Marsha Pauley, 68, of Garretts Bend, went home to be with the Lord at her home on Monday, June 26, 2006.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph T. Pauley, step-father, Dell Matthews, father, Roy Ross and brother, David Matthews.

She was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church.

Marsha is survived by her two daughters, Elynn Wood of Alum Creek, Jill Snyder and husband, Dana of Garretts Bend; three sons, Christopher Ralph, Joey Dell and wife, Orla, and James Scott all of Garretts Bend; mother, Irene Matthews of Alum Creek; five grandchildren, Luke Wood and wife, Amber, Suzanne Burton and husband, Michael, Jett Pauley, Colton Snyder, Annie Grace Pauley
three great grandchildren, Savannah Jane and Abigail Shannon Burton, and Nevaeh Lynn Wood; two brothers, Bill Matthews and wife Gloria “Peaches” of Alum Creek, Steve Matthews and wife, Joyce of Milton; one sister, Francis Elkins and husband, Denver of Midlothain, Virginia.

Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, June 30, 2006 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Minister Earl Williams officiating. Burial will be held in the Pauley Cemetery, Joe’s Creek. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Chloe Saul Hoy

Chloe Saul Hoy, 82 of Charleston went home to Jesus Sunday, June 25, 2006 at Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston.

She was preceded in death by her parents J. H. and Martha McCormick Saul and her son, Stephen Hoy.

She was a member of Forks of Coal Missionary Baptist Church at Alum Creek.

Chloe, a devoted wife and mother was survived by her husband of 63 years, Joseph; daughter a son in law, Barbara Jo Vance and Louie; sons, Barry D. Hoy and wife, Mary, Michael Hoy; sister, Verneece Saul Welch; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Services will be 2:00 PM on Wednesday, June 28, 2006 at the Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastors Frank Chapman, George Pauley and Bill Bartlett officiating.
Burial will be in Forks of Coal Cemetery at Alum Creek. Friends may call from 6 to 8 PM on Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to: Hubbard Hospice House, 1001 Kanawha Drive, Charleston, WV 25311.

Roger Glenn Callentine

Roger Glenn Callentine, 65 of Alum Creek, formerly of Rushville, Ohio and Davin, West Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Friday June 23, 2006, at his residence.

He was born September 17, 1940 in Newcomerstown, Ohio, the son of the late George and Ruth Carr Callentine. He was also preceded in death by three brothers.

Mr. Callentine was a retired auto technician and former owner of Muffler Man in Lancaster and Athens, Ohio. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and attended Davin and Pine Grove Baptist Churches.

Surviving him is his wife of 45 years, Martha “Ninnie” Lester Callentine of Alum Creek, one son, Michael A. “Gena” Callentine of Ruchville, Ohio, two grandsons, Jeremy “Holly” Callentine of Lancaster, Ohio and Zachary Callentine of Rushville, Ohio, one granddaughter, Nikki Callentine of Rushville, Ohio, one great grandson, Levi Callentine of Lancaster, Ohio and one special great niece, Allison Paige Minney of Alum Creek. He is also survived by three brothers, Charles and Bill both of Michigan, James of Florida and one sister Martha Atkinson of Virginia and a host of family and friends that loved him dearly.

Services will be held Sunday, June 25, 2006 at 2:00 PM at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road Alum Creek, West Virginia, with burial following at Highland Memory Gardens in Pecks Mill, West Virginia. Friends may call from 6 to 8 PM Saturday, June 24, 2006 at the Curry Funeral Home in Alum Creek, West Virginia.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers, the men of Davin and Pine Grove Baptist Churches will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Lucy J. Green, 82, of Royal Oak, Michigan, died Wednesday June 21, 2006 at Cambridge Nursing Home, Clawson, Michigan after a long illness.

She is survived by her daughter, Virginia B. Thomason; brother, Denzil Turley; four grandchildren, four great grandchildren.

Services will be held Saturday, June 24, 2006 at 10:00 AM at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will be held in Forks of Coal Cemetery, Alum Creek. Friends may call on Friday from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home.

