Carol Sue Mynes 66, of Sod passed away Friday May 4, 2007 at CAMC General after a long illness.

She is survived by her husband: Ernest; Daughter: Sharon Mynes of Charleston; Sister: Mary Shoebridge of Melvindale Michigan; and Brother: Robert Paul of Georgiana, Alabama.

Services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at the Curry Funeral Home Chapel 2097 Childress Road with Elder Harold Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Hayzlett Cemetery at Garretts Bend. Friends may call from 7 to 9 P.M. Monday at the funeral home.

Larry Shelton Henson

Larry Shelton Henson, 62, of Hurricane, went home to be with God on May 1, 2007.  He was born November 8, 1944 to the late Clifford Roosevelt and Harriete Lorraine Good Henson. He was a self employed carpenter who loved wood working and was a graduate of St. Albans High School.

He is survived by his daughters; Patty Hamilton of Charleston, Sherry Ledford of Monroe, Ohio, Amber Henson of Charleston and son; Cliff Henson of St. Albans. Brothers; Dr. Samuel Henson and Jerry Henson of West Virginia, Sisters; Catherine Freeman of Virginia and Jacquelyn Barker of Ohio and Grandchildren; Jonathon Hamilton, Jeremy Hamilton, Ashley Ledford, Emilee Ledford and Heidi Ledford.  Left behind a special friend, Larry Garrett of Hurricane.  Memorial service will be 8:00 PM Thursday, May 3, at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road Alum Creek with Rev. Robert S. Leadman officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 7 to 8 PM at the funeral home.

Ella Mae Withrow McCallister, 69, of South Charleston went home in the loving arms of the Lord on Saturday, April 21, 2007 at home after an extended illness.  She attended Southwest Church of God and was preceded in death by her parents, Elias and Anne Withrow; brothers George, Bill, Ted and Abner Withrow; and grandson Jamie McCallister.

She is survived by her husband, James McCallister; sons and there wives, James, Jr. And Cheryl McCallister of Elkview ; Rockie and Lois McCallister of Greenwood, South Carolina; daughter and her husband, Sheri and Steven Skidmore of St. Albans; sisters Mildred Lockhart of Muskegon, Michigan; and Lulabel Sharp of Charleston and Five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday April 24, at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastors Calvin McCallister and Keith Hudson officiating. Burial will be held at the Graceland Memorial Park So. Charleston. Friends may call from 7 to 9 PM Monday at the funeral home.

Mary “Billie” Williams, 82, of Davis Creek went home to the Lord, Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at Cabell- Huntington Hospital after a short illness.  She was preceded in death by her husband Arch Denver Williams, was a Christian and attended the Bible Center Church, Charleston.  Billie was a wonderful and loving mother, grandmother and friend that will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her daughter; Sharon (Vernon) Smith of Teays Valley, sons; Paul (Simona) Williams of Houston, Texas, and Gary (Karen) Williams of Cross Lanes; 4 Grandchildren; Rebecca (Josh) Meek, Andrew and Laura Williams, and Danielle (Elan) Saadia and 4 Great Grandchildren; Katie and Samantha Meek, Ethan and Gabriella Saadia.

Services will be held 11:00 PM Saturday, April 21, at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, with Pastor Shawn Thornton officiating. Burial will be held at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston. Friends may call from 7 to 9 PM Friday at the funeral home.

Tammy Lee Estep

Tammy Lee Estep, 44, of St. Albans, died Tuesday, April 17, 2007 after a short illness.  She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Lee Estep and sister, Teresa Ann Estep.  She is survived by her father, Gene Austin Estep.

Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, April 20, at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will be held in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Friends may call on Friday one hour prior to the services.

Steven Loftus

Steven Loftus, 56, of Sumerco, died Sunday, April 15, 2007 at home after a long illness.  He is survived by his son, Michael Loftus; mother and step-father, Mable and Hassel Woodrum; father, Buster McCormick; ex-wife, Sharon; step-son, Steven Clay; brother, Larry McCormick; half – brother, Rick McCormick and half-sister, Vicki Titcher; two grandchildren, Megan Nicole and Michael Jr.

