John W. Gillispie, 55, of Alum Creek, died Saturday, November 24, 2007 at home.  He was a truck driver.

He is survived by his wife, Teresa; Daughter: Lisa Gillispie; 3 Sons: Johnny Gillispie II, Jason Gillipsie and Brian Gillispie; 3 grandchildren: Kayden, Alexis, and Jacoby; and 4 brothers: Roger, David, Marvin and Gary Gillispie and Sister: Regina Barker.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 28, 2007 at the Emmons Free Will Baptist Church with Pastor Robert McCallister officiating. Burial will be held in the Gillispie Family Cemetery, Emmons. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the church.  Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, is in care of the arrangements.

Rondal Williams

Rondal Williams, 78, of Alum Creek went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 20, 2007 at home surrounded by family & friends after a short illness. 

He was a retired coal miner and attended Alum Creek Independent Missionary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace & Grace Williams, brother, Stanley Williams and sister, Arlene Harrison.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Patricia; Sons: Eric & David both of Alum Creek; Todd of Hurricane; Brother: Carl Williams of Chelyan; Sisters: Melva Hudson of St Albans; Evelyn Jackson, Gloria Dodd & Louise Curry all of Alum Creek; 8 Grandchildren, 8 Great grandchildren, and a host of friends.

Services will be 1:00 PM on Saturday, Nov 24, 2007 at the Curry Funeral Home Chapel 2097 Childress Rd., Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Memorial Park at So Charleston,. Friends may call from 6 to 8 PM on Friday at the funeral home.

Johnnie Thompson

Johnnie Thompson, 54, of Sod, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, November 19, 2007 at home after a short illness.  He was preceded in death by his half brother, Jimmy Dunlap.  He was a member of Local Laborers Union #1353 for 19 years, was an employee of Hayslett Construction Co. and he was a devoted husband, dad and papaw.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Pam; two daughters, Tracy Bailey of Alum Creek and Kristy Thompson of Sod; two grandsons, Jarrett and Dakota; mother, Vennie Holstein of Alum Creek; twin brother, Ronnie Thompson of Sod; sister, Dottie “Tootsie” Dunlap of Sod; and a host of friends.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 21, 2007 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastors Frank Chapman and Richard McCallister officiating. Burial will be held in Lively Cemetery, Sod. Friends may call on Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Betty Marie Fields Lupson

Betty Marie Fields Lupson, 78, of Charleston, passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at Golden Living Nursing Home in Glasgow after a long illness.  She was a lifelong resident of Kanawha County and a homemaker who dedicated her life to her family. She was preceded in death by her son, Roger and infant daughter, Diana.

Betty is survived by her Husband of 59 years Arthur; 3 Daughters:  Jean and husband Ray Swach, Donna Harper, and Brenda and husband Tim Cogar all of Charleston;  4 Sons:  Richard and wife, Michelle Lupson of Bridgeton, New Jersey; Steve and wife Judy Lupson, Daniel and wife Ricki Lupson and Timothy and wife Dreama Lupson all of Charleston;  1 Brother: Samuel Fields of Jacksonville, North Carolina; 2 Sisters: Regina O’Brien and Mildred Hackney both of Charleston; 27 Grandchildren and 12 Great Grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Saturday, November 17, at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road Alum Creek with Rev. Wayne Cogar Sr. officiating. Burial will be at the Forks of Coal Memorial Park at Alum Creek. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Friday at the funeral home.

Calvin E. “Cub” Bragg

Calvin E. “Cub” Bragg, 74, of Alum Creek died Sunday, November 11, 2007 at home after a short illness.  He was a retired construction worker and a Korean War Veteran.

Calvin is survived by his 3 Daughters; Betty Manning of Michigan, Sandy Turley of Branchland, Donna Bragg Wilson of South Charleston; 2 Sons: Calvin Bragg, Jr., of Florida, Greg Bragg of Arizona, 3 Sisters: Maxine Neal of Sod, Sylvia Cloke of Georgia, Charlotte Bragg of Branchland,  3 Brothers: Alan Bragg of Florida, Carl Bragg of Julian, Ted Bragg of Sod, 9 Grandchildren and 1 Great grandchild.

Service will be 2 PM Wednesday at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will be at Lively Cemetery, Sod. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers family request donations toward burial expenses.

