Thomas R. Stevens, Sr., 79, of Alum Creek, went home to meet the Lord on Friday, March 16, 2012 at Hospice West, South Charleston, WV after a short illness.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Jean Hill Stevens, daughter, Linda Sheryl Stevens Clark; parents, William Wirt and Daisy Dunlap Stevens; brothers, Marion, John & Waldo Stevens; sister, Katherine Stevens Schneider Green and long time friend Benny Huffman.

He attended Lincoln County schools; he was a 67 year member and former trustee of Cobbs Creek Missionary Baptist Church where he loved to sing in the choir and also served as a Sunday School teacher. The church is located at Sod, and was named after his grandfather the Rev. Samuel O’Dell Dunlap . He was a 52 year member of Heat & Frost Insulators Local #80, Winfield, WV with the last 12 years employed by A&I Company, So. Charleston, retiring in late 1970’s. Then, with his wife, Lois, owned and operated Sod Exxon Hardware, Tom’s Car Wash and, with son, Tom Stevens, Jr., Stevens Funeral Home, Madison until 2005. He was a 50 year member of the Griffithsville Masonic Lodge #27 AF&AM.

Left to cherish his memory, are his wife, Helen Barrett Smith Stevens; daughters, Beverly (Dale) Pauley, Gail (Randy) Curry and Debbie (David) Bailey; son, T.R. Stevens, Jr. son-in-law, Tommy Clark; stepchildren, Philip (Nancy) Smith and Richard (Kim) Smith; sister, Betty Brumfield, brother, Robert (Vicki) Stevens; grandchildren, Corey (Dawn) Clark, Kristin (Chris) Miller, Heath (Kelly Bright) Curry, Haley (David) Miles, Leslie (Clyde) McKnight, Rockne (Holly Hill) Stevens, Olivia (Tim) Beck , Joey (Jennifer) Bailey and Adam Bailey; step-grandchildren, Heather (Corey) Richardson, Haley and Maggie Smith; great grandchildren, Ian, McKenley, Jakob, Noelle, Gavin, Vivian, Sarah, Jacob, Colt, and Kylie Joy; step-great grandchildren, Tucker and Harper and very special friend, Ralph Caudill; and many special nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family and friends.

Service will be 2:00pm Monday, March 19, at Cobbs Creek Missionary Baptist Church at Sod with Pastors Butch Leadman and Phil Suiter officiating. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 6 P.M. Sunday, March 18, at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Charles Wright, 80, of  Port Ritchie, Florida, formerly of St. Albans, passed away Sunday, March 16, 2008.

He was retired from Union Carbide with 37 years of service; a member of Harvest Baptist Church, FL; and attended Maranatha Church in St. Albans; and also a member of the NRA.

He is survived by his wife, Billie; sons, Chris Wright of Marietta, GA and Dick Hanson of South Charleston; daughters, Susan Wright of Concord, NC and Karen White of Elkins, WV; sisters, Eloise Movius of Waterford, MI and Anne Garalaglia of Carmichael, CA; eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.

Service will be 1:00 pm Saturday, March 22, 2008 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating.  Entombment will  be in Graceland Memorial Park Mausoleum, South Charleston.  Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Rosa L. (Susie) Williams, 52 of Ashford went home to be with the Lord Wednesday March 14, 2012 at Marmet Center after a long illness.

She was a homemaker and attended the Emmons Church of God.

Susie is survived by her husband of 33 years Ricky, son Barry R. Williams II, daughter Ida Faye Withrow, brother Orville Holstein and three grandchildren.

Service will be 2:00 pm Saturday March 17 at Rumble Church of God with Pastors Cleve Daugherty and Mike Graley officiating. Burial will follow at Holstein Family Cemetery at Dartmont. Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service at the church.

Diana Mae Cogar, 63 of Charleston was met at the Pearly Gates by her husband of 43 years Rev. Robert W. Cogar, Sr. and walked hand in hand to be with our Lord on Saturday, March 10, 2012 after a long illness.

Diana is survived by her children, Robert Jr. (Tammy) Cogar, Tim (Brenda) Cogar, and Tammy (Tony) Keefer all of Charleston, mother, Mary Proctor of Charleston, brothers, Tom, Lester, Sr. and Dean Vance, sister Marie Mullins, 7 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren who affectionately knew their mamaw as “Cat Woman”. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Service will be 8:00 PM Thursday March 15, 2012 at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Rev Billy Burdette officiating.

Family and friends will gather from 6pm to service time at 8pm at the funeral home.

On Wednesday, March 7, 2012, our precious child, Blake Austin Dunlap, was carried in the arms of angels home to his Heavenly Father.

He was a student at Lincoln County High School.

Through our tears and heartbreak, we remember his beautiful smile and dancing hazel eyes.

Blake was an avid motorcyclist, whom had mastered many trick stunts at a very early age. Often he used these skills, with a sheepish grin, to bring shrieks of concern from his beloved mamaw and aunts.

He was a true outdoorsman, who loved riding his four wheeler in Ivy Branch, camping, hunting and fishing with his papaw and best friends Elijah, Katy and cousin, Katlyn. He also loved to play the guitar and listen to music with his mom. Those who were blessed to share his life, knew him as kind and loving, willing to help anyone in need or share a warm embrace.

