Christopher Allen “Ice Man” Ice, Sr., went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, October 6, 2021, at Thomas Memorial Hospital.

Chris was the owner and operator of Fire & Ice Heating & Cooling. He was a member of Charleston Eagles Aerie 519, a member of ABATE WV, and Hilltop Baptist Church. Chris was a motorcycle enthusiast and loved raising money for charities.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Linda and brother, Howard.

Chris is survived by his wife of 11 years, Angie; five children, Christopher Ice, Jr., Mikayla Ice (Tony) Rua, Gary E. Hudson III, Christopher B. Hudson, and Hunter D. Hudson; grandson, Tony Jr.; and brother Rick (Helen) Ice; father & mother-in-law, Buzz & Carol Huffman; several nieces & nephews; and special friends, Chris, Laura, and Glen. He was an avid dog lover, leaving behind his five shepherds and beloved Bear.

Service will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, October 9, 2021, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastors Jim Lennox and Doris Walls officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

Carolyn Louise Byrd Snodgrass, 77, born in Charleston on December 3, 1943, was greeted by her Lord Jesus Christ, and welcomed home to heaven on Monday, October 4, 2021. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Benny Ray Snodgrass, son Kenneth Snodgrass, daughter Katherine Snodgrass, her parents Wallace J. and Virginia Byrd and brother Wallace E. Byrd.

Carolyn was an active 30-year member of the Daughters of The American Revolution, in both the William Morris and the Kanawha Valley Chapters. She served in numerous leadership roles to include Vice-Regent and Recording Secretary. She was also distinguished as a member of the Service to Veterans Committee, Cameo Club, and the Snodgrass Clan Society. Carolyn won multiple awards for her American Heritage Fiber Arts at both the State and National levels. Further, she was a Wreaths Across America volunteer where she raised money for the purchase and placement of the wreaths each year.

Carolyn also loved swimming and aqua aerobics. In earlier years, she received certifications to instruct water exercises to include specialties in arthritis rehabilitation and those with Multiple Sclerosis.

Carolyn is survived by her daughter, Deborah Stewart (James) and her son, John Snodgrass (Jamie); grandchildren, Rebecca Wells, Joseph Layton, Hannah Hill (Austin), Sloane Stewart, Shea Stewart, Corey Snodgrass, Kaitlyn Kelly (Derek); great grandchildren, Taylor and Kailynne Wells, Easton Layton, Mia, Riley, and Zane Kelly; sisters, Patricia Wilson, Sandra Childress (Steve), Gloria Bailey (Debra), Sharon Shea (Richard); sisters-in-law, Phyllis Permillia, Genevieve Vandale, and Lillian Snodgrass.

Special thanks to Dr. John Frame and the staff at the Hubbard Hospice House in South Charleston for their kind, considerate, and compassionate care.

Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 8, 2021, at Graceland Memorial Park Mausoleum in South Charleston, Kanawha County with Pastor Bill Carter officiating.

David Meryl Reed

David Meryl Reed, 70, of St. Albans, WV, died Thursday, September 30, 2021, at Thomas Memorial Hospital in South Charleston after a two-week battle with Covid-19.

Dave was born July 18, 1951, in Batesville, Indiana, son of Lonzo and Clara (Hansen) Reed. He was the firstborn of 14 children. He graduated in 1969 from Sunman High School.

He worked at Campbell Hausfeld in Harrison, Ohio, for many years and ran his own business, T & R Compressors in Brookville, Indiana. Dave often used the flea markets to show and sell his merchandise.

Dave had numerous vending locations, but the last location before he retired was in Milton, West Virginia. This is the state where he met the love of his life, Paulette, and they were married 33 glorious years.

Dave lived his life for the Lord and was full of joy. He was a caregiver to many and never met a stranger. Dave would tell you he was blessed with 6 children of his own and doubly blessed for the 6 children he got when he married Paulette.

His greatest enjoyment was spending time with all his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was treasured by everyone whose path he crossed and will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Dawn and Darlene, and brothers Don and Darrell.

