Paul Hart, 54 of Charleston, died Monday, December 18, 2000 at WVU Medical Center after a short illness.

He was a native of Guyton, Georgia and a resident of Charleston, West Virginia since 1975. He was a Ph.D. chemist and graduate of the University of Georgia. He was an Associate Laboratory Director for the National Energy Technology Laboratory, U.S. Department of Energy Office of Environmental Quality and Nuclear Security Morgantown, West Virginia, and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was a Union Carbide Corporate R & D chemist from 1974-1992. He was a member of the Executive Committee of the American Nuclear Society’s Decommissioning, Decontamination and Reutilization Division. He was also a past president of the Charleston Lions Club, Young Republican Party, and the Kanawha County Republican Executive Committee. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Guyton, Georgia. He was a board member of the American Conservative Union.

He is survived by his: Wife: Judy; Mother: Frances Hart of Guyton, GA; 1 Brother: Gene Hart of Guyton, GA; 1 Sister: Pat Nutting of Guyton, GA.

Services will be held on Thursday, December 21, 2000 at 10:00 AM at Zion Lutheran Church, 120 Noel Conway Road, Guyton, GA with Pastor Ohsiek officiating. Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek in charge of arrangements.

Myrtle Gay Kuhn

Myrtle Gay Kuhn, 79 of Alum Creek, died Saturday, December 16, 2000 at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston, after a long illness.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Alum Creek Independent Missionary Baptist Church.

She is survived by her: Husband: James Lloyd Kuhn; 4 Sons: Larry Talerico of New Orleans, LA; Rodger Kuhn of Alum Creek, WV; Thomas Kuhn of Alum Creek, W V; David Kuhn of Alum Creek, WV; 1 Brother: Amos Nesselrotte of Little Birch, WV; 2 Sisters: Ada Dees of Wewahitchka, FL; Freda Davis of Crystal River, FL; 5 Grandchildren: James Kuhn and Rhonda Roberts Kuhn, Michael Talerico, Stephen Kuhn, Albert Joseph Talerico.

Services will be held at the Alum Creek Independent Missionary Baptist Church on Tuesday, December 19, 2000 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will be held at the Forks of Coal Memorial Park, Alum Creek. Friends may call on Monday, December 18, 2000 from 7 to 9 PM at the church. Ruth Spradling Mitchell

Ruth Spradling Mitchell, 79 of South Charleston, died Thursday, December 7, 2000 at CAMC Memorial Division after a long illness.

She was a homemaker, a member of the Forks of Coal Missionary Baptist Church, and a former pianist at the Lick Branch Free Will Baptist Church.

She is survived by her: Husband: Emmett L.; 2 Daughters: Norine Webb of Gallatin, TN; Helen Jarrell of Beckley, WV; 1 Step-Son: Frank Mitchell of Charleston, W V; 2 Step- Daughters: Penny Fockler of Charleston, WV; Melanie Williamson of Charleston, WV; 16 Grandchildren; 20 Great Grandchildren.

Services will be held at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, on Sunday, December 10, 2000 at 2:00 PM with Pastor David Cyphers and Rev. David Mitchell officiating. Burial will be held in Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston. Friends may call on Saturday, December 9, 2000 from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home.

Josephine Opal Gillenwater

Josephine Opal Gillenwater, 79 of Winfield, formerly of St. Albans died Monday, December 4, 2000 at Riverside Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, St. Albans after a long illness.

She was a Baptist and a companion and caregiver for the elderly.

She is survived by her: 2 Sons: Jerry Stewart of Mesquite, TX; Daniel Gillenwater of Tornado, WV; 1 Daughter: Patricia Gillespie of Vermilion, OH; 3 Grandchildren; 5 Great Grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey on Wednesday, December 6, 2000 at 3:00 PM with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. There will not be a visitation. Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, in care of arrangements.

He was a carpenter and a life long resident of Lincoln county.

He is survived by his: 1 Son: Sparky Bowman of Scott Depot, WV; 2 Brothers: General Bowman of Alum Creek, WV; Paul Bowman of Alum Creek, W V; 1 Sister: Kay Fannin of Dunbar, WV; 2 Grandchildren: Watson Ray and April Dawn; 3 Great Grandsons: Taylor James, Marcus, and Kaden.

Services will be held on Wednesday, December 6, 2000 at 1:00 PM with Rev. Jackie Miller officiating. Burial will be held in Bowman Family Cemetery, Alum Creek. Friends may call on Tuesday, December 5, 2000 from 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home.

Ernestine “Renee” Whitlock, 41, of St. Albans died Friday, December 1, 2000 at home after a short illness.

She was formerly a customer representative for AT&T. She was preceded in death by her father, William Allen, sister Sharon Harrison and brother Michael Allen.

She is survived by her: Husband: Wayne Whitlock; Daughter: Tasha Whitlock of St. Albans, WV; Son: Michael Whitlock of St. Albans, WV; Foster Son: Joseph McGlaughin of North Carolina; Mother: Anna K. Allen of St. Albans, WV; 6 Brothers: William Allen of Pennsylvania; Gary Allen of St. Albans, WV; Jeffrey Allen of Ohio; Patrick Allen of Colliers, WV; Eric Allen of South Dakota; Jerry Lee Allen of St. Albans, WV; 1 Granddaughter: MacKenzie Whitlock.

Kenneth C. Humphries, 75 of Charleston, died Wednesday, November 29, 2000 at St. Francis Hospital, Charleston after a long illness.

He was a WWII Navy veteran. He was a retired electrical engineer for Capitol Cablevision, a member of the Spirit of Life Church, Dunbar. He was area director of Operation Blessing and treasurer for Tri State Christian Counseling Services and Business Men’s Fellowship USA.

He is survived by his: Wife: Tina; 2 Sons: Lee Nelson Humphries of Hurricane, WV; Clifford Humphries of Kanawha City, WV; 1 Daughter: Hayley Humphries at home;
1 Step-Son: E.J. Huffman at home; 1 Sister: Vivian Neal of Oak Hill, WV; 2 Grandchildren: Matt & Rachael.

Services will be held at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, on Saturday, December 2, 2000 at 12:00 PM with Pastor Michael Dent officiating. Burial will be held in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey. Friends may call Friday, December 1, 2000 from 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home.

Hugh O. Jones, 80 of Griffithsville, died Wednesday, November 29, 2000 at home after a long illness.

He was a retired store manager for Rose Shopping Center, Alum Creek , a WWII Army Veteran where he served as a member of the Old Ironside 1st Armored Division.

He was a POW for 27 months and recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Alum Creek VFW Post # 4768 and a former member of the Alum Creek Lions Club.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Rita Lilly.

He is survived by: Wife: Louise; 5 Sons Gene Ray Jones of Norfolk, VA; Olin Lee Jones of Griffithsville, W V; Ralph Edward of Griffithsville, WV; Bryant Keith of Griffithsville, WV; Kenneth Alan Jones of Griffithsville, WV; 1 Daughter: Sheila Jamison of Morgantown, WV; 10 Grandchildren; Special Caregiver: Katie Runyon of Sias, WV; Special Friend: Bill Turley of Sod, WV.