Blake was baptized at McCorkle Freewill Baptist Church. He loved God and proclaimed on his Facebook page that Jesus Christ inspired him most. His favorite verse was Proverbs 3:5, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not on thine own understanding.” In his short life of sixteen years, he accomplished what most strive many years for. Like Jesus commanded, he loved unconditionally.

He was a loving son to Leslie Dunlap of Sod and Darrin Tabor of South Charleston. A wonderful big brother to Addison Crowley of Logan and Austin Tabor of Sissonville. He was a light in the lives of his grandparents, John and Judy Dunlap of Sod, Sandy and Terry Ferrell of Madison and Ralph and Nancy Tabor of Foster. His many aunts and uncles adored him and his many cousins cherished him. He will be so missed by all his friends, including special friend, Kristi Lacy.

Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Monday, March 12, at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will follow in Lively Cemetery. Family and friends will gather Sunday from 4 to 6 pm at the funeral home.

Wilma Lee Bradshaw, 75, of Garretts Bend went home to the Lord Tuesday, March 6, 2012 after a long illness.

She was a member of the Alum Creek Church of Christ.

Wilma was the daughter of the late Sim Carson and Celeste (Runyan) Belcher. She was also preceded in death by daughter, Jane Ann Curry; granddaughter, Michelle Midkiff, grandson, Corey Bradshaw; brothers, Boyd Wilson, James Edward, Leo Herbert (Bill), Donald Arthur and Jesse Delmar Belcher.

She is survived by her husband, Robert (Bob) Bradshaw; two daughters, Bronda (Rick) Adkins of St. Petersburg, FL and Janet Lea Bradshaw of Orlando, FL; son, Mark (Gail) Midkiff of St. Albans, eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren; three sisters, Barbara Ruby and Doris (Roger) Escue of Garretts Bend and Helen (Marvin) McClure of Yawkey.

Funeral sevice will be 1:00 pm Friday, March 9, 2012 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Ministers Joseph Watts, Louie Watts and Richard Runyan officiating. Evelyn Bonnette Hinton, 49 of Scott Depot passed away Friday March 2, 2012 at Teays Valley Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her son Josh Holtsclaw and step-father Curtis Alford.

She was a former employee of Alford Swimming Pools.

She is survived by her husband Bill, sons Casey(Mickelle Hill) Holtsclaw, Christopher (Beth) Holtsclaw, Pete (Missy) Hinton, Jim (Mitsy) Hinton, formerdaughter in law Jennifer Jones, father and step-mother Jerry and Cathy Wooten, mother Bonnie Alford, brother Chris (Barb) Wooten, sisters Judy (Roger) Bryant, Teresa (Tommy) Malone, grandchildren Zoei, Kirsten, Jozi, Chloe, Heaven, Rachael, Julia, Matthew, Kaylee and Krista, nieces and nephews Christina, Courtney, and Paul David and very close friend Paula Gibson.

Rita Sharon Woodall, 68, of Hurricane went home to be with the Lord Thursday, March 1, 2012.

She was first and foremost a mother, grandmother and homemaker; a 1961 graduate of Duval, and member of Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary. She was a member of Left Fork Missionary Baptist Church. Larry and Rita traveled to Okeechobee, Florida during the winter months and also loved spending time at the family farm in Lincoln County.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wallace and Edith Carper Dotson; and sister, Betty Stump.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Larry; son, Larry Stephen Woodall of Culloden; daughter Cindy Tucker of Hurricane; grandsons, Stephen Woodall of Charlotte, NC,and Sebastian Tucker of Hurricane; sisters, Phyllis Garnes of Alum Creek, Patricia Anderson of New Hampshire, Paula Hackworth and Bonita Adkins both of Cross Lanes.

She will also be sadly missed by many other family members and friends.

Funeral service will be 3:00 pm Sunday, March 4, 2012 at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Randell Kinder officiating. Burial will follow in Orchard Hills Memory Gardens, Yawkey. Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service.

Gladys M. (Carper) Haid, 95 of Charleston went home to be with the Lord Tuesday February 28, 2012 at Marmet Center after a long illness.

She was preceded in death by her parents Elbert and Maude Carper, husband Clarence W. Haid and sisters Edith Dotson and Pauline Holstein, all originally from Lincoln County.

Gladys was a retired hairdresser from Osbornes Beauty Salon in Charleston and formerly employed at Stone and Thomas Department Store in Charleston.

 She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Service will be 1:00 PM Monday March 5, at Curry Funeral Home 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek with Pastor Robert Leadman officiating. Burial will follow at Orchard Hills Memory Gardens Yawkey. Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service at the funeral home Monday.

Juanita Evelyn Spears, 66, of Nellis went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at Hubbard Hospice House after a long illness.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Spears, son Dewayne Spears, mother, Juanita Tye and brother, Mitt Tye.

She attended Rumble Community Baptist Church and for many years she served as a in-home care -giver.

Juanita is survived by her daughters Gail Shelton and Bethel Adkins both of Foster, Annette (Kit) Richardson of Nellis, son Lee (Dawn) Spears of Elkview, grandchildren Anthony Hager, Tia Shelton, Leah, Victoria, and Isaac Messer, Channing Richardson, great grandchildren Ali and Aleeah Simms, and Bryum Richardson, sisters Christine Crews of Hawaii and Jackie Means of Charleston.