Dave is survived by his loving spouse, Paulette (Pauley) Reed; children Tabitha (John) Thompson, Mike (Jennifer) Reed, and Theresa (Greg) Baker all of

Metamora, Indiana, Robert Reed, Jon Reed, and Ashley Reed all of Arizona, Brian Hines, John (Sherry) Hines, Scott (Chrissy) Hines, Kim (Mike) Allen, Tammy (Randy) McCormick, and Jason (Melissa) Hines all of West Virginia. Siblings Diana Reed of Charlestown, Indiana, Dan (Deb) Reed of Oregon, Donna Overstreet, Della Chapman and Debbie Wiggers all of Batesville, Indiana, Dennis (Lorene) Reed of Milan, Indiana, Dale (Cathy) Reed of Big Bear Creek, W. Va., Denise (Terry) Bostic of Bloomingrose, W. Va., Doug (Gloria) Reed of Chandler, Arizona, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Service will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 4, 2021, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastor John Mark Gillenwater officiating. Burial will follow at Cunningham Memorial Park in St. Albans, WV.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Rick Eugene Ferrell

Rick Eugene Ferrell, 69, of Logan, departed this life suddenly on Tuesday morning, September 28, 2021, at his home in Yawkey, WV.

Born August 7, 1952, at Logan General Hospital, he was the son of the late Jewel (McCloud) Ferrell and Virgil Ferrell of Melville.

He was a workaholic and passionate about life. He retired as an Electrical Sales Engineer spending the majority of his career in and around the coal mines. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. He loved the simple things in life and could always make you smile. His hobbies included a fun game of poker and stock car racing.

He was also preceded in death by his brother, Eddie Allen Ferrell.

Rick is survived by his wife, Becky (Jarrell) Ferrell of Yawkey, two sons, Timothy (Miranda) Jarrell of Scott Depot and Justin (Brooklyn) Ferrell of Yawkey; two daughters, Kelly (Rob) Ferrell of Powder Springs, GA and Kristen Ferrell of Morgantown; brother, Danny (Deneen) Ferrell of McKenzie, TN; 7 grandchildren, Madison Jarrell, Emilee Jarrell, Gage Jarrell, Isabella Jarrell, Alexis Ferrell, Jasmine Darden, and Aaliyah Ferrell; along with 5 nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 3:00-5:00 p.m., Friday, October 1, 2021, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek.

Tanie Marie McCormick

Tanie Marie McCormick of Sod, WV, died peacefully with the comfort and support of her family by her side on September 27, 2021, at Charleston General Hospital following a brief illness.

Tanie was born September 3, 1957, to Billy and Virginia McCormick. She was preceded in Death by her brother, Timothy E. McCormick, nephew Timothy J. McCormick, and great-great niece LillyAnna Grace Hoffman.

She is survived by six siblings. Patty (Don) Mosteller of Sod, WV, Jim (Mary) McCormick of Teays Valley, WV, Yvonne Beam of Jane Lew, WV, Tom (Ann) McCormick of Cadiz, Kentucky, William (Teresa) McCormick of Jane Lew, WV, and Jodi (David) Watson of Morgantown, WV.

Tanie was a homemaker. She attended Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church located in Sod, WV. She had a quiet presence who always greeted everyone with her sweet smile, gentle hug, and a pat on the back to show her love. She was her siblings baby sister who they adored and sheltered, and a second mother to her nieces and nephews who she showered with love and warmth.

Tanie considered all of her nieces and nephews as her own children, and she impacted their lives throughout the years by showering them with love and care. Always supporting them and encouraging them and celebrating their accomplishments. They are Angie (Kim) Cecil, Kim (Mike) McCoy, John Mosteller, Mary Beth Lewis , Richard McCormick, Jamie (Chris) Mallory, Craig (Gerilyn) Beam, Chandra Beam, Carrie (Mark Paugh), Tammy (Charlie) Lovejoy, Thoma “Nikki” (David) Roy, Katelyn (Allison) Belcher, Olivia (Luke) Belcher, Elizabeth (Trey) Staggs, Sarah McCoy, Brooke McCormick, Makayla Beam, Chase Beam, Caleb Beam, Aaron Beam, Taylor Beam, Cole Hunt, Luke Lovejoy, Bria (Kyle) Lovejoy, Grae Roy, Jolene Mallory, Gunner and Bowen Belcher, Jacob and Justin Mosteller, and Callan O’Brien.

A graveside service and burial will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday September 30, 2021, at Pine Grove Cemetery, Sumerco with Pastor Mark Ruby officiating.

