Elsie Loftis McCormick, 95, of Alkol, WV, born April 13, 1926 went to be with the Lord Friday, July 16, 2021. She was the 10th of eleven children born to William Ira and Pearlie Missouri Hill Loftis.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Clyde McCormick, who were recognized as the longest married couple in the great state of West Virginia for the year 2017; sons, Norman Kyle, James Darrell and Denzil Wayne McCormick; sisters, Elva Justice and Ina Quintrell McCallister; brothers, Ray, Earl, Estil, Virgil, Elwood, Ted, Irvin, and Wilmer Loftis.

Elsie is survived by daughters, Patsy McCormick, Glennis (Johnny) Lipscomb and Donna McCormick; son, Clifford (Michele) McCormick; 14 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren.

Service will be 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek with Pastor Butch Loftis officiating. Burial will follow at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Dorothy A. Waldron

Dorothy A. Waldron, 74, of Sod, WV, went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 16, 2021, at home after a long battle with cancer.

She was a member of Forks of Coal Missionary Baptist Church in Alum Creek.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Waldron; daughter, Stephanie Waldron Sansom; and mother, Betty Rabel.

She is survived by her son-in-law, Jerry Sansom and his wife, Angela; two grandchildren, Jessica and Jeremy Sansom.

At Dorothy’s request a graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 19, 2021, at Lively Cemetery, Sod, WV, with Pastor Keith George officiating. Family and friends are welcome to attend.

Larry Allen Walker

Larry Allen Walker, 78, of Alum Creek, passed away Tuesday, July 13, 2021, at Hubbard Hospice House.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Lora Walker; grandson, Timothy Walker; and three brothers.

Larry is survived by sons, Scott Allen (Carole) Walker and Troy Dean Walker; daughter, Jami (Joe) Saul; grandchildren, Michael, Kyle, Veronika, and Gordon Walker, Tanner and Maddy Saul; three great grandchildren; and dog, Jack.

Larry retired from Verizon after 30 years of dedicated work. He was a proud member of the United States Air Force and served in the Vietnam War. He was also a member of the Kanawha Ski Club for may years, where he met many of his lifelong friends. He was an avid sports fan, always cheering for WVU, the Cincinnati Reds, and the Appalachian Power.

Service will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, July 16, 2021, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Jody Pistore officiating. Military rites by Alum Creek VFW Post 4768 will follow the service. Burial will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, July 19, 2021, at Spring Hill Cemetery, Charleston. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the Funeral Home.

Larry had a soft spot for animals, especially dogs, so in lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Kanawha Humane Society, 1248 Greenbrier Street, Charleston, WV 25311.

Wyson Mac Bartley

Wyson Mac Bartley, 67, of Beckley, passed away Friday, July 9, 2021, at Raleigh General Hospital.

He was a Coal Mine Truck driver.

Wyson was preceded in death by his parents James and Iva Bartley.

He is survived by sisters, Hettie Bass and Billie Bender; brothers, Frederick and Paul Bartley.

Wyson will be cremated and there are no services scheduled at this time.

Beloved husband, father and Gramps Tree Farm left this earth for his heavenly home on Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at the age of 83.

He was a Christian and worshiped with the Alum Creek Church of Christ.

He was born in Griffithsville, WV on April 18, 1938, to the late Percy W. and Dorothy C. (McCallister) Wilkerson.

He was a 1956 graduate of Duval High School and a 1960 graduate of Marshall University. He began teaching at Duval High School in 1960 and went on to become its vice-principal and principal, having taken a few years away from Duval High School to guide the Lincoln County School System as their Superintendent of Schools. He retired as the principal of Duval High School in 1989. He was currently serving as an elected member of the Lincoln County Board of Education. He loved the years he served the students of Lincoln County and made a big difference in the lives of so many. His outstanding character lives on in the many students who have so graciously contacted him over the years to thank him for being such an inspiration to them. It should be noted that teaching science was his favorite part of his entire educational career.

After retirement, he was able to devote his fulltime attention to his farm, Wilkerson Christmas Tree Farm, that he began with his wife in the spring of 1971. He was proud to be celebrating the 50-year anniversary of his farm and cherished the relationships he had developed over those years with his many loyal customers. He also was proud to serve as secretary of the West Virginia Christmas Tree Grower’s Association for many years.

Larry married the love of his life, Syble Browning, on August 23, 1960, and was able last year to celebrate 60 wonderful years of marriage with his devoted wife.

Preceding him in death were his parents and two sisters, Orda Wittamore and Sharon Gonzales.