Doris Jean Parsons

Doris Jean Parsons, 77, of Alum Creek died Monday, April 9, 2007 at Thomas Memorial Hospital after a long illness.  She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Dunbar Chapter #133. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Dean Parsons.  She is survived by: 1 Son: Richard (Sharon) Parsons of South Charleston; 1 Daughter: Anita Parsons of Hernando, FL; 1 Sister: Lois Mawson of Leon; 3 Grandchildren: Rachel Carpenter, Melissa Abbott & Corey Parsons, and 1 Great Granddaughter: Chelsea Abbott 

Service will be 11:00 am Thursday, April 12, 2007 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Entombment will be in Graceland Memorial Park Mausoleum, South Charleston. Friends may call Wednesday from 7 to 9 pm at the funeral home.

 

Carl “Shug” Mooney

Carl “Shug” Mooney 77 of So Charleston, passed away Saturday, April 7, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, in Roanoke, Va., after a short illness.

Born February 22, 1930, in Olcott, Shug was a former employee of Purity Bakery and the Charleston Civic Center. He was retired from Kanawha Services and was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church in Alum Creek. Shug has been reunited with his beloved wife of 39 years, Beulah; parents, Walter & Elizabeth Clark Mooney; brothers, Walter Jr., and Harold Clark and sister Bessie Caruthers.

Left to mourn his passing are daughters Cheryl Counts of Charleston; Tammy Hunt of So Charleston; sons, Gary Lilly of Hurricane; Larry Lilly of Sissonville; three brothers, Jack of Charleston; Buck of Liberty; Howard of Ridgeview; sister-in-law Eulah Fay Duncan; brother-in-law, Frank Lilly; nine grandchildren, Christina and Christopher Counts; Amanda & Jacob Hunt; Jennifer & Michael Lilly; Gary Lilly ll; Angela Hedrick & Carrie Cummings; five great-grandchildren, Kailey, Gregory, Nicholas, Ryan and D.J.; best friend Martha Lilly and many other family members and friends.

He will be sadly missed by all.  Services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at Curry Funeral Home Chapel in Alum Creek with Pastor Dwight McClure officiating. He will be laid to rest at Graceland Memorial Park at So Charleston. Friends may call on Tuesday from 6 to 9 PM at the funeral home.

Toy Lee Turley

Toy Lee Turley, 66, of Alum Creek, passed away Friday April 6, 2007 at home after a short battle with cancer.  He was a son of the late Andrew and Susan Turley and was also preceded in death by his wife Wilda Lee Wheeler Turley and sister Louise Elkins.  He was a member of the UMWA District 17 Local 1582 for 30 years and was a Christian.

He is survived by: Sons: Jeff (Sherry) Turley and Scott (Tara) Turley all of Alum Creek; 15 year companion and very good friend, Karen;  3 sisters: Elsie (Ray) Pauley and Dixie Kidd all of Alum Creek; Margaret Jackson of Dunbar and 5 Grandchildren: Bethany Turley of Ashland, Kentucky; Kelsey and Madison Turley of Winfield; Savannah and Kaylee Turley of Alum Creek.

Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will be at the Forks of Coal Cemetery Alum Creek. Friends may call from 6 to 8 pm Monday at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank everyone who helped in so many ways, and a special thanks to Hospice for all there great care. An extra special thanks to Teresa Anderson who has shown so much love and been his care-giver through all his illness.

Jack Richard Davis

Jack Richard Davis, 71, of Garretts Bend, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, March 31, 2007 at home, after a courageous battle with cancer.  He retired from Union Carbide after 32 years of loyal service, as a pipefitter. He was a US Marine Veteran and a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph “Jodie” and Delphia Davis, son Randy Joe Davis and three brothers and a sister.

He is survived by: his wife of 45 years, Linda Kay Spurlock Davis; Son: SG Jack Richard Davis II of Midlothian, Virginia; Daughters and son-in-laws: Ronda Lorraine and Mitchell Pereira of Midlothian, Virginia; Tammy Jo and Efrem Hawkins of Southern CA.

Sisters: Margie Stover of King, North Carolina; Janet Paul of Georgiana, Alabama; and5 Grandsons and 1 granddaughter.

Services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday April 3, at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Jackie Miller officiating. Burial will be at the Paul Cemetery at Garretts Bend.  Friends may call from 6 to 8 PM Monday at the funeral home.  The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Hospice Care 1143 Dunbar Ave. Dunbar, WV 25064.