Harriett C. Rubin

Harriett C. Rubin passed away on June 17, 2006 after a long illness.

Born January 3, 1934, the daughter of Ernest and Flocie Childress of South Charleston. She graduated from South Charleston High School in 1951 and was a graduate of Mason College of Music. She was a bookkeeper and retired from Bob’s Exxon. Harriett was an active member of the Davis Creek Church of the Nazarene where she was recently recognized as one of the longest serving members. Her ministry included women’s ministries, Sunday school teacher, mother and daughter banquet and NYI President. The Church of the Nazarene awarded her with the Distinguished Service Award. She served as church organist for 44 years, providing music for countless weddings and other special occasions. Harriett always responded when friends and family needed emotional or spiritual support in times of illness or loss. She was active as a Scout Leaders wife for troop 57. She developed a close bond with the scout leaders wives and enjoyed many outings with this close group of friends.

Harriett is survived by her husband of 50 years, Bob Rubin, son and wife, Bill and Judy Rubin of Charleston; daughter and husband, Frances and Mark Pack of Charleston; five grandchildren, Kelly and Nikki Pack, Leslie, Candice and Courtney Rubin; sisters, Mary Sheets, Mildred Johnson; brother, Ernest Herman Childress, Jr. of Chesapeake, Virginia.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Flocie Childress, sisters, Margaret Martini and Addie Jo Snyder.

Friends may call Tuesday, June 20, 2006 from 6 to 8 PM at the Davis Creek Church of the Nazarene with services being held at 8:00 PM at the church. A family graveside service will be held at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston, on Wednesday. Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, is in care of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Kanawha Hospice Care of Dunbar.

Nena “Emelie” Willhite, 68, of St. Albans died Saturday, June 17, 2006 in Thomas Memorial Hospital South Charleston after a short illness.

Graveside service will be noon Monday, June 19, 2006 at Spring Hill Cemetery, Charleston. Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek is in charge of arrangements.

Irene D. Loftis, 85, of Sumerco, formerly of Alkol, went home to be with her Lord and Heavenly family on Sunday, July 9, 2006.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Goldie Pauley; husband, Virgil Skitch Loftis; daughter, Judy Kessinger; grandchildren, Victor Craig Kessinger & Kevin Loftis; and brother, Jr. Pauley.

Service will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, July 13th at Curry Funeral Home with Pastors Richard McCallister and Dwight McClure officiating. Burial will be in Lively Cemetery, Sod. Friends may call from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.

 

Forest B. (Frosty) Priestley, 76, of Alum Creek died Saturday, June 3, 2006 at Quarry Manor Personal Care Home, Charleston after a long illness.

He was a retired construction worker in the coal mines. He was a member of UMWA.
He was a Korean War veteran.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilburn C. “Pop” & Alberta Priestley.

Robert S. Milne

Robert S. Milne, 65, of Scott Depot, WV was called home on Sunday, May 28, 2006 after an extended illness.

He was born in Rochester, NY to his late parents, Esther and Scott Milne and was also preceded in death by his first wife, Marjorie.

He was a retired department manager with Eastman Kodak Co., in New York with 32 years’ service. He founded the Charleston Area Amputee Support Group in July 2003. He was a member of Teays Valley Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his wife, Bethel; children and spouses, Tyler (Toni) Milne, Troy (Jackie) Milne, Marlene (Jeri) Pickett, Terri (Rob) Dickerson, Cheryl Scites, and Greg (Kim) Snodgrass; brothers and spouses, Rick (Shirley) Milne, George ( Martha) Milne; grandchildren, Jeremy, Jerrod, Josh, Tate, Allison, Carli, Madison, Reagan, Joy, Nathaniel, Jessica and Tobias; many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Services will be 3:00 PM Wednesday, May 31, 2006 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, with Pastor George Bendall officiating. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery , McCorkle. Friends may call 1 hour prior to service at the funeral home.

Bob was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He will be greatly missed.