Surviving are his wife, Syble; daughter Jackie Harper and her husband Jeff, whom he considered more a son than a son-in-law; his daughter Tracie (Brent) Belcher; three grandchildren: Britney (Jake) Brogan, Emily Belcher, and his only grandson who he dearly loved and will continue his tree farm legacy, Landin (Katelyn) Harper; five great-grandchildren: Addy, Dylan, Emery, Carson and Garrett. He is also survived by his unofficially adopted son Todd Flowers and his faithful farm companion, Shep.

To live in the hearts of those we love is not to die.

We will miss you and love you always, until we meet again.

A private graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 10, 2021. Burial will be at the Wilkerson Christmas Tree Farm Cemetery, Griffithsville, WV. Minister Joseph Watts officiating.

In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation in his honor to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Christopher Dime Wilson, 40, of Charleston, passed away Thursday, July 1, 2021.

Christopher was preceded in death by his father, Gilbert Dime Wilson, Jr.

He is survived by his mother, Helen Triska Wilson; sister, Angie Cornell; and brothers, Greg, Gilbert, Nick, and Josh Wilson.

Per Christopher’s wishes, he will be cremated. There are no services scheduled at this time.

Timothy Paul McCallister, 31, of Sod, WV, on eagle’s wings took the next step in his journey Sunday, July 4, 2021.

His work in landscaping was not just a job, but his passion.

Tim was predeceased by his grandparents, Phyllis Ann Holbrook and Emma Jean McCallister.

He is survived by his mother, Vanieca (Nisa) Holbrook; father & stepmother, Robert and Yvonne McCallister; step-sister Shonna (Josh) Peters; paternal grandfather, David McCallister; maternal special grandmother, Lois Whaley and maternal grandparents, Jerrell and Marcella Holbrook; aunts and uncles, Glenn and Monia Turley, who were like his second parents, Clifton (Amy) Holbrook, Branita (Randy) Bratka, Kim (Richard) Kollmeyer, Gary G. (Rosemary) McCallister, Sam (Connie) Runyon and Tammy (Wade) Endicott; nieces and nephew, Mattison, Ashton and Avery; and a host of relatives and friends who loved Tim and will dearly miss him.

A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 8, 2021 at Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek.

The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service.

In keeping with Tim’s wishes, he will be cremated following the service

Daryle Gene Elkins

Daryle G. Elkins, 86, of Alkol, passed on to his Heavenly home Monday, July 5, 2021, after a life well lived in dedication to his family and community.

Daryle was a graduate of Duval High School, Morris Harvey College, and West Virginia University. He retired with 40 years of service from Lincoln County Schools where he served as principal, coach, and Vocational School Director. He was a six-year member of the West Virginia Air National Guard and was also a 58-year member of Griffithsville Lodge No. 71 and a member of The Scottish Rite, Charleston.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Arb and Bernice Elkins.

Daryle is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, G. Jean Elkins; his two children, Shann (Heather) Elkins and Stacy (Ric) Leadman; his brother, James Edward “Bob” (Pat) Elkins; and his grandchildren, Kelsey (Tyler) Compston, Alaina Leadman, Caroline, Cade, Cole, and Camden Elkins.

Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Phil Suiter and Andy McClure officiating. Burial with Masonic graveside rites will be held at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey, WV. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Emery Roy Mannon, Jr.

Emery Roy Mannon, Jr., 62, of Sod, passed away Friday, June 25, 2021, at home.

Emery served his country as a member of the United States Army with the 101st Airborne Division.

Per his wishes, Emery will be cremated. There are no services scheduled at this time.

Clifford Ray Pauley

Clifford Ray Pauley, 79, of Yawkey went home to be with the Lord Thursday, June 24, 2021, at Hubbard Hospice House West, South Charleston.

Born August 12, 1941, he was the son of the late Clayton Dean and Edna Pauley. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Clayton.

Clifford was a member of Fountain of Life Church in Foster, WV and served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After his service, he was a member of the Alum Creek VFW Post 4768. He was a supervisor with Heiner’s Bakery for over 30 years. He and his wife ran the Community Grocery Store in Sod for several years and purchased Sod Exxon, which they ran for years until retiring.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Vivian; son Timothy; and sister, Carolyn (Kenneth) Stone of Edgewater, FL.

Service will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, June 27, 2021, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Reverend Jim Oxendine and Pastor Richard McCallister officiating. Burial with military graveside rites by Alum Creek VFW Post 4768 will follow at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
