Mortana McCormick, 73, of Sod died Tuesday, September 21, 1999 at home after a long illness.

She was a member of the Alum Creek Church of Christ, attended Moms Harvey College Charleston and was a school teacher at Angel Branch Elementary in Lincoln County. She was an employee of Cabin Creek Quilts, where she served on the Board ofDirectors and was also a member ofMountain Artisans. She was an avid gardener and was well known for her day lilies.

She is survived by her: 1 Daughter: Linda Dunlap of Alum Creek, W V; 2 Sons: David McCormick of Sod, WV; Michael McCormick of Lecantq FL; 1 Brother: Morton “Pal” Griffith of Teays Valley, WV; 6 Grandchildren: Jay &Chris Dunlap, David Jr., Daniel and Lana McCormick and LeAnn Bonnett; 4 Great Grandsons: Elijah, Cody, Weston &Dylan 3 Nieces: Leta Caplinger, Katrina Zitnik &Helene Dockery

Services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, September25, 1999 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Minister Richard Runyan and Minister Charles McKinney officiating. Burial will be in Lively Cemetery, Sod. John Houston Burgess, 37, of Brounland Road, Alum Creek, died Monday, September 20, 1999 at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston, after a long illness.

He was a former mechanic for B & J Welding in Sissonville before he became disabled.

Glenn Lawson, 78, of Yawkey, Lincoln County died September 17, 1999 at Lincoln Continuous Care Hamlin, West Virginia after a long illness.

Glenn was born and resided in Yawkey until recent years. He was a devout Christian and a lifetime member of Porter Fork Baptist Church, Yawkey. Glenn previously worked for Gritt Newspaper as a delivery person. He enjoyed Christian Fellowship and was an avid reader of Christian Literature. Family and friends will remember Glenn for his cheerful demeanor, friendly disposition and love of family and friends.

Wallace L. “Gus” Miller

Wallace L. “Gus” Miller, 82, of Alkol died Friday, September 17, 1999 at CAMC Memorial Division after an extended illness.

He was a retired construction and design foreman for Union Carbide Tech Center in South Charleston. He was a former deacon and Sunday school superintendent at Left Fork Baptist and taught the men’s Sunday school class at Sycamore Grove Baptist Church. He was a WWII Army Veteran.

He is survived by his: Wife: Emma J.; 1 Son: Gregory Miller of Alkol, WV; 1 Sister: Christine Ferrell of Alkol, WV.

Services will be 1:00 PM on Sunday, September 19, 1999 at the Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Bill Pistore and Pastor Randall Kinder officiating. Burial will be held in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

He was a retired iron worker, a member of UMW District 17, a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church, Garretts Bend, a life long resident of Lincoln County and a WWII Army veteran. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Ruby.
