Lauren, Matthew, Morgan and Macie; and sister, Sue (Sonny) Roberts.

A private service will be held at a later date.

Clarence Edward “Buck” Barker, 98, of Ashford, WV, departed this life Monday, December 16, 2019 to be in the presence of our Lord.

He was a WWII Army Veteran. Buck retired from Ferro Corporation of Cleveland, Ohio, and was a member of the Chesapeake Freewill Baptist Church.

Buck was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Sallie Barker, brothers, James and Dempsey Barker, and sisters, Alice Smith and Arlenda “Girlie” Barker.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 71 years, Pauline; sister, Minnie Hunter; 20 nieces and nephews and 22 great nieces and great nephews.

Service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 20, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastors Kenneth Samms and Dan Kelly officiating. Burial will follow at Barker Cemetery in Ashford with military graveside honors.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Norma Pauley

On Saturday, December 14, 2019, Norma Jean Foster Pauley, of Charleston, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away at the age of 81 at Genesis Health Care in Dunbar, WV.  She was surrounded by her family.

Norma was born on October 22, 1938 in Bluefield, VA, to Florence Spicer and Charles Edward Foster.  She went to St. Albans High School and married Jimmie Stewart Pauley in 1955, residing at Ruth, WV, with her family.  Norma was a professional wallpaper hanger/painter for many years.

After the deaths of her husband and son in a scaffolding accident in 1979, Norma devoted her life to her two daughters and her grandchildren.  Norma’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jimmie Pauley, Sr., and her son, Jimmie Pauley, Jr, and brother, Clifford Wayne Kinder. 

Norma is survived by her companion, Ernie Strickland, daughters, Debbie Jones and Cheryl (Sherrie) Pauley, grandchildren, Kaycee Pauley Gangwer (Benji), Karen Pauley Vickers (Jeremy) Kylie Gobel Doss (Charlie) Karey Jones and Dylan Jones, and great-grandchildren, Layla, Memphis, Kinley, Jill, Cora and Jaxson. 

Service will be 1:00pm Thursday, December 19, 2019, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Gene Pauley officiating.  Burial will follow at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston.  Family & friends will gather one hour prior to the service. 

Wanda Marie Motter

Wanda Marie Motter, of Charleston formerly Ruth, passed away Saturday December 14, 2019 at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston.

She was a sales clerk at GC Murphy Dept. Store in South Charleston for many years.

She is preceded in death by her husband Jimmy and son Mark. She is survived by many family members and friends.  

Graveside service will be 2:00 PM Tuesday December 17, 2019 at Graceland Memorial Park.

Ford Henry Taylor

Ford Henry Taylor, 63 of South Charleston went home to be with the Lord on December 7, 2019 at home after a long illness.

Ford was a United States Air Force Veteran, a Christian, and attended Hopewell Baptist Church. He was born on September 24, 1956 to the late James and Jean Bird Taylor, in addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Bobby, Dale, and Ron; sister, Jill Taylor.

Ford is survived by his wife of 30 years Melissa Holstein Taylor, children, Kayla Mills, Brad Taylor, and Travis Taylor; brother, Danny Taylor and sisters, Connie Bevel, Cathy Rhodes, Candy Chandler and Nancy Belcher.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to Curry Funeral Home to help with funeral expenses.

Service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday December 12, 2019 at Donel C. Kinnard State Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Dunbar, WV.
