Jonathan Allen Bertram, 23, of Alum Creek, died Monday, June 27, 2005.

He was a 1999 graduate of Duval High School.

He is survived by his parents, Billy and Betty Bertram of Alum Creek; brother, Billy Bertram, Jr. of Alum Creek; sister, Miranda Lynn Bertram of Alum Creek; paternal grandparents, Charles and Alta Bertram of Blair; two God daughters, Jozelyn McKenzy May Pauley and Makala Jade Smith; many close and dear friends.

Services will be 2:00 PM on Thursday, June 30, 2005 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will be held in Midkiff Cemetery, Sumerco. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Janice C. Markins

Janice C. Markins, 70, of Winfield, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 26, 2005, at the home of her daughter, Donna Patterson of Concord, Virginia after a brief illness.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; son, “Jimbo” and granddaughter, Amanda.

Janice is also survived by her other daughter, Debbie Lacy of Chazlottesville, Virginia; two sons, Rick and Rodney Markins both of Winfield; four sisters, Jewell Hutton of Rutland, Ohio, Joyce Vickers of Bald Knob, Sue Hastings of Gordon, and Linda Moore of Madison; four brothers, Noel Rowe of Bim, Rev. Phillip Rowe of Gordon, Terry Rowe of Rutland, Ohio, and Tim Rowe of Mt. Vernon, Ohio; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Services will be held 1:00 PM on Wednesday, June 29, 2005 at Gordon Union Church with Rev. Phillip Rowe and Rev. Greg Casto officiating. Burial will be held in Mid-Ferrell Cemetery, Bandytown. Friends may call on Tuesday, June 28, 2005 from 6 to 9 PM at the church. Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, is in care of the arrangements.

She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Her family would like to thank God for blessing them with such a beautiful and wonderful mother.

Leona Hensley

Leona Hensley, 63, of Sod, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 20, 2005 at CAMC General Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hassel Hensley.

Leona was a member of Vision of Harvest Baptist Church, McCorkle and a homemaker.

She is survived by her two daughters, Deliah Cantrell of Procious, Patricia Dawson of Beckley; one son, Wayne Hensley of Beckley; one brother, Walter Young of Beckley; one sister, Eleanor Bowen of Sod; three half-brothers, Jackie Crawford of Spencer, Larry Crawford of Florida, Robert Crawford; two half-sisters, Carolyn and Pasty Crawford both of Florida; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, June 23, 2005 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Jimmy Mitchell and Pastor Bill Silva officiating. Burial will be held in Lively Cemetery, Sod. Friends may call on Wednesday from 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home.

Barbara “June” Smith

Barbara “June” Smith, 66, of Alum Creek, died Monday, June 20, 2005 peacefully at home with her loved ones at her side after an extended illness.

She was preceded in death by her father, Everett Hall and her son, John “Scott” Smith.

June was born and raised in Dunbar and was a 1956 graduate of Dunbar High School. She was a Christian of the Baptist faith and a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker.

June leaves behind her husband of 43 yeazs, Shelburn “Eddie” Smith; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Bob Bayless, and her pride and joy granddaughter, Shelby Elizabeth Bayless, step grandson, James Robert Bayless all of Alum Creek; step-granddaughter, Brandi Goodall of St. Albans; mother, Lena Hall and sister, Linda Dowdy both ofAlum Creek, brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Nancy Hall of York, South Cazolina, Jim and Shigeko Hall of York, Pennsylvania.

Services will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 23, 2005 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman and Pastor Butch Leadman officiating. Burial will be held in Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbaz. Friends may call on Wednesday from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home.

Douglas R. Waldron

Douglas R. Waldron , 59, of Sod, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, June 18, 2005 at home after a seven-month battle with cancer.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dennis Waldron, of Alum Creek.

He was employed by Walker Machinery Company for 18 years, currently as the Used Parts Manager in Diamond. Doug was a member of the Forks of Coal Missionary Baptist Church, Alum Creek, and the Griffithsville Masonic Lodge 71 AF & AM. He was successfully elected as a Lincoln County Commissioner from 1996-2000 and was a trustee of the Lively Cemetery at Sod.

Doug not only was a devoted husband, and a wonderful father, but a loving trustworthy friend and companion. He is loved and will be sadly missed. We are all so proud of him for remaining brave and strong even during the toughest hours. And we have peace knowing that he is walking pain free among the angels.

Doug is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Dorothy Waldron, his daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Jerry Sansom, and his precious 15 month old granddaughter, Jessica, all of Sod; mother, Doris Waldron; sister and brother-in-law, Deanna and Stan McKean all of St. Albans, and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Betty and Hubert Rabel of Sod.