Dennis Ray Nicholas

Dennis Ray Nicholas, 77, of Tornado, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, September 23, 2021, at CAMC Teays Valley Hospital.

Dennis was a longtime, faithful member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, St. Albans. He retired from Charleston Steel and was a former employee of Trojan Steel. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, and gardening. He served his country as a member of the United States Army Reserve.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Lillian Nicholas and his wife, Carolyn Sue Tudor Nicholas.

Dennis is survived by his children & their spouses, Wayne & Rebecca Nicholas of Tornado, Brian & Kim Nicholas of Michigan, and Paula Fleck of Florida; brother, Cephas Nicholas of Tornado; grandchildren, Craig Nicholas of Tornado, Carson, Carter, & Kara Nicholas of Michigan, Ashley Adkins & Allyson Fleck of Florida.

Service will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, September 27, 2021, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, St. Albans, with Pastor Craig Gillenwater officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Virgil A. Brogan

Virgil A. Brogan, 79, of Sod, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, September 20, 2021, at CAMC Hospice.

He was a retired engineer from CSX with 39 years of service. On Friday, September 17, 2021, Virgil accepted Jesus into his life and the following Monday, joined the love of his life, his wife of 56 years, Sue.

Virgil was also preceded in death by his parents, Daner and Julia Brogan; sister and brother-in-law, Evetta and Lowell Pauley.

He is survived by sons, Tim (Regina) of Sod, and Mark (Jill) of Weston; grandsons, Jacob (Brittany) Brogan, Colby (Laura) Brogan, and Isaac Brogan (Haley Adkins); great grandchildren, Emery, Garrett, and Sutton.

Service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 25, 2021, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Robert McCallister officiating. Burial will follow at Lively Cemetery, Sod. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Annie Price DeBord

Annie Price DeBord, formerly of South Charleston died on Thursday, September 16, 2021 in Shepherdstown, WV.

Annie was born on February 5, 1929 to Blake and Minnie Price and was the last surviving member of her birth family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. “Jim” DeBord (1975); her son, Charles E. DeBord II (1979); and her grandson, Drew M. Miller (2009).

Annie is survived by her sons, Michael (Renee) of Conway, SC; Jeffrey (Liz) of Martinsburg, WV; Kevin (Candy) of Germantown, TN; daughters Brenda (Thomas) Miller of Charlotte, NC; April (Robert) Schumacher of Princeton, WV and daughter-in-law Beverly Cardwell DeBord of St. Louis, MO.  She leaves 13 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

Service will be at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, WV on Friday, September 24, 2021 at 1pm, with Pastor Gene Pauley officiating.  Burial will be at Graceland Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service – masks optional.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Burlin Winchell Eskew

Burlin Winchell Eskew, 81, of South Charleston, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, September 12, 2021, after a long illness. He was born January 19, 1940, at Brounland, WV.

Burlin was preceded in death by his parents Kyle and Edith Cantley Eskew of Walton, WV; two brothers, Ervin and Alford of Alum Creek; and one sister, Vergie LaBranch of Kissimmee, FL.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Janice “Sue” Eskew; three sons, Roger and Charlene of Scott Depot, Gary Sr. of Davis Creek, and Michael and Melissa of Spring Hill; one sister, Linda Bailey of St. Albans; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 18, 2021, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastors Tommy Roberts and Charles Sisk officiating. Burial will be at a later date at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston.

Ritchie Robert Cooper, 49, of Nitro, passed away Sunday, September 5, 2021, at CAMC Memorial Hospital.

Ritchie was a 1989 graduate of Duval High School and a former juvenile correction officer with the State of WV at Robert L. Shell Juvenile Center. Ritchie loved the outdoors and camping.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Narci Cooper and great nephew, Caleb Skeenes.

Ritchie is survived by fiancé, Shelly George; daughter, Jordan Cooper; father; Bernard Cooper; sisters, Lynda (Ken) Lawrence and Elizabeth Turner; brothers, Alan (Rita) Cooper and Bruce (Linda) Cooper; nieces and nephews, Nikki Hughes, Chelsie Shaffer, Zach Cooper, and Blake Cooper; great nieces and nephews, Olivia Hughes, Jalen Chanel, and Tylin Turner.

A private service has been scheduled. Ritchie will be laid to rest at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey, WV.