Irene Pauley, 81, of Alkol went home to be with the Lord Thursday, November 8, 2007 at CAMC General Division after a short illness.  She was a member of First Baptist Church at Woodville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Maxie Pauley; parents: Herbert & Arzona Price; brother: Denzil Price and sister, Alice.

She is survived by: 4 Daughters: Linda Bode of Purcellville, VA; Helen (Steve) Elkins of Diamond, OH; Anna Ruth (Steven) Martel of Hendersonville, TN; Rosemary Pauley of Woodville; Son: Herbie of Woodville; 4 Sisters: Dot Price, Arlene Barrickman, Marie Vickers, Pearl Ann Byrd; 4 Brothers: Herbert, Curtis, Hassell & Gene Price; 5 Grandchildren and 4 Great grandchildren.

Service will be 2:00 pm Sunday, November 11, 2007 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, with Pastors Auther Hensley & Dwight McClure officiating. Burial will be in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call 1 hour prior to the service.

Hugh Stan McKean, Jr.

Hugh Stan McKean, Jr., 70, of St. Albans, went hom to be with the Lord Tuesday, November 6, 2007 at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston, after a long illness.  He was employed by Welding, Inc., with 25 years service. He served for 8 years in the US Air force as an Air Policeman, Sentry Dog Handler and was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church, South Charleston.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Hugh & Mary McKean and brother, Dallas Rae McKean. He is survived by: wife of 40 years, Deanna; Son: Dallas Ray McKean of St. Albans; Daughter: Tresa Kay McKean of Delaware, OH; Step-daughter: Patricia Bryant of Charlestown, IN; 2 Sisters: Sandy Gerber of CA and ; Alice Blan of MI; and 3 Grandchildren: Travis Lee and Jessica Maria of IN and Belinda Russell of Delaware, OH

Services will be 1:00 PM Saturday, November 10, 2007 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, with Pastor Dwight McClure officiating. James Tolliver Pauley

James Tollliver Pauley, 88, of Alum Creek, departed this life on Thursday, November 1, 2007 at St. Francis Hospital, Charleston, surrounded by his loving family.  He was born May 8, 1919 and was a son of the late, John Walton and Louvenia Pauley. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, John and Herb and sisters, Fancy, Goldie and Ruth.

James retired from Berry Hills Country Club with 32 years of service and he served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.  He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He was deeply loved by his family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Esther Pauley; daughters, Anna Shultz and husband, Harold of South Charleston and Elma Smith and husband, Terry of Alum Creek; seven grandchildren, Gina Shultz, Lori Cox, Dale Harper, Sherry Perry, Alex Smith, T.J. Smith and Casey Smith; 11 great grandchildren.

The family expresses its heartfelt appreciation for the special care provided by CNA’s and all the staff at SunBridge Nursing Home, including, John Mullens, Mary Motley, Carla Bradbury, Hazel, Carissa and Doreen Motley, as well as the PCU Unit at St. Francis Hospital. Also, a special thank you to John Sloan for his kindness and friendship to our family and for always being there for James. A special thank you also goes to Heather Cox, a great granddaughter.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 4, 2007 at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Rev. John Chandler officiating. Burial will be held in the Fox Hill Cemetery, South Charleston. Friends may call on Sunday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1111 E Lee Street, Charleston, WV 25301.

James P. Harrison

James P. Harrison, 85, of Alum Creek went home to be with the Lord Friday, October 26, 2007 at home after a long illness.  He was a retired coal miner with Peabody Coal and a WWII Army Veteran. He was a member of Benny Padilla VFW Post 4768 at Alum Creek.

He is survived by: 3 Sons: James “Pete” Harrison of FL; Richard Harrison of Alum Creek and Brett Harrison of Poca; 5 Daughters: Mona Taylor, Arletta Anderson, Deloria McCormick all of Alum Creek; Genevia DeBord of Parkersburg, Dewanna Flowers of Alum Creek; 17 Grandchildren and 15  Great Grandchildren. 

Service will be 2:00 pm Monday, October 29, 2007 at Curry Funeral Home Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will be in Brounland Cemetery with military graveside rites by Benny Padilla VFW Post 4768. Friends may call from 7 to 9 Sunday at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek.
