Freddie E. Goins

Freddie E. Goins, 76, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 11, 2006 at Thomas Memorial Hospital after an extended illness.

He was born June 19, 1929 at Ruth, West Virginia to the late Luther and Verna Goins. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Jess and Roy; sisters, Leona Slater, Loraine Crane and Ethel Pauley.

He was retired from O.K. Trucking with 30 years of service and was a member of Teamsters Union Local #175. He faithfully served as a member of Davis Creek Nazarene Church.

He is survived by his wife, Helen; son, Gary and wife, Ruth Ann; daughter, Gail and her husband, Dennis Kincer; two sisters, Elsie Lore of Florida and Ruby Higginbotham of Hurricane; five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Service will be held Wednesday, February 15, 2006 at 11:00 AM at Davis Creek Nazarene Church with Pastor John Anderson officiating. Burial will be held at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes. Visitation will be 6 to 8 PM Tuesday, February 14, 2006 at the Davis Creek Nazarene Church.

The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses at Thomas Memorial Hospital for their professional and compassionate care and also to the many friends who have been so faithful to help in so many ways.

Edith Arlene Harrison, 78, of Brounland, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, February 7, 2006 at home surrounded by family and friends.

She was a homemaker, attended Briar Creek Baptist Church and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wallace and Grace Williams; brother, Stanley Williams; son, Cameron Eugene and daughter, Teresa Lynn.

She is survived by her husband, James Paul; three sons, James Allen Harrison of Florida, Richard L. Harrison of Alum Creek, and Brett Harrison of Poca; five daughters, Mona Lisa Taylor, Arletta Sue Anderson, Deloria McCormick and Dewanna Flowers all of Alum Creek, Geneva DeBord of Parkersburg; two brothers, Rondal Williams of Alum Creek and Carl Williams of Chelyan; four sisters, Melva Hudson of St. Albans, Evelyn “Sis” Jackson of Alum Creek, Gloria Dodd of Nitro, Louise Curry of Alum Creek; 16 grandchildren, eight grandchildren and host of friends.
Service will be 2:00 PM Friday, February 10, 2006 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will be in Brounland Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 PM Thursday at the funeral home.

Phyllis Jean Lawson Estep

Phyllis Jean Lawson Estep, 68, of Ruth, departed this life and went home to be with the Lord on Monday, February 6, 2006 with her husband and brother at her side.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Brookie Lawson; brothers, Oather and Donald; sister, Elizabeth Lawson Hundley Fletcher.

Phyllis was a Christian, a member of Trinity Independent Baptist Church, and formerly a cook at Hog Jaw’s Restaurant in Ruth.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, James F. “Jimmy” Estep; son, Allan Estep and wife, Tammy of Victoria, Texas; sister, Marzina Brown and husband, Sam of Mason County; brothers and their spouses Kermit and Connie Lawson of Charleston, Dayton and Doris Lawson of Virginia; a lot of nieces and nephews and a very special cousin, Mary Ann Matson of Parkersburg.

Services will be 2:00 PM on Thursday, February 9, 2006 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Oren Thornhill officiating. Burial will be held in Forks of Coal Memorial Park, Alum Creek. Friends may call on Wednesday, February 8, 2006 from 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home.

Franklin D. Goff

Franklin D. Goff, 64, of South Charleston, died Sunday, February 5, 2006 at home after a long illness.

He was a retired painter and a member of the Trinity Baptist Church.

He is survived by his son, Franklin D. “Frankie” Goff, II of South Charleston; mother, Helen V. Carrier of South Charleston; grandson, Noah B. Nichols of North Carolina; brothers, Robert L. Goff of St. Albans, Gary W. Goff of Petersburg, Indiana; sisters, Bonnie J. Runyan of Alum Creek, Virginia L. Hunt of South Charleston; caregiver, Mary Pauley.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 8, 2006 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastors Gene Pauley and Oren Thornhill officiating. Burial will be held in Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston. Friends may call on Tuesday from 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home.

Larry Allen Sutphin, Jr.

Larry Allen Sutphin, Jr. – Tornado: Born December 22, 1965 in Norristown, Pennsylvania died Sunday, January 29, 2006 in Winchester, Virginia after a short illness at age 40.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Brian Sutphin; grandparents, Ira and Matilda Sutphin and Fred and Louise Chandler.

Larry was a sprinkler fitter, a member of Local 669 and a 1984 graduate of St. Albans High School.

He is survived by:

Sister: Donna Simmons and husband, Kirby of St. Albans

James D. “Jim” Holstein

James D. “Jim” Holstein, 50, of Sod, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 29, 2006 after an apparent heart attack.

He was a member of Boilermakers Local 667, and a former Production Supervisor at Svedala Industries and GEF, Inc. He also had been employed by Union Carbide’s metal fab shop, Institute
and McJunkin. He was a member of Alum Creek Independent Missionary Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Tamara; daughter, Olivia Anne Holstein; sisters, Rissa Banks, Sue Huffman, and Sandy Pauley all of Alum Creek, Judy Dunlap of McCorkle, Paula Holstein of South Carolina, Gwen Gustafsons of Darby, Montana; brother, Jackie Lee Holstein of Alum Creek.

Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, February 1, 2006 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will be held in Lively Cemetery, Sod. Friends may call on Wednesday one hour prior to service at the funeral home.

Jack Edward Price

Jack Edward Price, 78, of South Charleston, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, January 26, 2006 at Valley Health Center South Charleston.

He retired from Vecellio-Grogan of Beckley as a road construction worker. He attended Davis Creek Church of the Nazarene.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; son, Jack E. Price, II of Martinsburg; sister, Annie DeBord of South Charleston; two grandchildren, Blake Price and Jennifer Schoppert; one great granddaughter, Lillie Jane.

Service will be 1:00 PM Saturday, January 28, 2006 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Gene Pauley officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Memorial Park South Charleston. Friends may call from 7 to 9 PM Friday at the funeral home.

Bob McGhee

Jesus called and he answered. On Saturday, January 21, 2006, Bob McGhee, 61, of Ruth went home to be with Jesus.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Norma McGhee; sister, Sylvia Brogan; and brother, Gary McGhee.

He is survived by his loving family; wife, Patricia McGhee; sons and their wives, Robert “Perry” and Reba McGhee, and Eric and Kara McGhee; one daughter and her husband, Leah and Jason Miller; six grandchildren whom he cherished; Donovan, Robert “BJ”, and Zachary McGhee, Dylan and MacKenzie McGhee, and Daniel Miller; brothers, Paul, Kevin and Doug McGhee; sister, Teresa Burgess, Melinda “Joan” Royer, Marsha Marler, Lydia Bierne, and Sheila Wherle.

Services will be at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, January 24, at Ruth Community Church, where he was a faithful member. Kent Cecil and Robert Harless will officiate. Burial will follow at the Pauley Cemetery at Ruth. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.

Bradley A. Mains

Bradley A. Mains, 34, of Alkol, West Virginia, formerly of Elyria, Ohio died January 19, 2006 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident at Woodville near Alkol, West Virginia.

Born March, 14, 1971, Brad was the son of Logan and Carol Mains of Elyria, Ohio and Judy and Perry Livingston of Alkol, West Virginia.

He was employed by Apple Bee’s of South Charleston. He attended the McCorkle Freewill Baptist Church at McCorkle.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a daughter, Lola Mains of Cleveland, OH; brothers, Michael (wife Shannon) Mains of Amherst, OH; Perry (PJ) Livingston of Alkol, WV; Logan and Ryan Mains of Elyria, OH and David Livingston of Cleveland, OH; maternal grandparents, Edward and Ruth Pridemore of Alkol, WV, many uncles, aunts, cousins and a host of friends.

Brad will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Services will be 11:00 am Monday January 23 at Sunset Memorial Park, North Olmsted, OH with the Rev. James McComas officiating. Burial will follow at the Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may call at Sunset Memorial Park Chapel from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 PM Sunday, January 22, 2006.

Mary Louise Smith Wolfe

Mary Louise Smith Wolfe, 81, of St. Albans, passed away on Friday, January 13, 2006 after a long battle with cancer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lillian Shepherd Smith and William Lawrence Smith of Eleanor; sister, Catherine Smith and her husband, Charles V. Rigney of St. Albans; and great grandson, Cameron Blayke Wolfe.

Mary was born in Charleston on December 11, 1924 and graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School in 1942. She married Russell C. Wolfe on May 23,1943 in Charleston at Calvary Baptist Church and moved to St. Albans, in 1954 where she has been a longtime faithful member of Highlawn Baptist Church.

She was involved with Cub Scouts as a Den Mother, active in PTA and Band Boosters at both McKinley Junior High and St. Albans High School. She loved her church and was very active in the Martha Langley Circle as well as the ladies work at the church. She was a Sunday school teacher at Highlawn Baptist Church, St. Albans where she also served as a deaconess.

She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Russell; son, Lawrence C. Wolfe and special daughter-in-law, Bonnie S. Wolfe, son, William Richard Wolfe all of St. Albans, four grandchildren, Amie Leigh Wolfe Rothstein and husband, David of Newton, New Jersey, Catherine Louise Wolfe Richards and husband, James of Hurricane, Jason Richard Wolfe and wife, Jeanie of Liberty, Jeffrey Lawrence Wolfe and wife, Beth of Bloomington, Indiana. She had 10 great grandchildren she adored and was proud of them all: Kaila Michelle Sigman, Joshua Andrew Sigman, Alanah Nicole Richards, Jason Tyler Wolfe, Tristin Lane Wolfe, Courtland Isaac Wolfe, Sierra Brooke Wolfe, Jordan Lawrence Rothstein, Justin William Rothstein and Joshua David Rothstein. She is also survived by special niece, Becky Rigney Westergaard of Columbus, Ohio, special cousin, Jean Groves Sayre of Decatur, Georgia and special friend, Betty Pierson Williams of Charleston.

Services will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, January 16, 2006 at Highlawn Baptist Church, St. Albans, with Rev. Dr. Pastor Joe Hyde officiating. Burial will be held in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Friends may call on Sunday from 6 to 8 PM at the church. Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, is in care of arrangements.
