Lillian Mae Smith, 94, of So. Charleston, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, August 22, 2008 at Hubbard Hospice House Charleston after a long illness.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bill Smith.

She was a homemaker and seamstress, and a member of the Springhill Baptist Church, So. Charleston.

She is survived by her son: William Wray Smith and his wife Delores of So. Charleston;

1 Sister: Nina McKenzie of Princeton;

3 Grandchildren: Billy Wray Smith and his wife Michelle; Cheryl Elswick and her husband Clinton; and Karen Smith;

4 Great Grandchildren: Caleb, Courtney, Cara and Cami;

Services will be 1:00 PM Monday, August 25, at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Mark Patton and Rev. Roger Hartwell officiating. Burial will be at Graceland Memorial Park So. Charleston.  Family and friends will gather from 3 to 5 PM Sunday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gideons International, P.O. Box 731, St. Albans, WV 25177.

Dennis A. Highlander

Dennis A. Highlander, 71, of Charleston went home to be with the Lord Thursday, August 21, 2008 after a long illness.

He was a retired coal miner and an avid hunter and fisherman.

He is survived by:

Grandsons: Zachary and Chase Highlander of Charleston

Niece: Sheila Richmond of Alderson, WV

Service will be 1:00 pm Saturday, August 23, 2008 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Rev. Pete Thompson officiating.  Burial will be in Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston.  Friends and family may call from 6 to 8 pm Friday at the funeral home.

Charles Edward Settle, Jr.

Charles Edward Settle, Jr., 80, of Yawkey went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, August 19, 2008 after a long illness.

Charles was born August 3, 1928 to the late Charles and Genela Settle.  He was a member of Beech Grove Baptist Church and a retiree of Union Carbide with 42 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Settle and sister, Exlee Gillenwater.

Charles is survived by his loving family

Daughter & son-in-law: Kristi and Travis Long

Grandchildren: Michelle, Kirsten and Katie

Great Grandchildren: Hannah and Hayden

Private graveside services will be held at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey with

Pastors Richard McCallister and Oshel Bell officiating.  Friends and family may call Thursday, August 21 from 12 to 2 PM at Sumerco Church of God.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Hospice of Huntington, 3100 Staunton Road, Huntington, WV 25702.  May Charles always be remembered for his love and devotion to his family.

William Fenten Kirk, 78, of South Charleston went home to be with the Lord Sunday, August 17, 2008 at CAMC Memorial Division after a long illness.

He was retired from General Motors Corp. In Pontiac, MI.  He attended  Olcott Community Church.

2 Step-children: Misty Thomas & Michael Hitchcock

3 Brothers: Junior, Clarence & Karel Kirk

Service will be 2:00 pm Friday, August 22, 2008 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Jimmy Webb officiating.  Burial will be in Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston.  Friends and Family may gather Thursday from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Charles Ivan “Chuck” Parsons, 51, of South Charleston, passed away suddenly at his home on Sunday, August 17, 2008.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth “Gay” Parsons.

He was retired from West Virginia American Water Company and he attended Pine Grove Baptist Church.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 20, 2008, at  Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastors Randall “Butch” Brogan and David Mitchell officiating.  Burial will be held in Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston.  Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mary E. Gentry

Mary E. Gentry, 81, of South Charleston, died August 16, 2008 at Teays Valley Center, Hurricane, West Virginia.

She was a retired Certified Public Accountant, a member of Christ Church of the United Methodist, Charleston; the Benson Sunday School Class of  the  United Methodist Women and for many years she was co-ordinator of the Christ Church prayer chain.

She is survived by three sisters, Elizabeth Geddis of Whitesboro, Texas, Dorothy Kyle of The Colony, Texas and Elsie Copley, Huntington.

There will be no services.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations to Christ Church United Methodist or Marshall University Varsity Foundation.

Curry Funeral Home,  Alum Creek was in charge of arrangements.

Family services will be held at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at the Winfree’s home in Campbells Creek, WV.

A private service will be held in Pocahontas county at a later date.

Doris Jean (Pauley) Nicholas, 71 of Fort McCoy, Florida, formerly of Sod, WV went home to be with the Lord Thursday, August 14, 2008 after a short illness.

She was a homemaker and a Christian who loved serving her Lord. Doris was preceded in death by her first husband, Hassell M. Pauley, her parents and 6 brothers.

She is survived by:

Son: Gene Pauley & wife, Robin

Daughter: Sue Graley and husband,  Dwight

6 step children: Gene ll, Ronald, Danny, Teresa, Naomi & Mark.

Services will be 3:00 PM on Monday, August 18, 2008 at the McCorkle Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Russell Wright and Chad Pauley officiating.  Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery at McCorkle.  Friends will gather 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