Service will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 21, 2005 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor David Cyphers officiating. Burial will be in the Lively Cemetery at Sod. Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 PM Monday at the Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, WV.

Margaret M. “Margie”Fisher, daughter of the late Henry A. and Frances Verna Fisher, died June 16, 2005 at the age of 86.

Margie was born on January 3, 1919 in Charleston, West Virginia. Margie was preceded in death by her beloved brother and caretaker, Henry S. Fisher, Sr., and a sister, Earnestine Lewis.
Margie and her dad had made their home with her brother, Henry and his wife Mildred. She continued to live with her brother after her Dad’s death for 40 years. When her brother, Henry died in 1973 she then went to live with her nephew, Henry Steve Fisher, Jr., and his wife, Mary. She lived with Steve even after Mary’s death in 1989. After many years of living with Steve he found himself unable to care for her needs and she then came to live with her niece, Donna and husband, Edward Moore of Charleston. Throughout Margaret’s life she had lived with her nephew, Steve and nieces, Esther Hudson and Donna Moore.

Margaret belonged to the Ivydale Baptist Church in Charleston where she would attend when she was able. Because of her disabilities and the need for more care, Margaret went to live at Heartland Nursing Home. She had some very special people taking care of her. She also had a “best friend” whom she roomed with named “Annie”. She meant a lot to Margie. Because of her disabilities after she was born, they said she wouldn’t live long, but in Margie’s words, “I fool you”.

Margaret is survived by sister-in-law, Mildred Fisher of Circleville, OH; nephew, Henry Steve Fisher, Jr., of Melbourne, FL; nieces, Esther Hudson of Circleville, OH and Donna Moore of Charleston; two great nieces and five great nephews and several great-great nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

We are going to miss you Margie, but we will see you one day and you will have a brand new body.

Graveside service and burial will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, June 18, 2005 at Spring Hill Cemetery, Chazleston with Pastor Clarence Hutton officiating. Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek is in chazge of arrangements.

Ronald Vickers

Ronald Vickers, 52, of Alkol died Tuesday, May 31, 2005. We sadly lost a beloved soul when Ronald went to be the Lord.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dwayne and Roger Vickers.

Ronald was a heavy equipment operator for McClure Logging of Alkol.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Sue; children, Shazon Browning of Barboursville, Rebecca Elkins and Tommy Vickers both of Alkol; siblings, Victor and Lawrence Vickers, Yvonne Dotson and Denna Adkins all of Alkol, Linda Lambert of Uneeda; five grandchildren, Lakeria, Johnathon, Caitlan, Roby, and Kelsie; many nieces, nephews and friends.

He will be missed and was loved by all.

Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, June 3, 2005 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Chuck Adkins officiating. Burial will be held in Vickers Family Cemetery, Alkol. Friends may call on Thursday from 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home.

Raymond Eugene Pauley

Raymond Eugene Pauley, 78, of Emmons, went through Heaven’s open gate to his Heavenly home on Monday, May 30, 2005 after a long illness.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Mandy Pauley; a son Johnny, brothers, Russell, Howazd and Edwazd Pauley and a grandson, Danny Raye Pauley.

Raymond was a retired coal miner and a mechanic by trade, his hobbies included hunting, fishing and camping.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 yeazs, Emma; three sons, Danny Pauley of Ashford, Clyde and David Pauley both of Emmons; three daughters, Susan Baileys and Doris Sidwell both of Elizabeth, Donna Adkins of Ridgeview; two brothers, Sidney and Ernie Pauley of Emmons; two sisters, Loraine Gillispie of Emmons and Tressie Barker ofAshford; 13 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Services will be 1:00 PM on Thursday, June 2, 2005 at the Emmons Church of God with Rev. Michael Graley officiating. Burial will be held in the Gillispie Cemetery, Emmons. Friends may call on Wednesday, from 6 to 9 PM at the church. Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, is in care of the arrangements.

Susan Deanna Corns, 59, of So. Chazleston, went home to be with the Lord Sunday May 22, 2005 at home after a long illness.

She was a former school teacher and employee of the Social Security Administration and a former member of the Ruth Community Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jennings H. & Sibyl McCoy Corns.

She is survived by her:

Anna Lou Adams

Anna Lou Adams, 74, of Alum Creek, went home to be with the Lord Monday May 23, 2005 at CAMC Memorial Division after a long illness.

She was preceded in death by her husband J.C. Adams; daughter, Cynthia Jane Adams; mother, Sally Mitchell and sister, Lois Stevens.

She is survived by her:
